If it ain't listed on the "Official" Beer rules then it don't count. Since I don't drink I am real careful to pay attention to the "Official" Beer rules so the drinkers can't try and get me to supply them for every imaginable "f---t" If it is on the list I have no problem buying.Of course the drinkers kinda hate it when i bring in O'Douls Which are by the way "Green Bottles!" Thing no one has mentioned. Skydiving is an emergency procedure! Some people way back when just happened to think it would be cool to make emergency exits from airplanes on a regular basis. I don't know about anyone else but the term emergency doesn't relate to safe in any way shape or form to me. Sucks it will be another week before I get to perfom another emergency procedure MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. Some things that will make you a better skydiver
catfishhunter replied to Ron's topic in Safety and Training
then you should get to that point...not start at that point. there is a guy at a DZ (that, for obvious reasons, will remain un-named). He's a really nice guy...he really is. but his delivery sometimes...*sigh* You wouldn't necessarily know that he's as nice as he is because he's so....abrupt? Harsh? He's military..and he takes his job very seriously, as well he should. But...just because you're new and inexperienced doesn't mean you're stupid. means you have yet to learn...and there's a big big difference between "yet to learn" and "stupid". Yet to learn simply means, "Fine..then TEACH ME!" This man has a *tendancy* to treat people like they are stupid....and that rubs some people the wrong way. For me..as a newbie...it made me both want to say, "go screw yourself!" and yet curl up into the fetal position and want to cry. I found him very intimidating and he made me feel very stupid. He could have done the same educating in a way that was less intimidating, less authoratative..and I would have been more receptive to it. This man is brilliant...he made a comment to me that he LOVES that nobody thinks of him as a "skyGod", but the fact is that he's as much of a SkyGod as anyone out there jumping....but sometimes his message delivery is such that it stings and you're too busy licking your wounds in the corner because he just verbally smacked you down to actually listen and want to hear what he has to say. If the drill-seargant routine is the only thing that some people will respond to..then it's understandable if you end up communicating to them in that manner. but for the rest of us...it's counter productive (and not real nice) to start off there. Funny thing about this is... YOU REMEBER HIM and WHAT he told you. Sounds like it worked to me. MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. Ummm Yes I do have an Idea. Battling depression and addiction ALL my life I do know. Having made 3 attempts, 2 of which truly have no rational explantion as to why I survived and after allot of counseling and recovery I still stand by my statement that suicide is a selfish act. Does not mean that the person isn't in true desperation to end their pain, but read that carefully. It is selfish. it is all about ending THEIR pain with no consideration towards anyone else. They do not think about the loved ones that will find them days or weeks later after shitting and pissing all over themselves, cleaning up the grey matter off the walls and ceilings, the horrendous smells that will never be forgotton etc.... So yes suicide is a selfish act, committed in desperation, but still a selfish act. I do not make these statements lightly nor wish to say this person or anyone else that has chosen to off themselves are bad horrible people . ( I do not veiw myself that way then or now) just that the act in and of itself is selfish. Godspeed Kat. Nothing anyone did here had any effect on the selfish decision this person made. Suicide is a selfish act. Not trying to be insensitive but it is. My condolences to those hurt by this person decision. My best friend took his life when i was 18 and have had several other friends in the past 19 years do the same. There was nothing anyone could have done to prevent any of them. They choose to "punish" the ones that they precieved to have hurt them in the most selfish way possible. Ending their lives. I know this because I have been there. I have attempted to off myself 3 times in my 37 years.and each time it was because i wanted those that had hurt me to hurt as bad as I thought I was hurting. Today I am in Recovery, I have a strong support group that I can share when my brain tries to kill me.If you have anyone you are worried about you might suggest they seek a support group but in the end you are powerless over the decisions of others and all you can do is pray for them and keep on breathing. If you feel that our leaders are wrong then step up and run for office. If people think and feel as you then you won't have any trouble getting into public office. It is real easy to sit back and bitch and moan about the hard decisions our elected leaders have to make, if it really matters to you step up and run for office MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. Another stupid question: first pack job
catfishhunter replied to kelel01's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You know where your cutaway handles are right? That was what the packers,DZO and my buddy said when I went to jump my first pack job. I jumped it on a hop-n-pop(first) so I wouldn't have to worry about it not opening for 9,000 feet. I pitched 3 seconds out the door. Was I ever relieved, but i sure was ready to fire red, silver! You have a perfectly good reserve that WILL open. Took me awhile to get comfortable with that fact but it is a fact. Your reserve is going to OPEN! So don't worry so much. Besides the extra bit of adreninline(sp) wondering if your pack job is gonna open is kinda nice MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. We must live life to the fullest EVERY DAY. Everything we do should have a greater purpose. -
Well I figured if it wasn't gonna open I didn't want to wonder for 9,000 feet! Another thing I did was double up on my coach jumps.(example) When I went to hand deploy I also knocked off my manuevers. Make each jump count and you will have your A in no time! I got my A card done in 20 jumps and I just got my B License yesterday! 62 jumps total now. MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. Talk with the folks at your DZ. Make each jump count! I packed my rig, jumped it, spotted the plane all on A HOP-N-POP. Got 3 things in one jump. Talk with your Instructors and other and just make each and every jump count. Also talk with the jump pilot, I am sure he will be more then happy to help you with spotting and all the requirements about the airport/plane stuff. Which he can sign off for you.One thing I learned is everyone is willing to help you but you have to let them know you need it! I'm not a skydiver. I make occasional skydives, but I really hang out at DZ.com because I feel that there is a lot of good information to be had here, that I can use to apply to my sport. Skydivers have already considered many of the issues we face, and sometimes the communication between the two sports is poor, so we end up re-inventing the wheel. I'd rather see somebody else's wheel first. Saying that this place ought to be for "skydivers only" would make as much sense as banning all skydivers from the BASE Board. I think I am here for the right reasons. But, sorry to ruin your "skydivers only" party by showing my face. I'm certainly glad that Sangiro doesn't share such a limited word view. isn't it strongly suggested that before you attempt base that you have 200 skydives ( or something like that?) in other words, you need to be a skydiver before you can become a base jumper? I have learned allot from reading your posts tom and I learned allot watching your accident on the discovery channel (impact survival) That was you right? All in all "your sport" base requires "our sport"skydiving as a pre-requiste. Why I am here. Knowledge. MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. Premature brake deployment on tru-lock toggles
catfishhunter replied to Blahr's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
hmmmmmm to lazy? Is that what packers think of people paying them? That they are to lazy?If I heard that from a packer I would find a different packer to give my $5 bucks to. I am not rich but I am not poor either and for me it is a win-win to pay the $5. but if packers think the way you stated then WTF am I doing kicking out 20-30 bucks a weekend to put jump money in their pockets? What makes a skydiver a skydiver? AKA be nice to the tandems
catfishhunter replied to Brian425's topic in The Bonfire
From first jump (Tandem) until jump seven I was a student. Once off student status, until I got my A Card stamped I was aspiring to become a Skidiver.Once I had that stamp I became a Skydiver! I saw it this way. Until I could go to any drop zone and show them my log book and my license etc then hop on a plane and jump the fuck out I wasn't truly a skydiver. Just aspiring to be one.
