  1. Hi Tony, A couple of things: 1. I remember the rings photo as being on the cover of Time (I've been a subscriber since the fifties). I do not think that they ever had a 'centerfold' (you've got your magazines mixed up ) or a Picture of the Year. Just my memories. 2. I once posted here about a malfunction on a practice jump and had a reply from someone who was on the rings team that said that there never was a malfunction. I wonder who is correct????? 2. Hi, About '67 or so I was talking with Scotty Hamilton and he had just done a few jumps on the Irvin canopy, the one that they had TSO'd. He said that he pulled immediately off the step and the thing hit him like a ton of bricks; the hardest opening he had ever experienced. And that was with a sleeve, JerryBaumchen
  3. Hi cosmo, I agree, that is not a PC. I was thing Ruskie also. JerryBaumchen
  4. Was he the Man In Motion guy? If so, I met him back in '84 at Abbotsford when he had one of his ParaCommander copies with him for people to demo. JerryBaumchen
  5. Hi howard, Do you have that photo from a cover of SKYDIVER with Cameron hanging on from the bottom of the door of a 6 with smoke trailing from his boot? Probably about '66 or so. JerryBaumchen
  6. Whoa, time out. I do not believe that I mentioned anything about what you do. I'm sorry if you took it that way. JerryBaumchen
  7. The Irvin Eagle is what I would say also. And the two pilot chutes makes me think that might be an Army Team jumper. JerryBaumchen PS) Irvin actually got a TSO or their version of this type of canopy.
  8. Hi efs4ever, Reminds me of an incident back in the '60's; some guys were doing a demo and one guy had a mal with cutaway on his ParaCommander. He couldn't find it and the next day the local paper ran an article about the 'near death experience' and said that there was a $250 reward for the return of the canopy. A couple of days later he got a call and the guy said that he had the canopy and how should he meet him for the $250. The owner said that the article was wrong and the reward was really $25. The caller hungup and that was the last of the owner's canopy. JerryBaumchen
  9. Crappola, And here's my typo: JerryBaumchen
  10. Hi hackish, Well, I tend to by like you; typos just bug me. And I make far more than my share. Spell-checkers have made us poor typists. This one has always bugged me: It is COMPRESSION folks; but most people simply do not know the difference between tension & compression. I don't know of anyone who would pull on a pilot chute to determine it's strength. As to your lubing threads, back when I was just an engineering student working part-time in a test lab I had a project on a test study of torque vs axial load on fasterners with various forms of contaminates, lubes, etc. The results were very informative. And you are very correct in your comments about the torques vs axial loads. Some of the fasteners on my last Porsche had bolts, holding the brake calipers on, that once torqued were never to be used again, you had to replace them with new ones. Just my rambling on . . . . 11. Hi Nick, Reminds me of the Soviet pole vaulter ( can't remember his name ), about 20 yrs ago, who would always break the existing world record by just 5 mm ( the minimum to claim a new record ); he made a LOT of $$$ and fame doing that. JerryBaumchen
  12. There is a DZO here in Oregon who is collecting alimony (it's called Spousal Support here) from his ex-wife. Seems as though she made more $$$ than he did. JerryBaumchen
  13. Hi twardo, The logo is just the EFA logo, they were the mfrs of the Paps in France. JerryBaumchen
  14. Hi SARLDO, Well, the same happened to me except I was US gov't employee. 1. Your future earnings (the increase in money you make from COLA's, promotions, etc) will be excluded from the XX% calculations (but only if you challenge it). My ex only gets 26% of my retirement but was awarded that magical 50% as of the divorce. We were married for 24 yrs, 20 good ones and 4 of pure H***. 2. Alimony is state-dependent. It took me 10 yrs (Oregon law) to terminate mine. 3. Don't think about going to another country to avoid it; it is paid by the feds & directly to her, no matter where you are located. 4. Given time the wound will heal. I know mine has.
  15. Hi Terry, I remember studying this device back then; and spending a lot of time talking to Tom Classen about it. Tom said that the tolerances were very tight and really not possible for a stitched device unless you were really good at holding those tolerances. Most production stitchers just cannot do it. JerryBaumchen PS) Yup, Bill Jeswine; thanks Deb.
  16. Hi Terry, This why I am opposed to any type rating for riggers. If you can read the manuals and can pack a parachute you can pack any parachute. Unless you are just inept, JerryBaumchen
  17. Hi Zig, Think Rock Charme' (sp?) who had over 14,000 jumps and a low cutaway got him. JerryBaumchen
  18. Hi Jim, Close but no cigar. It was originally the Yanta Ejection System. I met Steve Yanta about the time he was trying to license this system. But he had recently been fired from Guardian Parachute ( a subsiduary of FXC Corp ) and since he had a 'no compete' agreement upon his employment with Guardian, he could not do anything in the parachute business for three years. This prevented him from licensing/or selling the rights/design/etc. When Guardian found out he was trying to market his design, their legal dep't. sent him one of those NastyGrams to cease & desist. He then put me onto Chuck Embury who was marketing as the Your Escape System. And so the story goes . . . . . . JerryBaumchen
  19. Hi Matt, As I said, and will continue to say to anyone in the military, your time in service is all the payment I need. JerryBaumchen
  20. Hi Arvel, Security used the system designed by Jerry Myers, as shown on your rig in the photo. It was the Y.E.S. system turned upside-down. The neat thing about it was that most everything went away with the risers when you cutaway, leaving very little to snag/grab. I do not remember what Myers called. JerryBaumchen PS) Anyone remember what the Y.E.S. stood for?
  21. Hi Mark, Nope, it was not Dan. He was blond dude that moved from Sheridan up to Issaquah, but I do not remember his name. His wife ran a sandwich thingy at Issaquah. He had a lot of ideas but most were rather nutty. I remember Jim Lowe telling me about flying one of his crazy ideas up for a test drop and damn near crashing the airplane in the process. Ah, the good old days. You did get the name of the device right. JerryBaumchen
  22. Hi howard, Probably a Curtiss TravelAire taking off from Issaquah. Mt. Rainier in the background. JerryBaumchen PS) I did not look but have the edge, I've jumped it.
  23. Hi howard, Yup, now I remember it. Last I saw of Patmor was at a competition at Antioch in Spring '71. He was jumping an original ParaPlane, the little one. I heard that he got into hang-gliding and set some type of world record somewhere out in the California desert. He did a lot for jumping back in the '60's. JerryBaumchen
  24. Hi miller, Might I suggest that you go to a library and check out 'From Here to Eternity' by James Jones. Then look in it for the song 'Re-Enlistment Blues.' JerryBaumchen ex-USAF (ain't gonna make that mistake twice)
  25. Hi Morrison, Working from memory here so take with a grain of salt. I seem to remember that wall recepticles that are GFI's have two buttons. Try the 'other one' first and then try the RESET button. Hope it helps, JerryBaumchen PS) I don't like wall recepticle GFI's .
