  1. Hi Hille80, Look here: http://www.buschassociates.com/viewproduct.php?item=13&itemname=N52WHK%20-%20Military%20Prints I don't know how to make it a clicky, Jerry
  2. Hi Vic, Been awhile, how you doing? Jerry
  3. I wasn't jumping in '59 but I 'think' that the Diamond Track was there almost from their very beginning. I know it was there in '64. Jerry
  4. As I remember ( I was not there but had friends who witnessed it )the GK went low on a Style jump, pulled the reserve w/o doing anything else ( this is what I would do ). The reserve pilot chute & bag launched, the canopy came out of the bag upon snatch and stayed in the pack tray. He was killed upon impact. It was thought, at the time, that the rubber '0' rings had caused the bag 'dump' and that is what got Para-Flite to develop the Safety Stow. Jerry
  5. Back in the '50's Art Linkleter had this daytime tv show. About once a week he would interview little kiddies. He asked one kiddie who he liked riding with better, Mom or Dad. The little kiddie said "Well, with Mom we never see any of those bastards." Jerry
  6. I really try to stay out of things here (SC) but this is a hot issue for me. If men could get pregnant we would not be having this yea/nay discussion. Jerry PS) It all starts with the loss of one small liberty, and then . . . . .
  7. Hi peckerhead, That is Stan Wood in the white jumpsuit & Jay Gile (in Photo #3) in the black jumpsuit. Long time jumping buds, Jerry PS) Nice photos except one is a little fuzzy, hold your head still!!!!!
  8. Hi Billy, Nope, just regular folks like everyone. Whenever I was spotting a load there I always fudged it a little into town; I'd rather be downtown on my reserve than in that water on my main. And, yes, I've been in that water; it is VERY cold. One year I was spotting the first load of the weekend and it was total scud at some unknown altitude so we just jumped into the plane and tookoff. We hit the scud at about 1800 ft (maybe) and the other 3 guys were crapping their pants about getting out so low. So I just said 'Here's the plan.' I lined the pilot up just lightly below/into the scud, told him to stick the nose into the air and start climbing, I estimated the time and exited about 2000 ft; took about a 7 sec delay so the other guys would not have to open close to me. Came out of the scud into a perfect spot. Some days you just got to suck it up and go for it, Jerry
  9. Hi howard, It is Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach, Oregon. I've done many a jump there and at Seaside, OR on the (now defunct) Annual Beach Weekend(s) (although I am hearing about someone getting it going again). Jumped with Tom & Keith many times; Keith was my 'instructor' on my first jump. I've known Keith since we were both 10 yrs old and in the 5th grade together. Jerry
  10. 6 1/2 yrs to get a BS in Mech Eng. There was no money in my family for college. I worked part-time, went to school part-time & tried to have a life part-time. It was worth every day & dollar it took. I'm now retired with an income of over $50K/yr; it has finally paid off. Jerry
  11. Hi jackwilson, I could not remember if the armed robbery conviction was in '70 or '71. He did not do anytime for that crime; suspended sentence. The '77 conviction was for interstate transportation of stolen property (the airplane) and he did about a year at McNeil Island in the Puget Sound area (a federal prison). He got himself assigned to the garbage truck detail which allowed him outside of the prison to go dump the garbage at a local landfill. Then Lenny Aikens would go out to the landfill a little earlier and hide a jug of booze that Ted would smuggle back inside to share with folks. Jerry
  12. Hi paulagc, Make sure it is washed pea gravel. Otherwise, you get pea gravel + whatever, sand, etc that they might not have removed when it was seperated. Oh, and make sure it is pea gravel; some places like to sub crushed rock or anything else that they have on hand. I would suggest going to your potential rock supplier and see what he can provide to you. We built a pit back in the 60's without getting washed pea gravel and after a rain it was almost like concrete. Jerry
  13. Hi vpozzoli, It does if it is in the contract of the sale. I used to be a Technical Manager of contracts for the US gov't. We had 100's of pages of 'terms' that had to be complied with. All completely legal once both parties sign the agreement(s). Just look at the waiver that most dz's use, lots of terms of agreement. Jerry
  14. That is exactly what I noticed. Stay away from those birds, Jerry
  15. Hi tdog, It has been done, you just need to get an FAA-type who is willing to listen to your story and be in your corner. You will not be able to sell them to others, though. It would be a one-time thing for the owner only. Jerry
  16. Hi skyjack, Let me disagree with you on this. And one does not go to jail in a civil litigation matter. Ted has been convicted in both federal and state courts. He has served time at least three times, or so he told me on a trip we did back in '02. I've known him since '64 and made most of my jumps at his dz's. I just NEVER sent a student there. And a prudent jumper would never go on a demo he organized. Jerry PS) In his defense, he is the most optimistic person I have ever known.
  17. Back in the '60's there were a number of C-170's (yea, I know not C-172) that hauled 4 jumpers all of the time here in the great Northwest. The Issaquah C-170 had most everything taken out; most any instrument not needed for local flight, the battery (no electics, prop start), etc, etc. It was a full-on effort to reduce weight and fuel useage. Jerry
  18. Hi steve1, He still lives in Sheridan but does spend winter-time in the Tuscon area; his new wife is from that area. He has spent more than one turn in the pokey, though. Jerry
  19. Hi skyblu3, As Beezy said in a up-post, this will shorten your brake line length. But it should not be very much. Redo your knot and try things out. Then adjust as you feel you want to. Jerry
  20. Met Emil many moons ago at Beaver Valley; a crusty old fart if one ever lived. He gave a lot to skydiving in his part of the world. Jerry
  21. Hi Terry, Thanks for the info. Did you point out that the skydiver mains should have NO TIME LIMIT or did you point that the Tandem Mains should have the time limit? I would prefer that main canopies not be regulated in any manner by the FAA; after all, they do not in any manner regulate the design, performance, etc. Just my thoughts, Jerry
  22. They were twill fabric, I've seen the fabric. When my ex-wife was a little girl she had a doll with a dress made from the canopy one of her uncles used in a bailout over Europe in WW II. For some strange reason he brought all the way back to the US after the war. Jerry
  23. Hi stato, One of the best posts ever. It should be on the wall at every dz in the world. Jerry PS) Ain't it the truth.
  24. Hi sundevil, At the PIA in Reno someone asked Derek Thomas how much to retro-fit a SkyHook to an existing Jav and he said "$2298. Send us your rig and we'll send you back a rig with a SkyHook.' Jerry
