Pellosi: Why Work - Everyone else will pay for it for you . . .

I'm looking forward to your posting of the full transcript so we can all understand what she meant to say. -- Rob -
Obama upset about the oil spill "blame game"... Seriously?

on the first, I'm with you, on the last, I'd vote for none of the above. More likely to cast a vote towards the Libertarians in that race. -- Rob -
Obama's sig line (assuming he needs a sig line): Yes we can Just throwing it out there

Now there's a real old-school intellect whom which we can hang our hats How about these facts: http://data.bls.gov/PDQ/servlet/SurveyOutputServlet http://www.bea.gov/newsreleases/national/gdp/gdp_glance.htm http://finance.yahoo.com/echarts?s=%5EDJI+Interactive#chart1:symbol=^dji;range=2y;indicator=volume;charttype=line;crosshair=on;ohlcvalues=0;logscale=on;source=undefined Jobs are being created, the GDP is smoking, the market is up; what data do you have. Wait, wait, wait, not the rhetoric, but the data/facts as you suggested. After the Great Republican Depression, Hoover had to raise taxes to bail us out, quite a bit too late, but he finally did. Obama chose to deficit spend to help the little guy after this Great Republican Recession; either process works, but an action had to occur. Isn't it amazing how there's always a string of Republicans right before fucked economic times and a string of Dem presidents during the repair? - 3 terms of scumpublicans leading to the GD - 3 terms of scumpublicans leading to the 1990 recession - 2 terms of scumpublicans leading to our current Great Republicans Recssion Most of the debt is attributable to 2 scumbags: Fascist pif Ronnie and GWB. Yet you say that's illogic? Why? For fuck's sake, lucky, do you find it impossible to respond to a thread without using it to further your own totally unrelated vendetta? SO no repsonse? hey... thread drift happens. just usually not all in one post. -- Rob

I wouldn't oppose military service being added to the list of requirements. Not battle experience, but military service. I think the important goal of that service would be understanding from a first person perspective how the system works and a leader's decisions can influence that system. To that end, the requirement could be broadened to "federal service" for the same term (4 years I think is the minimum military enlistment in the US). Thus many presidents even without military background would have fulfilled that requirement through their federal service in congress. -- Rob

I thought it was supposed to be permission to drive a vehicle on public roads. every state I've ever lived in, a DL has also had the second purpose of being a legal identification card. Perhaps the state you live in is different. (yes, the word "state" has another meaning that could be used in that sentence) -- Rob

Oh dear! So what would you propose instead? The opinions of FOX News commentators? why do you think I worship fox news? when did I last quote them? Holy assumptions batman! I don't have an answer or a proposal for a better system. But having talked with people on the inside of that system, who tell me it's mostly worthless, I believe it is. So your pithy comments aside, I see no evidence to the contrary. -- Rob

I'll say that. it's the law. enforce it, or remove it. If citizens don't like a law, there's an established legal procedure to get a law removed. -- Rob

Furthest back I can find was one of my ancestors that helped map the Canadian-US border (1844). We have family documents describing some of it. They were interesting to read. -- Rob

It's late, perhaps you're tired. did you miss the 2 very similar sentences in my post regarding established legal processes? Or are you going beyond legal rights? What is your definition of "right" if we're not talking about legal rights? -- Rob
-
comparing the legal purchase of property with citizenship rights due to paying taxes is quite a leap. you can't come up with a better analogy? Going through the established legal process to acquire a house (including paying taxes) establishes rights to live in that house in this country. Going through the established legal process to gain citizenship in this country (including paying taxes) establishes rights to live in this country as a citizen. In this country, following an established legal process gains you certain rights at the end of that process. -- Rob

without saying anything about Al Gore, LEED ratings don't mean a whole bunch to me. I have 2 friends who are LEED "inspectors" they laughed about the "test". Tell me it was a joke, and the "inspection" is little more than a fee to get a rubberstamp. The building I work in is LEED rated. The facilities guy told me they just had the inspector come, and they didn't make any changes. Either the building was designed LEED compliant 16 years ago (not likely) or the certification is similarly a joke. -- Rob

26 years ago I showed up with my birth certificate. Ever since (until the most recent renewal) the previous license was sufficient. This time I needed my social security card, passport, or birth certificate to confirm citizenship. I know how easy it is to fake 2 of the three, but that's what we have right now. -- Rob

This is change. And he'll be able to close the gitmo detainment facility as he promised. just a few transport flights halfway around the world. -- Rob

"We had a mining accident that was very tragic," Paul said. "Then we come in and it's always someone's fault. Maybe sometimes accidents happen." sounds inexperienced to me. . Sounds like he didn't bother to investigate the company's dismal safety record before sticking his foot in his mouth to me. well that's one way to say inexperienced. but if you're going to be like that ok. -- Rob

"We had a mining accident that was very tragic," Paul said. "Then we come in and it's always someone's fault. Maybe sometimes accidents happen." sounds inexperienced to me. not total idiocy. A more experienced politician would have followed that up with something about safety measures. Maybe he should have started out as a community planner first. -- Rob

many states have laws allowing the skirting min wage if there are gratuities involved. -- Rob -
while I understand his point, and think that today there is less need for the government stepping in and determining the choices that private business can make with regards to their customers, at the time there was a need for such legislation. I've always thought his old man was pretty right on about a bunch of things, but also thought he was to far "out there" to get elected to a higher office. It appears the apple did not fall far from the tree. -- Rob

cool. only time I've seen anything similar is when a buddy asked me to come shoot the coyote that was getting into his hen house. Saw it playing around outside his fence line while I was drinking my coffee. Wasn't long before it went into predator mode and made a move on the chickens. -- Rob

I found a stiletto 135 in the garage the other day. It has (if I recall correctly) about 1000 jumps on it. Maybe a few more. A buddy loaned it to me 5+ years ago and I never used it. He wasn't using it at the time and I forgot I had it. Just saying, that it happens. People DO end up with a spare canopy lying around. (I'm not trying to sell this, and don't want to come across like I am) -- Rob
