  1. he should fix it, but Bev makes a much better suit for next time... Tell him you want the big zipper like Bev puts on hers cause they don't blow out
  2. That's probably a thing of the past at most if not all airports in the US. nope, not at all, it was for a little while after the attacks, but it is available at every airport I've been to this year (and thats a fair number).
  3. I did this for a halloween party. as soon as people start arriving tell them to pick teams of 4 and one person can't drink yet. Then wait for an hour or so (or until people have started to drink a bit), and send them out on a scavanger hunt. I made a list of stuff worth different points. Basically I only had myself in mind and gave really high points for brining chicks back, with their underwear in hand... but I had a list of like 20 items and points, I gave prizes for 1,2 and 3 place (got the DZ to donate jumps and I used some gift certificates I got from work, wuffos could win a tandem). It added about 25 people to the party when all was said and done. it was fun.
  4. Whistler/Blackcomb is (are) the best ski area in North America (everything taken into account -- skiing, lodging, restraunts, nightlife, etc). Everything that is written about it is not an exageration. I thought it was all hype till I went there, wow.
  5. what are your requirements? i.e. price, distance, sales tax evasion, custom measurement, after sales service, etc. Most dealers have websites now, too, so you can email for prices, etc. IMO, there are many good ones out there. Sunshine factory, all the "squares", skykat, TSO-d, pier (under new ownership), the pro shop at the Ranch all come to mind. If you want to have the dealer measure you, pick one that's close (may not be a "major" dist.) if you want to save the sales tax percentage (which can add up if you have a big purchase), go with one out of state, IME shipping is about the same no matter where you go.
  6. so why do you think you would have "sunk in faster" under a smaller canopy. Glide being equal.
  7. yeah, what Lisa said. IME, the manufacturers will only offer a discount if they are sponsoring you in some sort of way. Remember, they are not staffed to handle regular retail sales, so by keeping the price point at the sticker price, it kind of drives people to the dealers (who can offer a discount if so inclined).
  8. IN addition to the other things mentioned, you will also need to consider canopy type... for instance a 7 cell packs smaller than a 9 cell, a x-braced packs like one size larger typically, an airlocked canopy will pack bigger also. so for instance if you are jumping a 170 spectre, a 150 9 cell of some variety may fit into that container without any worry (worry as in loop slack, etc) at all.
  9. Paintball is a blast, look in the yellow pages, there are probably fields around you. Best thing to do though is to get a bunch of friends to go. You can tell those that have paint experience though. be prepared for a lot of running, it's a workout.
  10. in addtion, the older Mirage's had velcro on the riser covers.

  12. where is skydiving "snopes" when you need it...
  13. check out australia..... I always thought it was unpopulated, but wow. it's interesting to see you can also find the major highways from the number of lights/towns along them (maybe they are all the mcdonalds/buger king in the US)
  14. ahhhh, but you were a great friend, she didn't appreciate it. you tried, and it sounded like you tried very hard,, that's what friends do. If she can't acept it, time to move on, you did what you could, be comfortable with that! you did well
  15. yes there are flights into Steamboat. buy a ticket to vail and you can ski the beaver too, IIRC.
  16. my neighbor in NY was a breeder for them, nice dogs, very protective. they used to patrol our little neighborhood. Fist time I saw their paw print in the snow I thought I had a bear around the house
  17. reminds me of a funny story... one time I was in there with shannon Pilcher, the fans are winding down, and he's doing head down on the mesh. then the air got to slow and he went through the mesh. very scary at that particular moment, but very funny once he was extracted without getting hurt. The look on his face was to much when it happened.
  18. not in the normal run of the mill, helping in and out, but if you are getting coaching, then I think it is a nice gesture.
  19. ya know what, just cause her kids can't use them, doesn't mean others can't. you did right, she didn't appreciate it, don't let that taint you. your generousity IS Christmas spirit, she didn't have to take it for you to have it. her loss, don't let it get you down.
  20. not to shabby, it's a very nice town/ski area. They have gotten absolutely dumped on, as in snow over your head, needing a snorkle skiing.
  21. while they may not charge, a gratuity would be in order, they really dont' get paid all that much.
  22. probably because the chest rings are a hinge point, trying to keep teh three rings level, especially if they are drawn in closer together. You don't see it as much cause I'm sure your chest strap is all the way out (I noticed the same thing when going to chest rings)
  23. well, there is a thought from one of the major rig manufacturers that the chest rings can put a shear load on the chest strap (across the web). The webbing is not as strong in that direction (by a long shot, but I don't know the numbers), but the webbing is very good in tension (with the web). I've never heard of the chest strap falling due to a pure shear load, but there's always a first time, right? BTW, I've got two -- one with and one without, I much preferr the one with, the chest rings are very comfortable.
  24. I did all the math at a cessna DZ for the DZO once... In my experience, the more succesful DZ's buy their own planes, it is getting to that point where they have to lease them, and may never get over the hump... typically planes are leased "dry" meaning no fuel included and go by the hour... some others, go by the number of loads and a set number of jumpers times a set rate ($13.00 rings a bell). If you are the owner of the plane, you have to figure: airframe maintenace Engine maintenance Avionics maintenance fuel depreciation office staff (some one has to pay them in manifest) advertising (yellow pages, fliers, radio, TV) grounds maintenance electricity there is way more to a jump ticket than just avgas.
  25. one thing to think about when choosing canopy colors that I think gets over looked some is the ability to see you from above. If your canopy blends into the surrounding terrain, and someone can't see you cause you blend in...... well, the outcome might be not so good.
