  1. yes. I figure he didn't want the job anymore and to quietly retire wouldn't make him any publicity for his speaking engagements. -- Rob
  2. I thought I made it clear, but perhaps I need to say it with the caps locks key turned on so you can see the important thing. His opinions are more valid, because HE'S THE PRESIDENT. any opinion is as valid as the next. That's why they're opinions. One's position in the government doesn't make one's opinions any more correct than anyone elses opinions. The predient's opinions may carry more weight that others in the government, but that also is why the president needs to be careful in stating his opinions. What tends to make one's opinions more correct is a general body of knowledge on the subject and experience in that area. Doesn't always make them correct, but it helps. *** In case you missed it in the Constitution, THAT'S what makes his opinion the one that MUST be followed whether a general, you, me or Mickey Mouse says otherwise. Yes, this even applied to GWB, which is why we get to blame him for the adventures in Iraq. POTUS is the CinC of the armed forces. That makes his orders golden and his orders need to be followed. opinions offered as suggestions don't need to be followed. If an opinion is given as an order then it must be followed. There is a subtle yet important difference. -- Rob
  3. there was a guy in his basement who would coat your F-111 canopy with something to make it ZP (or close). I think his name was Fred. I don't recall exactly. I almost had him coat my wildfire168. Instead I bought a Sabre. OK, but that doesn't mean he invented/discovered it. I didn't mean to imply that he did. Though it was a viable (though not as durable) alternative. -- Rob
  4. no wonder nobody understands your arguments. Your words don't mean the same thing as our words. :P -- Rob
  5. They have a right to be there. Unfortunately. Why is that unfortunate? Would you prefer to live in a country where the government can single out and deny rights and/or privileges to groups they don't like, even though they're doing nothing illegal? No. I prefer to live in a country where there are no fucking Nazis. One must be careful not to trade one small set of nazis for a much larger and more powerful set. I'd rather have these guys running around in the desert, then another group in Congress the Arizona legislature who would squelch groups of brown people they don't like. Edit: Fixed it. so the AZ legislature is limiting the free speech of american citizens in AZ? When did this happen? -- Rob
  6. Illinois nazi's I hate Illinois nazis. -- Rob
  7. I'm not being able to explain myself to you that I agree to an extent. So rather than go back and forth, I'll just say. yes. -- Rob
  8. you didn't hear me actually... I did. Perhaps I wasn't clear. *** so what? delete the special rights and treat all individuals the same regardless of marital status yes. and if those individuals (man+woman, man+man, woman+woman or other combinations of more than 2 people) want to have legal rights that we currently associate with those between husband and wife, then they need to do the legal paperwork (civil union) that grants those rights. -- Rob
  9. I hear you. but there are so many legal rights that accompany the civil union that we now call a marriage, that in our current system, there needs to be a legal document validating that union. the "marriage" has nothing to do with the government or legal system. However if those two people want the same legal rights that accompany a traditional marriage (current definition that includes a civil union) they need to do the paperwork. -- Rob
  10. agreed 100%. even a marriage between a man and a woman should have nothing to do with the civil union that is defined by today's marriage. the officiant at a marriage of 2 people is empowered by the state to sign the marriage certificate, thus validating their civil union. There is no reason this should be limited to a man and a woman. (or even only 2 individuals) -- Rob
  11. Make up your mind - a few posts ago you wanted engineers to have "PE" after their name. That wasn't me. [/reply Might as well have been; after a bottle of rum, you and rhaig are completely indistinguishable. If that's not a PA... Rhaig, do you want to press charges? I was going to ask you the same question. That's a step up for me isn't it? -- Rob
  12. granted it's been a while, but when I was being taught what a libertarian is (not the current non-lib viewpoint of lib's being anarchists), it was a lot about not wanting regulation on how we live our personal lives. what I personally do by myself or with other consenting adults, really is no business of the government, unless I'm involving an unwilling third party (either through personal or property interactions). The consequences of my actions are my fault and I need to deal with that. This is not anarchy, this is personal freedom and accountability. for instance: I don't think we should have laws allowing gay marriage. There weren't any laws that specifically forbade it, so it was allowed. Unfortunately, there was case-law established through lawsuits and some states began to forbid it. So those rulings need to be somehow nullified. The best we seem to be doing is trying to get laws established pointing the other direction. we have too many laws that either aren't being enforced or are being enforced selectively. The last thing we need to do is put more laws on the books to stop people from doing something that doesn't interfere with other individuals. -- Rob

  15. hey... a thread in SC turns into meaningless drivel... who'd have thought... Certainly formalized education isn't meaningless. However to insist that implies anything beyond a certain level of training and the ability to successfully complete that training is to assume quite a bit. Also to assume that formalized education is required before one has the knowledge (not necessarily a certification) to complete a job is to make a whole different set of assumptions. -- Rob
  16. Have you been taking Constitution lessons from Sarah Palin or something? what's your point? do you think offensive opinions should be silenced so the thin-skinned don't get their feelings hurt? It was a rather obtuse comment... it's hard to derive your intent. -- Rob
  17. But I'm selling it cheap! Practically a steal. Cash only. I'll put it in the mail tomorrow X -- Rob
  18. Have a read and let us know if you trust them to make judgments about what qualifies as "self-defense" or to be truthful about any circumstances that lead to such an act of "self defense" http://www.nsm88.org/25points/25pointsengl.html where did I say I'd trust them? you're inferring incorrectly. I simply pointed out their claim. If that is the plan they stick to, then immigrant, drug dealer, or citizen doesn't matter. self defense is self defense. -- Rob
  19. their claim is that they'll only act in self defense. So they wouldn't need to differentiate between drug runners and simple immigrants. Yeah, right. I'm not interested in your bridge. But that is what they claim. I don't know how their actions will prove out though. -- Rob

  21. I'd suggest they pass the professional engineer's certification for their state just like they do now. Not needed for aerospace engineers. Do you know the process for getting a PE? First, graduate with a degree from an accredited engineering program. didn't know it wasn't needed for aerospace engineers... interesting. yes. I know the process. The question seemed to imply to me an alternate mode of certification. I was in the civil engineering school and transferred to computer science about the time they were discussing changing the CS degree to software engineering, and all the PE implications that went with that. I followed that pretty closely. (though it had nothing to do with those silly rocket scientists.) -- Rob

  23. At our school you have to PASS all your classes with a "C" average or better. Just completing them gets you nothing. I thought about that while writing that. I should have added it. doing too many things at once -- Rob
  24. that would be a much better analogy if degrees were only handed out to the top XX percentage of the class. Or to be more specific to your analogy, if you were discussing someone at the top of their college class. To say that someone who enters and jumps in all rounds in a 4-way competition is better than someone who doesn't is off the mark. That's what a degree means. Someone who entered college and completed all their classes. -- Rob
  25. do you have anything to back that up or are you just making more assumptions? -- Rob
