http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iivL4c_3pck&feature=player_embedded Here's a radio interview with Obama, well maybe it's Limbaugh doing an impression, you decide. Experience is what you get when you thought you were going to get something else. AC DZ

The OP was about the Constitution and the fact that people get all bent out of shape on privacy issues, but that a very large share of the document is routinely disregarded by our benevolent government, and that the Constitution is regarded as getting in the way of "good law" Seeking to justify this set of arrangements in Federalist 51, Madison explains the need for them by reference to the imperfection of man. He compares us to angels, which relative to humans are less given to greed. In a beautiful passage, Madison explains that the reason we humans require government is also the reason why government must be limited: But what is government itself but the greatest of all reflections on human nature? If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. Sometimes my misspelling works. Boobies have been known to provide sustenance, again with the super/supper powers. Experience is what you get when you thought you were going to get something else. AC DZ

Exactly, I like boobies a lot more than I like 6 seconds of freefall! I don't have the the power of the boobies, and I refuse to any sort of "service." What I do have is the power that comes with owning the airplane, and paying the bills. I can simply tell the pilot to go higher, though I seldom do. I will encourage those on board with their god given power to employ their assets once in a while. Boobies are like possessing a supper power. Ok, but poor as compared to a "real" video camera with some image stabilization. I'm liking the idea of combining this camera (for stills) with my existing video camera. Experience is what you get when you thought you were going to get something else. AC DZ

I'm not constitutional scholar, but as I understand "provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States" did not mean "attempt to level the playing field by confiscatory taxation" as in "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need." I heard a comment from our current Chief Executive to the affect that the Constitution is an obstacle, just getting in the way of doing good. What a bitch! I was thinking that it would be nice to hang it from my hand cam glove. Slip the glove on, and it's all there, one solution for both. Experience is what you get when you thought you were going to get something else. AC DZ

Can anyone post picture/s of a camera mounted to a hand cam glove? I kind of see how you'd do it. The camera goes into a housing, said housing needs the mounting crap cut off. Then drill holes and super tack the housing to the glove? Experience is what you get when you thought you were going to get something else. AC DZ

Buff, surely you see the irony in commenting about my lack of computer savoy when I've been posting here. That said, these people would have no idea that I've never had a ocmputer at the DZ. What do I need with a puter at the DZ? I have shit I need to get done! If I were to start offering Hand Cam with quality stills, I could totally eliminate the outside video option. Before you go into a rant about all the out of work Kansas Viditos, at my DZ the TIs also fly outside video, no harm/no foul. So, the problem then becomes a matter of how to maintain my RW skills if no longer flying outside video? Don't even suggest that I'm going to have to do a fun jump once in a while if I Go Pro! Looking through the thread on wire tapping, it occurred to me that some parts of the Constitution seem to be "more important" than others. Seems "privacy" issues are paramount, but the enumerated powers are passe. Seems that anything can be justified by evoking the Interstate Commerce Clause, maybe wiretapping is an Interstate Commerce Clause issue? Just as much as health care is an Interstate Commerce Clause issue. If not from the Commerce Clause, where does the Federal Government garnish the power to confiscate the health care industry? 15/20 After reading the info at the end, I would have been able to have done somewhat better. Reminds me of the "after tandem group shots", especially with cheep digital cameras. Seems that we're back to the 1800s, required to hold a pose for 30 seconds waiting on the camera. I very often say "We're loosing the moment!" I may have started off with a real smile, but after 5 seconds it's been replaced. Martin Edit to correct spelling of my name. Cool! I'm kind of wanting one. So, once I get on the ground I suppose I'll need a computer to download, and burn a CD? Experience is what you get when you thought you were going to get something else. AC DZ

