heard all the time in tactical training circles: "handguns suck at killing people" -- Rob
-
they're being short-sighted and only worrying about how their current actions make them look in the immediate future. Of course we're to blame for that, because we, the voters, only look at the history that's spoon-fed to us during the election cycle. It's far enough from that election cycle that they can make up other shit to tell us between now and then. -- Rob

i doubt it's a problem for these CEOs, whose median pay was up 43.6 percent last year. In 2009 their median increased ONLY 20.6 percent. hey look.... a dead horse. -- Rob

we can only hope that not knowing what it was, the reserve pilot chute gave him a bloody nose. -- Rob

sure, but don't pretend that the democrats want a small government either. I'll say it again. The job of a career politician is to stay in office and wield their power to gain more power so that they can get re-elected. We need fewer politicians and more public servants. unfortunately that's not going to happen any time soon. Once more than half the households didn't pay any taxes, we were beyond that tipping point. Those people will get out and vote themselves candidates that will extend their benefits. When the swing goes the other way, it will go so far that the candidates from the other side of the fence will be radicals compared to only a few years ago. From where I sit, the formation that was once a useful government has already flushed. Not sure where it goes from here. But it's not likely to be pretty. -- Rob

ah yes... the 2 wrongs make a right argument. ok... if that's all you've got. one side says no tax hikes, one says no spending cuts. when the reality is both are required. -- Rob

now you're being intentionally obtuse. Or at least I hope it's intentional. -- Rob

you seemed to be comparing FAA standards in airlines to TSA standards for security. I was indicating the difference between the acceptability of the two. as for changing the TSA standards... The last time a state threatened making those searches defined as illegal, the feds leaned on the politicians to withdraw the bill. And you know full well that administratively changing those standards isn't happening any time soon. And apparently changing them through establishing laws at the state level is met with threats from the feds. your government, at work for you... yeah right. -- Rob

Yes. You are not being told that you can't skydive. so just as travel isn't infringed by not flying, skydiving isn't infringed by not flying? "you're not being told you can't skydive" what, you're going to take the elevator? -- Rob

It was that way for many years. The primary airline at an airport was the employer of airport security. Some airports (Kansas City) had security checkpoints for each gate area. This was good and bad. If you had to change flights there (it was a hub for Braniff at one point) you had to go through security (bad) but the security checks were so spread out that there was rarely more than a few minute wait. so back to the first system except rather than the primary airline carrying the employees, they would be airport employees... ok. I think the TSA doesn't need to be a department with thousands of employees. It needs to be a document that sets standards and roll the overhead of the agency in with another department. Shrinkage in this case is good. -- Rob
-
yes, it's just that the FAA standards don't involve what many people would call groping. I think that's the salient difference. -- Rob
-
Uh, you realize that the TSA still gets to set the security standards for the private security company, right? -- Rob

Nuclear disaster unfolding in the USA right now...?

how quaint... don't worry... the government will provide for all your needs too I'm sure. -- Rob -
Are our military (US) treated right after they are all used up?
rhaig replied to DanJohnson's topic in Speakers Corner
after speaking with several wounded warriors, the system is excellent until they get into the VA system. Then it starts to fall apart. -- Rob -
no more than the gun-owners have kicked me off their team for being known for not wearing shoes. -- Rob

really it's because he realized that even if he did kill it, it would be back in 3 days anyway. -- Rob

Not really. There is no legal requirement to speak English in the US. It might score him some points in certain sectors, but overall it was an inappropriate question to begin with. No, it is not inappropriate to ask All governement funtions SHOULD be in english. That would require a proper and error-free English .... (at least in such a short senctence, man ) edited to add: 3 errors in 7 words - that's a new high, even for you. You're doing a disserve to yourself. edit No. 2: Yes, I know, it's called *disservice* ... odd that our local german is the english grammar nazi. (and no, my shift key isn't stuck) -- Rob

or the group that asked the person to testify in the first place needs to provide a certified translator. don't be so obvious. It's a public hearing. The hearing is conducted in english. The records are kept in english. The testimony needs to be recorded in english. -- Rob

this and most of the examples of reported bias, are all about what makes good news. -- Rob

Yes, yes I do think that. Unsurprising. which... kidwicked's response, or the complete and total lack of action by a mod since these repeated PA's are against one of the more conservative members of this forum?? -- Rob

and this doesn't take into account new guns sold without NICS checks because the purchaser has a concealed handgun license. (which according to the ATF is a NICS exemption in many states http://www.atf.gov/firearms/brady-law/permit-chart.html) -- Rob

we're discussing the system of electing the PotUS, not the actions of their administrations. you may equate the two if you wish, but I don't see the correlation. -- Rob

I could pull out the tired old "bread and circuses" quote. Or I could point out the oft pointed to figure that more than 50% of the households in the US don't pay income tax, and then refer to the tired old bread and circuses quote. Instead, I'll say that democracy doesn't "scare me" as you assume (remember the benny hill quote) but I don't think that a pure democracy is the best system. -- Rob
