I'll see if I can find the video again... There was one of an anesthesiologist presenting on gunshot victims, why they died, what did the most damage... Was really cool. The 15second summary was that handgun shots do most of the damage only where the bullet travels, so a larger round does more damage. The implication (I don't recall if he actually said it, so I won't claim that) was that rifle rounds can be smaller because the wound cavity ls larger (caused by the speed of the round). that was easier than I thought it would be: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tku8YI68-JA&feature=youtu.be -- Rob

Everyone I know who's back from deployment hates the M9. Of those people, they are carrying a variety. One carries a glock, a couple a Springfield XD, one loves his CZ-75 (in .40) and several carry a couple of different full size 1911 variants. You probably need something thin so you don't have a huge bulge somewhere. I've got enough of a gut I could likely get away with something with a nice fat double-stack grip, but I carry a 1911. (I suspect you don't have the gut I do) My friend with the CZ-75 tells me the CZ-97 is also nice (.45ACP) but I don't know much else about it. It seems that with a 4-oclock inside the waistband (which is how I typically carry), width is more of a concealment issue than length. With appendix carry (as opposed to 4-oclock) length is a comfort issue. The downsides to polymer framed handguns is the perceived recoil force is higher due to the lighter weight. Of course the lighter weight is a positive wrt comfort of carry. In the end, there are concealment systems for pretty much anything. Find a .40 or .45 you like, pick up a version that will conceal well depending on how you intend to carry. -- Rob

President Obama's speech was...and the job report means....
rhaig replied to mirage62's topic in Speakers Corner
well... his writers at least are consistent. I watched a discussion (on NBC) about Obama's speech and they noted that there were not extraordinary claims or suggestions, it was typical and "hum drum". I didn't watch either primary, so I won't comment on the speeches or comparisons beyond the above. -- Rob -
no... put him in prison. Just don't allow him any special protection. Then he'll see what it was like to be sexually abused. A rare case where the US prison system makes the punishment fit the crime. He'd probably be murdered in prison anyway. -- Rob

but just like the increase-taxes/reduce-spending arguments, both should be employed. We should work to reduce our energy use (not I said "energy" not "oil") and work on producing more energy through many methods (not just oil). -- Rob

The one that troubles me the most is the one that says she would support ANYTHING her president wanted to do. I don't care who the president is, that is never the right answer. -- Rob

3 times on this page you replied to a direct question with drivel and doublespeak. Are you a politician? you sound like a professional. -- Rob

Don't bother him... he's on a roll. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8lT1o0sDwI -- Rob

dude... I let it go when it was reported. I may have even posted about it here. But it's not so important that I go find it. I may have used that quite for shit-stirring here, but seriously... a guy runs a marathon 20 something years ago, was probably semi-conscious when he finished, and says "Under three, high twos. I had a two hour and fifty-something" sounds to me like he doesn't recall. and he was wrong by an hour. not a trivial amount, but politically a trivial event, and if that's all the news has to talk about, then either he's pretty damn clean, or they need to work harder. -- Rob

It's as relevant as a worn out presidential candidate saying there are 58 states. -- Rob

and as demonstrated by recent events, there are still guns in the hands of idiots who carry a badge in NY. what would you propose? Or is bitching about it the limit of your suggestion? I shouldn't expect more. it's SC after all, but I was just wondering. -- Rob

eh...I don't see foreign tourists in the US behaving much better. The self entitled come from everywhere - as seen at Utah ski resorts like Park City. yeah... I have seen some "Ugly Europeans" in China. They were French though... so I kind of expected it :) -- Rob

Texas has a provision for use of force against an officer. 9.31.(c) The use of force to resist an arrest or search is justified: (1) if, before the actor offers any resistance, the peace officer (or person acting at his direction) uses or attempts to use greater force than necessary to make the arrest or search; and (2) when and to the degree the actor reasonably believes the force is immediately necessary to protect himself against the peace officer's (or other person's) use or attempted use of greater force than necessary. However 9.31.(d) says "The use of deadly force is not justified under this subchapter except as provided in Sections 9.32, 9.33, and 9.34." those 3 sections are a lot to quote here, but you can go look it up at http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/Docs/PE/htm/PE.9.htm They outline the justifications for using deadly force in the defense of a third person of for the protection of life or health. I don't know if other states have similar statutes. -- Rob

Seriously? Have you ever been on a volunteer team of any sort? Do you have any idea how difficult it is to get 4 people just to agree where to go to lunch? I can't for the life of me figure out how anyone gets that many people to show up for anything. Tell them to reschedule? Are you out of your flippin' mind? thanks... I thought the world was about to end there for a minute. -- Rob

I'm convinced that pretty much everyone inside the beltway is in it for themselves, and doesn't give a shit about anything that the US used to stand for. -- Rob

but are you helping them because they can't help themselves, or are you enabling them because they don't want to help themselves. It's a fine line. You don't seem to want to acknowledge it's existence. -- Rob

then this would be a thread about how tasers are only "less than lethal" and not perfectly safe. "why did he have to be tased? he was still several feet from any officer and all he had was a knife?" -- Rob
