Hey peckerhead, Do you remember the poster showing the naked girl running in the stream with the rain coming down and the title: OREGON STREAKERS ARE WET BEAVERS I loved that one, JerryBaumchen

Hi hudson, This is not a direct answer to your question; but, last year I was at Performance Designs and was informed that their Sabre II is their best-selling canopy. They did not say what was in second-place; but second-place was FAR FAR behind the S-II. Just something for you to consider, JerryBaumchen PS) And I think that PD sells more canopies than any other mfr.

Hi faulknerwn, Nope, it came about because, at that time, Booth would NOT license his system. Then, later, some folks (think DJ) began providing just the hardware parts; this (I think) allowed people to get around the patent (or was it 'patent pending'????). JerryBaumchen

Hi Frog, For people just wanting to get started into sewing with 'E' thread I can recommend Singer 401A & Singer 500 machines. They were classified by Singer as 'heavy-duty' machines. They are home sewing machines. Put in a 'jeans' needle (as in bluejeans) and they should handle 'E' thread quite well. They will do a straight stitch and a zigzag stitch. These machines are VERY hard to find and are no longer being made. I am currently using a Singer 500 for things like pilot chutes, some work on reserve bags, etc. Hope this helps, JerryBaumchen PS) If anyone comes across one of these machines it would be worth it to buy it and resell to someone or post on here where to buy it.

Hi Zig, Very nice. I hope you 'land' somewhere you can call 'yours' once again. JerryBaumchen -
To All of You Infinity Owners: Can anyone of you shoot me a photo of a rig with an RSL and the protector (last) flap open so that there is a good photo of the RSL system with the ripcord cable? Thanks in advance, JerryBaumchen PS) Send the photo to: jerrybaumchen(at)verizon(dot)net

At least you pronounced it correctly. JerryBaumchen

Hi hackish, And if you were to read the policy completely ( and understand it ) you would probably find so many exclusions that they ( the insurers ) would never pay out. JerryBaumchen

What's a better analogy for Wuffos?

Hi steve1, Isn't it Dave DeWolf who says, 'Well, I tried brain surgery but I messed it all up.' JerryBaumchen -
Hi every, I once asked my insurance agent about this ( I had about 75 rigs at my house at the time ). He said that they ( the owners ) would have to rely on their own insurance, if they had any. I think that a fair number of jumpers do not have insurance. JerryBaumchen

Hi Terry, Many years ago I was reading something (I can no longer remember just what exactly) but did find that Australia used NAS 804 for their test standard (that is the referenced standard in TSO C23(b)). I would 'suppose' that today they would use similar (i.e, later standards such as the AS 8015's) test standards; but I do not know for sure. Just have not needed to know, JerryBaumchen

Hi BIGUN, If memory serves me correctly, the 'AirForce' canopy was a reserve made by Parachutes Australia for civilian/sport useage and is not a military canopy. It's the name that is confusing, JerryBaumchen PS) If no TSO label = no TSO

Hi steve1, Well, as you can understand, Elevator is no longer a kid. He is flying somewhere in Africa these days. He's probably the best pilot I've ever had fly me, JerryBaumchen

Hi howard, I remember when that story/photos came out. I thought at the time, 'Well, that is not correct.' Why, because they have/had Fortenberry in a SuperPro or so rig (high mount reserve attachment). When he was jumping the gut pack would have been mounted on low D-rings; and when he won the World Championship ('64) he was jumping a Crossbow harness/container. Just good eyes and some nit-picking. Hi Andy, I agree that it is very rare; and quite often the gear is not in a condition to determine (i.e., goes in with nothing out). However, this is how they got Ted Mayfield (sorry but I do not remember the actual charge that he plead Guilty to; it was reduced from something like Negligent Manslaughter). I know this because I had built the rig (for an experienced jumper and it was being used in a SL-configuration for a 1st-time jumper) and I testified before the Grand Jury. The rig was built as a PullOut and Mayfield merely hooked a static line up to the bridle between the pull-out handle and the closing pin(s). JerryBaumchen

Hi up, I recall the very first ParaPlane coming out in '68. I jumped one at Issaquah in the summer of '68. JerryBaumchen -
Security Parachute Co. Sierra
JerryBaumchen replied to ParaShoot's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Hi darkwing, You have it correct. It was Security's answer to the smaller canopies; Piglet, StarLite, etc. JerryBaumchen PS) By then Security was just chasing trends rather than setting them; this (IMO) what lead to their demise; oh, along with the change of ownership that ran them into the ground. -
Hi peckerhead, Yup, you are correct. Well, off to the store for some more of those damn Memory Pills; but they seem to not be working. Or am I getting them mixed up with the Viagra. JerryBaumchen

Hi faulknerwn, That is an Altitude Shop rig, known as the Top Secret. The Classyfler came later. JerryBaumchen PS) Yes, the release was developed because Booth would not license his 3-ring system. Security licensed it from Meyers and used it on their rigs, also.

Hi nanook, I was not disagreeing with our helping them. I am all for that because, IMO, it was the human thing to do. It just struck me as JerryBaumchen

Hi mickle1, Every drop test I have ever done with a dummy ( no human or other type of input ) under a square ( and that is NOT a lot of them ) the canopy turned downwind. JerryBaumchen

Five Good Samaritans stopped a rape in progress
JerryBaumchen replied to warpedskydiver's topic in Speakers Corner
Howdy, I'm from Oregon. When I saw him on the news, I thought 'Jeez, he must have really resisted. Too bad.' That is just my personal opinion. We do have capital punishment here in Oregon. The only two people who have actually been executed since it was re-instigated have been the two who voluntarily stopped their appeals. Most recent newspaper articles state things such as it will take, on average, about 17 years of various court proceedings to actually execute someone here. I am not trying to offer this as any type of comment, just some info on how things go here in Oregon. YMMV! JerryBaumchen
