I was unaware anybody on either side thought Bush was running in 2008. Certainly nobody I know voted "anybody but Bush." Hmmm, learn something new every day. you totally missed out on one aspect of the campaign then. the "it's all bush's fault, so elect anyone else" and they assumed that McCain would be just like Bush. They didn't account for the fact that Obama was just as much of a puppet. -- Rob

Like registering deceased Democrats in Chicago? They were LEGALLY dead. Please keep up. I'm sorry. I cannot accept placing the dead on the voter rolls (legally or illegally) unless there is a current photo ID and a death certificate available at the time they're voting. The undead? well, I suppose... there were enough "anybody but bush" mindless voters in 2008 to get Obama elected. Now we're going to have a whole new set of "anybody but " voters. And guess what, we'll have the same old problems. -- Rob

A tragic set of events that was contributed to by slanted sensationalist reporting by non-objective media outlets (yes, that was repetitively redundant). It's a good thing that sort of problem (with slanted media reporting) isn't happening today... oh wait... it is. But it's in the other direction, so it's ok. -- Rob

The reason they don't want people to see your guns and your game is that the rest of america has been pussified to be afraid of guns and dead animals. Don't ask them where their steaks come from. They'll throw a gear. -- Rob

I got stopped for speeding in a known speed trap in central TX once... I didn't notice the speed limit sign because I was driving with my knees while screwing new grips onto my 1911. (yeah yeah... I know...) So the officer asked me why I was speeding, and I told him I didn't realize that I was. Hand over DL & CHL... He asks if I'm armed. I end up showing him the new grips, and we chat about 1911's for a few minutes. He runs me, comes back, and send me on my way with a verbal warning. -- Rob

everyone enjoys nice weather. Do something good with yours. I hope to have some of my own soon. (though we can't complain about the rain we've been getting) -- Rob

so a 6 month trend in a single city makes it climate, and not weather? -- Rob

well, the fee he's referring to is his carry permit. Not an ownership permit. That doesn't exist in TX. The carry permit is good for at least 4 years. In some cases almost 6 (a renewed license expires on your next birthday after 5 years, so if your timing is right, you could almost get 6 years out of the fee). So John's cost to carry his gun is < $7/year, not > $110. His ownership cost to the state is zero. -- Rob

and yet you two go back and forth constantly. with subtle insults interspersed. just stop already and let the thread die. -- Rob

How about you show us the numbers of GCA-68 banned individuals that subsequently purchased, first? And no, your google search doesn't count. GCA 68 bans only. GCA or no GCA, people shot dead by nutters with guns are still very dead. All you do is emphasize the problem with the current process, yet you continue to defend it. Everything you post suggests that you just don't care. Why do you want it to be trivially easy for felons and the mentally disturbed to get guns? What's in it for you? what I keep seeing in this back and forth you two engage in constantly is that you, prof, want the federal government to step in and control gun sales nation wide. Even if it were to be a private transaction between two individuals outside of a gun show or a dealership. The other side of the story is that states have a right to enact their own laws, and choose to make NICS checks required for all firearms transfers. You appear to wish to weaken (at minimum... abolish more likely) the 10th amendment rights of states to control what happens inside their state borders that isn't already a power assigned by the constitution to the federal government. -- Rob

You mean like enforcing car seat laws better and increasing fines for non-compliance. That option wasn't given by one of our resident gun-nuts above. well, the discussion didn't swing to medical training until some other nut brought it into the discussion. So yeah. More enforcement and increased fines. That's referred to by many as "Constitutional Carry". The idea being (as you stated) that the constitution gives them the right to keep and bear arms and any governmental institution that makes rules or laws to restrict that right on public property is infringing on their constitutional rights. I can see both sides of the argument there. Just as some people are dangerous behind the wheel of a car (my wife if the car is in reverse), some people are dangerous behind the trigger. However, if a state made a law saying that an individual could not participate in any public protests without a permit (that cost $140 processing fee) would that be restricting someone's right to free speech? If yes, why is one right unduly restricted by a permit and a fee, when for another right it "just makes sense". What about a federal law that permits Secret Service agents to designate any place they wish as a place where free speech, association and petition of the government are prohibited. And it permits the Secret Service to make these determinations based on the content of speech. -- Rob

or you could start where many gun enthusiasts suggest: Enforce existing laws, don't make new ones. -- Rob

That. I'm ordering an AK this week (post conversion saiga, already 922r compliant) and a buddy asked if I was going to replace the handguards with quadrails so I could put a red-dot and a light on it. I looked at him like he was stupid (well, to be honest, sometimes he his) and said "it's an AK... WHY does it need a red-dot and a light?" He didn't have a good answer. Yeah... I'm going to take one of the (arguably) most reliable platforms, and add a bunch of shit to it that can break. I'm not even planning on using it in 3-gun. I just like the platform. I want one. so yeah. "iron sights" -- Rob

what do you expect her to do... she has bills to pay. After all, she has TWO HOUSES!!! -- Rob

It's likely that they will call the regular cops. I'm sure they have an agreement with them, and the cops are waiting on the other side of the trap. It's my understanding that they have been operating in cooperation with local LEOs. If I were to get stopped by the TSA, I'd have a similar response. Do you have a warrant? No? ok, let's get the real cops involved then. -- Rob

So, your claim that you only want to enforce EXISTING law is a lie, then? It IS enforcing EXISTING law - the one that prohibits the sale to felons and loonies. You're being intentionally obtuse again. You understood the expansion you propose of the existing law. That's why you capitalized ALL. You want to expand that check to private gun sales in all states. -- Rob
-
Haven't you heard there is no gold inside fort knox :P -- Rob

So because one lying hypocrite institutes a law that has no statistics behind it's need, you'd like to institute a law without showing any statistics behind it's need. That's what I read here. Hey! You could be a politician!! :) -- Rob
-
And in some states there are laws on the books stating just that. (good laws IMO) -- Rob

unless the douchebag traveling with said laptop just puts it to sleep and his unlock password is written on a post-it on his screen (seen it happen). -- Rob

It appears to me that you're in the same camp as the Brady folks. You want to discuss restrictions on firearm ownership. But when safety is brought up, you deflect. It appears to me that you're not interested in reducing injuries or deaths caused by firearms, nor the damage caused by improper use of seat belts or matches... You seem to be interested only in restricting firearm ownership. Yes, this is a topic about a shooting. That has morphed in one way into a discussion about safety. keep up prof! -- Rob

as is the (D) as we discussed in a different thread. (also liars) -- Rob

Even YOUR logic isn't that bad!! He's a politician... of COURSE he's a hypocrite. Oh, sorry. I thought they were just all liars. Good point. That too. -- Rob