We'll generally use one guy even if two are there, the second guy will get the next tandem. If I land with no catcher, I'll reel in one toggle, generally just one line. I had a steering line burn through my hand the other day as a gust came up. It's funny to me when someone catches who doesn't really get it. I've had people take the toggle out of my hand, and just stand there letting me drag away from them to collapse the canopy. Also funny to watch people who don't know me well enough, I sometimes S turn a little to keep from over flying, or come in off heading and correct to the catcher. Some people are running back and forth, I'll yell "Stay still!" Then if/when I know I'm going to be short "Run!" Experience is what you get when you thought you were going to get something else. What whuffo questions annoy you the most?
skydived19006 replied to Tuna-Salad's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have a few canned responses to that one: "Thanks for noticing!" "Very astute observation." "Can't slip anything by you." "You have very nice tits, and a tight ass." "Thank you! And you have a fat ass." In order of use. Actually, I don't think that I've ever used the last two. Anyone here with nice tits, and a tight ass care to inform me that I'm tall? Not that it's annoying; What's it like? Somewhere between a car crash and good sex. Feel free to use. I had a fifth grade son of another skydiver tell me that his science teacher informed him that people can breath through their skin in freefall. I called bullshit on his teacher. Told the kid to ask his teacher to do a little experiment; Draw a bathtub full of water, get naked, place fan blowing at said bathtub, stick head under water pointing ass at fan, maintain 10 min. "Why would anyone jump from a perfectly good airplane?" I think it's the natural state of human beings to speak first, and think later, or not at all. The irony I see is that people ask these things thinking that they're being original and clever. I'm a tall guy at 6'8", and am an electrician in real life. Years ago we were doing a relighting job, I work for the Wichita Public Schools. I decided to start counting one evening when someone would say "You don't even need a ladder." I'd simply reply with a number, they'd generally ask "What's 81?" "You're the 81st person today who's informed me that I don't need a ladder." People also seem to think that I don't even realize that I'm taller than average. They very often feel the overwhelming need to inform me "You're tall." I'm not offended at all, it's just human nature to say stupid stuff. On that topic, why is being tall about the only physical trait that people feel free to comment on? Is it because it's viewed as an asset, or advantage? Then why is it not equally acceptable to say to someone "You have huge boobs." Oops sorry, that turned into a rant. Have a nice day all you short fucks especially those of you with big tits! Martin Experience is what you get when you thought you were going to get something else. AC DZ -
Just drop a couple of beers in their bag! If they're knocking on doors begging for handouts, at least they're not knocking over your outhouse. Edit to add: That said, I do like the rock idea. Reminds me of the time someone at the DZ slipped a bowling ball in a guys gear bag. He said later that carrying it to the car, he was think'n 'man, I must just be a bit more worn out than usual after a day at the DZ.' Regardless of the Sough being full of dog masturbates, it isn't a crime. Is it a crime to jack off a bull? It's done all the time, then how about the process of AI with the cow? Maybe in the application process for southern law enforcement they should ask: "Have you ever masturbated a dog?" "No, but I'm willing to learn." Does your DZ give refunds?
skydived19006 replied to XitXitXit's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
We warn people that if they purchase a gift certificate, it's not refundable. We also routinely suggest that they can make up their own gift certificate, come along with their buddy, and pay the day of the jump. All that said, I will refund a gift certificate once in a while. We give one year until expiration, waiting 11 months, then calling with "I've been busy" isn't justification, though I will generally give them a couple of additional months. We require a $50 deposit, I obviously push people to reschedule, but we do very often refund the $50. The theory behind the deposit is to ensure that people don't schedule, then not show up. If they're weathered out and do not or can not reschedule I'll refund the deposit. All that said, I do hate to give "my" money back to our customers. In the long run fucking people out of their money, and making enemies doesn't seem like a good business model to me (sounds like another Skyride thread). Especially considering the percentage of our business which comes to us through referrals. Martin Experience is what you get when you thought you were going to get something else. AC DZ -
Verdict Skydive Arizona VS Quattrocchi et el
skydived19006 replied to bbarnhouse's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Universally, are "we" that desperate for business? No. Individually, are a quite a few DZOs that desperate for business? Apparently yes The irony I see; I'm sure that the vast majority of these DZOs who choose to partner with Skyride are honest, respectable folks. They wouldn't make it a practice to lie, cheat, and steel, or set policy that their employees do such. But, they have no problem partnering with someone as their proxy to do exactly that. If there are more law suits, and DZOs who enable Skyride are named, I'm guessing that the rats will start abandoning the Skyride ship in a hurry. It may be considered "dirty" within the community to sue a "fellow DZO", but I think that the end justifies the means. Fire-breathing ‘Supervan’ debuts
skydived19006 replied to skydived19006's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Sounds like one hell of a jump ship! http://www.aopa.org/aircraft/articles/2009/091009supervan.html?WT.mc_id=091016epilot&WT.mc_sect=gan Texas Turbine Conversions Inc. has begun delivering the first of its Cessna Caravan engine mods, and it’s a doozy. For $495,000, the owner of a model 208 or 208B (Grand Caravan) can exchange his or her stock, 675-shp Pratt & Whitney PT6A-114A turboprop engine for a 900-shp Honeywell TPE-331-12JR powerplant. Texas Turbines calls this mod the Supervan 900, and it comes with new engine mounts, a new cowling, new starter-generator, and a new Hartzell 110-inch diameter, four-blade propeller. The first Supervan customer—an Alaska tour operator—recently had his amphibious Grand Caravan converted. Seven more Caravans are on deck for the conversion, including airplanes that will be based in Australia, Mexico, and Germany. Texas Turbines’ Bobby Bishop says that compared to standard-issue Caravans, Supervan takeoff distances are cut by 25 to 30 percent. “I went up to Leadville [Colorado] and saw a 40-percent reduction in takeoff distance up there at 9,000 feet,” Bishop said. Texas Turbines says the Supervan’s ground run is 1,054 feet; standard Caravans list a 1,405-foot ground run. supervanBut the performance improvements don’t end there. Max cruise at 10,000 feet is 198 knots, says Texas Turbines; standard Grand Caravans fly at 175 knots. Climb rate is 1,510 fpm at sea level and max takeoff weight, and max endurance is up to 1,000 nm, the company says. Another boost comes with the Honeywell engine’s 7,000-hour time between overhaul; the standard Caravan’s PT6 has a 3,600-hour TBO. The Hartzell propeller gives an extra inch of ground clearance on straight, non-amphibious Caravans. Experience is what you get when you thought you were going to get something else. AC DZ -
Here's what someone in the Cessna Pilots Association form said: Martin, I think you're correct about the noise. There is a German company that makes an STC'd "silent" exhaust system for those who want to go unnoticed. Maybe the three blade propellers are also about noise as opposed to high power output engines? Now, what about the silly handle bar mounted on the strut, and the "rear float steps." You know what I hate about the German? They have a different word for everything!! Experience is what you get when you thought you were going to get something else. AC DZ
-
It could be about noise, the standard muffler isn't much of a muffler. Again, the majority of the noise is from the propeller especially at climb RPM. If it's a generic regulation for all piston aircraft, the fact that the propeller is noisy for a hard climb would not have been considered. I wonder if they go so far as to consider the tip speed of the propeller? With three blades you can go shorter propeller, and lower tip speed, so less noise. I have a three blade propeller on my 182, but it's the same diameter as the one it replaced. For break in we flew it around at 2600 rpms for a while, I liked the sound but the propeller was generating one hell of a lot of noise!
