  1. I'm just going to pop in here real quick and see if I can't summarize what everyone's been saying (leaving out the party bashing). Halliburton charged the US gov an amount they agreed upon when they won the contract. Halliburton was awarded the contract quickly and without normal process for reasons of security and necessity. Halliburton won the US contract. Don't take that out on Halliburton. If you have issue, take that up with the bureaucrats awarding the contract. It has come to light that another business said they could do it for less. They were denied because they couldn't handle the demand. Halliburton's price was higher than normal because they have duties in Iraq that don't apply elsewhere. (obtaining trucks, providing security, etc) People are still raising Cheney, even though he doesn't make money based on Halliburton's position in the market anymore (just severance owed him from his time there) and he has no say in the contract awards process. So am I off in there anywhere? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  3. Dictionaries contain the words that I use. That's more than I can say for the residents on London last time I went through. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  4. That doesn't count. Spanglish is a whole other language. When I worked security consulting I dealt with construction sites/workers all the time. Some of them didn't know English or Spanish. Just Spanglish. The only reason I could understand them was a Colombian grandma. I may have dropped Spanish 101, but I can get along better in Miami or LA than any university grad. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  5. Well, there was this kind of vagrant packer at my last home dz, and we weren't always so friendly. Kind that love hate relationship - we love to hate each other. Every now and then we beat the piss out of each other, but nothing serious. We didn't like each other, but we were never angry in a fight, you know? Wanted to beat on each other, yes. Hurt each other, no. (at least for my part ) Ah, but then there's CRW. None of this sissy canopy stuff. I'm talking Combat RW. That got interesting. Someone got a hold of my hair once, but it was high and tight so it wasn't so bad. I think poking him in the eye convinced him to let go early. [edit] Short Answer: no, but usually yes witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  6. How many times must we make the point that there is a difference between $43 million in food aid and a $43 million grant? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  8. In response to "requests" I've seen, I just wanted to get it out there what the NRA is doing to promote safety and improve the human condition. 10. Washington post chimes in: page one page two McCain-Feingold Ruling Angers Activists on Both Left and Right By David Von Drehle Washington Post Staff Writer Thursday, December 11, 2003 It's not every day the National Rifle Association and the American Civil Liberties Union are outraged by the same Supreme Court decision. The two organizations are often used to represent opposite poles of American politics, the gun-toting right and the liberal left. But both groups hated yesterday's unexpectedly broad ruling by the court to uphold the major provisions of the McCain-Feingold campaign finance law. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  14. When they first came out they were MACs - Machine Automated Cashiers. I still here folk call them MAC machines. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  15. Maybe I just got "lucky" to come across live ones. They were definitely messy. Postscripts: one eventually died hours later in the hospital, the other used a towel in the bathroom about three weeks later. I'd say he qualifies as determined. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  16. So in the end, you would just have guns which are less reliable at providing self defense, and you would end up with even more people killed, due to gun malfunctions when they were needed to defend against criminal attack. As far as I'm concerned, if it's good enough for me, it's good enough for cops and the military. Once they adopt this "cutting edge" technology I'll look into it for myself. Cops have firearms for self defense, right? Well that's what mine are for as well. When they switch, I will. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  17. You sound like most anti-gun people I've talked to. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  18. Come on. I've got tell you if I wanted to off myself, I wouldn't choose a method requiring waivers, hours of training, and with so many safety catches to prevent death. Whoever suggested that is just as ignorant about skydiving as your average 'journalist.' edited to add: if I was going to go early, I think I'd like drowning. I read that you get a bit high and happy before you go, hypoxic. A lot less painful than some other ways to go. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  19. That one seems to focus on the "handguns are evil and must be vanquished" strain. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  20. I'd be interested in seeing break down including attempts, method, and success (what you meant I think). However, I have to tell you I've been to two scenes of attempt where the shooter/victim was still alive. It's no more a guarantee. It's a matter of determination versus "cry for help." witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  21. I don't know anyone who doesn't think suicides are a problem. But for the umpteenth time canuck, suicides will occur with or without firearms. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  22. Well, there is one solution. Let's wave our magic wand and make guns everywhere disappear. There would be no more firearms murders, firearms suicides, or firearms accidents. Of course, I'd wager homicide numbers would go up, suicides would be unaffected, but hey, at least they're not committed with those evil little firearms. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  23. Those are accidental death statistics, not total numbers. edit to add: your point still stands, but on John's numbers, not Capt P's. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  24. Haven't you been listening to the other side? It's all about spinning the numbers (unless someone's downright lying). It sounds better to say there were 33% more poisonings than firearm deaths. (It's true, 6% to 8%, but 33 sounds better than 2. ) witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  25. Thanks for the info. Not exactly what I'm looking for, but you're not Hertz! witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
