  1. Yes, in certain situations it most definitely would be used for personal protection. Suppose there was a large terrorist attack, or natural disaster, would you rather have a .22 pistol or an AK47? hell, if I was out on my neighbor's ranch I'd want a rifle over my 1911. Hogs can be nasty!! -- Rob
  2. I don't expect any politicians to tell the truth. If YOU do, I'd like to sell you a nice bridge. Steel or fiberglass? and is the nano-thermite pre-installed? -- Rob
  3. meh... you've so frequently resorted to playing the player, not the game, that your arguments here have about as much credibility as mine. -- Rob
  4. skin in the game (to me) means someone who paid taxes last year, or has the potential to pay taxes this year, or next year. Pretty wide net, I know, but that's the way I see it. If above referenced middle-class non-tax paying families haven't paid taxes in a while, and don't stand to pay taxes next year, then they don't have skin in the game. They have good reason to vote for whomever stands the best chance of letting them not pay taxes still (regardless of the candidate's platform). The millionaire non-tax payers are likely sheltering what income they are paid through some of the many allowances (loopholes) that our tax code makes. They have skin in the game... they may be forced to pay taxes next year. They have good reason to vote for the candidates not for tax reform, and for allowing these loopholes to continue. Tax reform should be high on the priority list. -- Rob
  5. I don't think the violence will have to be staged by the government. Give it a couple of weeks. They'll be tired and pissed off, the cops will slack off their presence, maybe it'll get started by some counter protesters. I don't know. But it'll be a powder keg by then. I like the complaints though, humorous... "I have a college degree, a full time job, and $25K in debt and I just can't get ahead" -- wah! you should have taken a personal finance class then and learn what a budget is. Quit drinking high end liquor with your friends at the high end clubs, cut up your credit cards, pay your bills, eat ramen for a few more years. Work hard, pay off your shit. You might even get a promotion for working that hard. -- Rob
  6. I was hoping they would get prop 19 passed last year. Not because I smoke pot. Haven't for more than 10 years. (and I don't care if you smoke pot) I wanted it passed because that's about a strong a 10th amendment play as a state can do. Yeah, there are the firearms freedom acts that have been passed, but you don't hear about those in the news. -- Rob
  7. as are most of the people in the world making statements based off of the quote they read on FB or reddit or DZ.com or their neighbor's ass. Americans are (for the most part) lazy, ignorant, and apathetic. If they hear an opinion that sounds like fact, then it must be true, and they'll parrot it as such. We see that HERE every day. -- Rob
  8. He doesn't have to make it work. He should get the Nobel. He might make it work. That's good enough right? There is solid potential... And even if he doesn't and goes all george bush on libya or something, it's OK. -- Rob
  9. yeah... cause if we kill em off, it'll keep em from breeding new ones... oh... wait. nevermind.... -- Rob
  10. simply violating the RO isn't enough. http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/Docs/PE/htm/PE.9.htm Sec 9 outlines all the cases force and deadly force are allowed under law. the short answer is: If the violator of the RO had a violent past, then perhaps merely violating the restraining order would incite the belief that there was imminent threat of the above cases. In that case, merely violating the RO might be enough. A grand jury gets to decide in TX on every shooting. -- Rob
  11. why is it always so damn black & white with you? can liberals do no wrong? open your eyes man. there is corruption on both sides of the fence. they're almost all in it for their own good, not ours. -- Rob
  12. Canuck and I already gave you answers,. Just parroting "wealth is not income" is NOT an answer. Neither is parroting "wealth should be taxed like income". READING trouble AGAIN? Post #197 "I'd prefer taxes to be based on wealth" - kallend MEMORY trouble AGAIN? INCORRECT. I have stated that wealth should be taxed like wealth. lame weaseling. -- Rob
  13. nice... more stories about an agency with powers inflated beyond the intended, and with an effectiveness on par with that expected from any generic government agency. unfortunately I occasionally have to travel for work, I'm too familiar with the process described towards the end of the article. -- Rob
  14. Ask the Texan who started quoting biblical verses. well... I don't want to get in the middle here, but I know how you like to be specific. I do believe you were the first one I saw quoting verses. WRONG - take a look at post #88, this thread. Surely you can count. Surely you understand the difference between a singular verse, and plural verses. But in post 88 I only see one (singular) verse. Lame weaseling. um... no. perhaps you didn't notice the bold S in my post, or the note that I know you like to be specific. You may have missed my implied meaning. But I am not "weaseling" to try to make myself right. You missed my meaning, and abused your shift key telling me I was wrong. Well, it seems you were incorrect. I'm sorry, I'll be more clear next time. I thought someone of your advanced education would have picked up on something as blatant as a bold S. -- Rob

  17. Herman Cain wins the FL straw poll. That's great. Ron Paul took second in the Iowa straw poll. That's great too. I'd like to have Cain or Paul. But 4 years ago at this point McCain was one of the "Others". So it's still anyone's game. Just please not Perry... -- Rob
  18. Obtuse doesn't suit you. Sarcasm does... -- Rob
  19. For all the folks who insist that the US side of the Mexican border is perfectly safe: http://www.kvue.com/news/Report-focuses-on-border-security-130573338.html So did they lie, or might Occam's razor actually apply here? -- Rob
  20. what??? knives aren't banned in bars??? oh dear... -- Rob
  21. If they'd drop the pre-bate in favor of not taxing unprocessed and staple foods, and throw in a tax-free weekend on home electronics and clothing once a quarter, I think it would be better. -- Rob
  22. Well, that's hilarious. I paid more income tax last year than GE did. My guess is they have a far greater ability to pay than I do. It seems you're implying you think GE should pay more... so you agree with me. You think they should pay their fair share... according to their ability. How is that hilarious? I don't see it unless you're assuming that I think it's currently this way. In which case you're mistaken. I think that unless we greatly simplify the tax code it doesn't matter if we pass a "Buffett Rule" that puts an AMT on earners above a certain point. There will be loopholes to make that not happen. Everyone should pay a little more. Everyone should have skin in the game. If you don't have a job, your skin in the game should be time. Go work a few hours a week for your welfare. Honestly disabled?? (not shopped doctors until you get the diagnosis you're looking for) get a pass. -- Rob
  23. every time I hear "fair share" wrt taxpayers, I always parse it as "from each according to their ability" -- Rob
  24. yup... and everyone who voted for him will say "see how much better he was than the last guy" and everyone who didn't will say "your guy is the same as the last guy!". Someone will be on about "well it's Bush's fault", and of course, they'll all be right. At least partially. -- Rob
