Article #5 http://www.portclintonnewsherald.com/news/stories/20040819/opinion/1078837.html It's called preemption. State legislatures do it when county or city governments are restricting rights that are not theirs to govern. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Article #4 http://www.lowcountrynow.com/stories/082004/LOCdeputyfuneral.shtml Anyone else reminded of the first account given by law enforcement of the shoot out on Ruby Ridge? Somehow I'm thinking the deceased's friends might not be the best choice to investiage his killer (note I said killer, not murderer). This one could really go either way. Was the deputy trespassing and shooting at someone else's pets? Or is the guy on trial so screwed up that he shot the first person he saw? All I know is the article says "Richland County deputies say evidence doesn't support his claim that Odam fired first and Rye has been charged with murder." It doesn't say that the deceased wasn't trespassing or that he didn't fire his weapon; only that his freinds say evidence doesn't agree with his killer. edit to insert url witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

It's what I do. I still laugh every time my mom talks about the first time I got sent to the principal's office in grade school, and got "the phone call home." My parents were actually proud of me. I don't remember it, but I'm told I got into a fight with an older kid because they wouldn't stop picking on a kid who was in my class. Of course, if I tried that now, I'd probably be expelled on some zero intelligence tolerance policy. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

This thread is for multiple articles because I don't want to start a dozen threads, but want to share what I've been reading. But these self-same people won't be bothered by the way Kerry verbally spit on every soldier, sailor, and marine in Vietnam? Either way, the man has an appalling voting record (when he bothers to show up at all) and I REALLY wish someone with the money for TV ads would focus on THAT. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

So a liqour store counts. You can't drink in a liqour store but you can buy alcohol. Do the stores hang a placard outside stating they make > 51% from alcohol so a someone knows not to enter with their gun? Are you being intentionally obtuse? He means any place making 51% of their revenue from serving alcohol. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

I though Jeffrey was very clear that he was talking about people going into a bar, but not drinking. Incorrect. In every state I've read laws for (some of us read, rather than accepting "common knowldge), without the keys in the ignition, an officer cannot make a good arrest for DWI or DUI (too many officers are satisfied with bad arrests over no arrests). witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Do a search for "Armed Citizen." It happens on a regular basis. (or you could search for statistics on Defensive Gun Uses, DGUs - Estimates range from 700,000 to a bit over three million every year) Just because it hasn't happened to us isn't a good reason to stop having the tools for an emergency. Have you ever been in an accident? If not, you should never bother wearing a seat belt ever again. Have you ever had a significant portion of your house catch fire? If not, you should never have a charged fire extinguisher ever again. Have you ever treated someone for a cut requiring stiches? If not, you should never have a first aid kit in your possesion ever again. Have you ever had to escape from a burning building? If not, you should never have a fire escape or window ladder ever again. Do I really have to go on? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

A gun does not "protect you." It allows a person to stop an attack upon them (hence the crime is already in progress, not prevented) from going completely out of their control. It let's you protect yourself when the law and police are unable to do so. See the attached pictures to udnerstand why we carry. ps - a gun may be more effective than a law in the bigger picture at preventing crime, for the simple reason that criminals are a lot more afraid of an armed victim than the law. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

If you want more penalties for law breeakers, then increase the penalties for breaking the law. There is no need to make otherwise legal actions illegal, when you want to discourage a different action. You realize you just contradicted yourself, right? You just said that a law can't stop someone, then you say it can. Besides, what does that have to do with our example? Are you going to make carage doors illegal, because drunks stumble with keys, so that might slow him down an make him think? (he's already sucha piece of shit he's going to beat his wife, why would a nother law on a piece of paper slow him down?) Really, when's the last time you saw a restraining order a person couldn't walk right through? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

PROVE IT !!! Don't you just love it when under qualified women are promoted becuase a company is afraid the next useless lawsuit will target them for sexism and sexual harassment? Don't you just love it when a woman can ruin a man's career with one accusation? Don't you just love it when.... oh, fuck off. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Well, outside of the fact that the idiot got elected to multiple elected positions. Specially the presidency. Do we really need to go into the makeup of political officals again? What is it? Oh yeah: poli-tics, meaning "many bloodsucking parasites." So you prefer Big Brother to the honor system? If someone doesn't cause a problem, and doesn't hurt anyone else, what's the problem? You're so worried about this secondary law that you give it more strength and want more power to enforce it than you give to the initial problem: MURDER. Honestly, please tell me you can see the difference bewteen enforcement and the honor system. Yes, I suggest that authorities leave you be, until you cause a problem. Once there is a problem, I'm not saying you should take the suspect's word that he hasn't been drinking. But why do you care before hand? If that is your position, then make a law against drunk carrying, not against being in bars. It's very simple. This says it all right here. You think you know people better than they know themselves. You are simply unable toaccept that a person can use his own judgment and self control. You think we need to be controlled for our own good. You are also creating a logical fallacy. You are comparing the population at large with a very small and very different subset. Do you realize how _________ that is? You want to put a visible flag on the people who are carrying concealed? Think that one through and try again. It's not good enough for me because I don't think people need to be kept on a leash. If you disagree, then we simply will not come to a consensus here. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

How exactly do you enforce a law before it's been broken? Please point out one single instance of a law that by virute of existing prevents some action from occuring. If only prohibitionists of all suits and sorts would realize that the nature of crime is to break the law. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

OK, run with me on this one. - Action A is against the law. - Everytime someone commits Acction A, they are arrested and prosecuted. - Very few people ever even consdier committing Action A. - However, politicians have decided there is too much Action A goin on. - Action Z is not illegal and doesn't hurt anyone and can help situations, but can be a common factor before Action A. - Politicians want to make Action Z illegal. - People who perfrom Action Z every day and cause no one any harm don't want Z made illegal. And there we are in this discussion. I could make drinking 'Action D,' but you get the idea. If something is already against the law, why would passing a making part of that action illegal change anything? THe person is alredy willing to commit a larger crime. Why would they care about a different aspect of the crime? And if they do, wouldn't that cause a migration to other means of committing the larger crime, rather than lowering the overall numbers of it? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

That's the problem. They shouldn't be concerned with verifiying whether or not every citizen is on his best behavior every second of every day. (that's called Big Brother) If someone breaks the law, THEN involve the authorities. What I'm saying is allow people todo as they will, and if they screw up, throw the book at them. Everything you can do wrong is already against the law, why do people want to make redundant laws and quadruple check everybody else? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
