who else hates being alone during the holidays?
catfishhunter replied to moodyskydiver's topic in The Bonfire
Your not alone. Being a divorced Dad and only being able to see my little girl http://www.foto2cd.com/Lindsey.htm 2 or three times a year ( Christmas and her birthday are never missed ) saddens me then add to it that I am still single after 4 years. So I feel ya girl. It does sound as if you have a good heart so i doubt you will be alone for long. ((((((((((((((Hugz))))))))))))) for ya! Life is amazing when we get out of its way and let it unfold on it's own. Hell 7 months ago I never thought I would be jumping out of airplanes let alone have a license that says I am qualified( stupid enough?) to do it! Besides I have learned in my 37 years that the more "shit" I walk through the better life gets once I reach the other side. Just wish this pile would end soon. Had one last sunday. exit at 4k 9 second delay pitched 3 or 4 seconds and nothing, was about to go red/silver then stood me up. Check my Skytronic and it said I only reached 90mph. It was also about 5 degress outside the plane so don't know if that had anything to do with it. I was open by 2500 so I had plenty of time to for emergency procedures if nesseccary. Was just real strange. MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. We must live life to the fullest EVERY DAY. Everything we do should have a greater purpose.

Skydiving Death vs. Alcohol Death.
catfishhunter replied to Kramer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The one thing I did not expect to find when I took up skydiving was the number of folks that where in recovery, and how many probably should be When I first started to jump and begun to learn the beer rules and "heard" of the drop zone parties and such I was worried that my being a recovering addict might allienate me in some way. As I shared some of my skydiving experiances with my freinds and "family" in recovery they where worried about the enviroment I was subjecting myself to. Being the person I am it wasn't long before everyone at the dropzone knew I was an addict , having a BIG NA tattoo on my arm probably gave it away It wasn't long before all the others in recovery began to introducve themselves to me. I have also had the opprotunity to share my story with others who think they might have a problem and let them know there is a way out and they are not alone. Skydiving by it's very nature is a draw for those with addictive personallity's. So it shouldn't have been a surprise how many skydivers are in recovery. I can say knowing I was with other members of my "family" sure made it easier to feel part of my new skydiving family! I have no issue with those that can have a beer or two and drink responsiblly. I just can't do it. I'm allergic to Alcohol, I break out in cops every time Blue Skies! MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. Anyone know where I can find some instructions for the Skytronic Pro. I bought one off eBay but did not get any instructions. I tried the parasportitalia.com website but cannot be found. The rules also make an exception for those of us that don't drink ( in recovery ). You may purchase the beverage of your choice. I supply the DZ with Root Beer floats and/or Non-Alchoholic (Sharps,O'Douls,ST. Paulie NA etc ) for those of us that still like a cold beer but have no desire to lose our clean time

Why did you start skydiving/ BASE jumping?
catfishhunter replied to lkolkin's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I started probably for the same reason I thought I could fly a 2x4 and plywood "plane" off my roof when I was 7. ( never forget that sort of pain! ) or why BMX and skateboards and cliff diving always appeled to me. The feeling of "flying" "falling" has always been and will always be intriguing. Landings with a parachute hurt a lot less then the other attempts by the way! MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. Hey billvon any tips on getting all the air our without having to get on the ground would be appreciated! only way I have seen and the way I was taught required allot of time on my knees and allot of bending over. I would be inclined to pack a little more often if 30 secs on the floor was all it took. Keep in mind I jump a sabre 230 which is rental gear. I am going to assume you jump one of them tiny handkerchief sized chutes MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. I think somewhere along the lines ya missed that I DO know how to pack. I choose not to. As as to watching the pack job I want to know and see all the same things i would if I was the one packing it. I just prefer to pay someone else, whom, by the way are there to earn a couple bucks. I do not have to physically pack the thing to know the same things I would if I was the one packing it. Yes you SHOULD know how to do it, do you need to pack it all the time? Nope. Should you pay attention to your gear? Absolutly. If packing came between me and the next load I sure would pack the thing ( as stated I do know how) Lets just hope that doesn't happen MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. well that means if I take my care to a mechanic that I am half a driver cuz I don't change my own oil? I watch every pack job on the rig I am jumping, once I buy my own gear(anyone have a spectre or a sabre2 230 and a rig that will fit a 6'2" 230 male for sale ) I will be more inclined to pack it more then once every two or three months. Preffering to pay a packer over putting myself in the most uncomfortable postions that packing requires ( for me anyway) does not make me half a skydiver. Makes me smarter as $5 is a lot easier on my knees then crawling around on the floor. Plus I know the packers sure appreciate the $$$$$$$$$ MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. We must live life to the fullest EVERY DAY. Crawling around on the floor with my (_*_) in the air or $5? Think I will take door number 2 Can I pack? Yep. Packed all the parachutes I ever have to pack. And yes I Jumped it on a hop-n-pop and it opened. Now I never have to crawl around on the floor with my (_*_) up in the air and besides the girl packers (_*_) look much better then mine and hey they got to eat too. How do you feel about "De Plane"???
catfishhunter replied to Shindagrl's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I had the "OH SHIT WE ALL GONNA DIE" thing going tell about jump 21 or 22. I hated,HATED getting on the plane and all the way tell alltitude all I could think about was crashing (especially as we climbed over the wasatch mountains!) If it wasn't for freefall I would never have got back on the plane, matter of fact every single jump I swore I wasn't getting back on until I jumped out and said to myself "oh yeah thats why I got on that *^%$#@ Plane!" Then one day I was looking out the window at the mountains and realized i hadn't thought about crashing into them once. Now I kinda miss that ,not completly but in a sick twisted sort of way I do miss it No matter how bad your brain tries to talk you out of getting on the plane don't let it win. It will go away and one day you to will miss that twisting of the stomach and the sweaty palms. Blue SKies! MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. Skydiving stats. for an essay

umm in 100 years I am willing to bet everyone that is a skydiver right now will be dead. sorry being a smartass MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. We must live life to the fullest EVERY DAY. Everything we do should have a greater purpose. -
Did your brain hurt after writing that? That read like it took allot of thought. I am fairly new to the sport but it doesn't take a rocket sceince to see that 90-99% of the incidents always seem to be about people going in with fully functioning canopies. Anything that can be done to reduce the casulties should be explored and impleminted ( can't spell ) MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. Small or aggressive canopy, no experience, grounded.
catfishhunter replied to Jimbo's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You do have freedom..... to splatter yourself elsewhere! You do not have the freedom to jump at their DZ as it will be them that will have to scoop up the mess you leave behind exercising what you have called your freedom. You say it is only their duty to tell you what is dangerous. So in other words they should just let first time jumpers put on a rig and jump as long as they tell them it is dangerous? Kinda like if the car manufacture built cars with no brakes, as long as they said it was dangerous to buy and drive them they should be allowed to sell them..Doesn't wash! I had a problem with flaring until someone told me to use the oh shit system. When you think you want to flare say 'oh shit' 'oh shit' 'oh shit' then flare. Doesn't work if your problem is flaring to low though MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. We must live life to the fullest EVERY DAY. Wish I had read that before I went to the Mesquite boo-gie this last weekend! A full flair in high winds absolutly picks you up slams you, then for shits and giggles sees how far you can be dragged before you can pull your toggle in.
