Hi kikkoman, My fix-it guy says that I am connected directly to the modem ( which I knew ) & the router is in the modem. That was one of the things he thought it might be but he checked out the modem/router and says that they are OK. JerryBaumchen

I am having a problem with my computer. I am getting a little window down in the lower right corner of the screen that says: LOCAL AREA CONNECTION A network cable is unplugged. This window will pop-up every 2-5 seconds for 2-5 seconds at a time; or it may go 10 minutes without popping up. The last two days I have had a computer fix-it guy here for over three hours so far and we know that it is NOT a cable problem. But, as of now, he is stumped as to the problem. We tried a new internet card but that did not change anything. This problem will slow down anything I am trying on the internet and has really effected my email. This morning I was trying to send a simple email and it took me over 5 minutes of continual trying; that is not an exaggeration. It also has enough interuption to prevent me from updating my virus protection automatically ( AVG ). I am running Windows XP & just updated to IE7 a little over a week ago. This problem has been here for about 3-4 months now. So any thoughts? Thanks, JerryBaumchen A computer dufus PS) I tried to post this a few minutes ago & when I did a Check Spelling it locked the computer up and shut it down. The lockup & shutdown may not be related to this Connection problem. PPS) If anyone needs more info just let me know.

Need Opinions on AAD, Time for my replacement
JerryBaumchen replied to eddietude's topic in Gear and Rigging
Hi Phree, Not true. They say something about some future maintenance/whatever when they get to the 20-yr point. But they are a long way from that 20-yr point. Both the Vigil 1 & 2 are NOT DEAD at 20 yrs. JerryBaumchen -
Hi guppie, That very thing ( no ocean breezes though ) happened to me in downtown Los Angeles in '78. Myself and a co-worker were having coffee at a Dennys and a number of cop cars pulled up outside and drew down on the building across the street. I told the other guy to 'Hurry up; we're out of here.' JerryBaumchen PS) Oh, did I say we left in a hurry?

Difference between standard RSL vs Skyhook
JerryBaumchen replied to regulator's topic in Gear and Rigging
Hi human, I'm going to try to give some answers without ( hopefully ) stepping on anyone's toes. The Mirage DRX system ( IMO ) is a reworked version of the Eric Fradet/French design. I have some photos of some of their early R&D on this system. But I have not seen their finished (?) version. In the past Eric has kept me informed on his working with them on thier system. But I have not heard anything new in a long time. From what I know (?) the DRX will not infringe upon the Skyhook patent. Also, from what I know (?) none of the 'other' designs infringe upon that patent. HTH, JerryBaumchen -
CHEAPERTHANDIRT.COM RIG SALE
JerryBaumchen replied to SKYWHUFFO's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hi twardo, Those snaps or a version thereof have been around since the '60's. I first saw them in photos taken during international competitions, used by the Eastern bloc countries. Just so you know . . . . . . . JerryBaumchen -
Difference between standard RSL vs Skyhook

Hi Tom, Well put, we do need to assist the new folks all we can. However, my 'do a search' was directed at GLIDEANGLE and not the OP. GLIDEANGLE has been here ( this site ) for quite some time. And my comment to him ( poorly written now that I look at it ) was as regards the TSO certification of these devices. I try my best to never be negative about anything on this site but I learned a long time ago that I am not perfect. JerryBaumchen -
Hi Michael, Donut is in the mail; with the Canadian Postal System you may see it in 2010, JerryBaumchen PS) Good work, thanks for the email.

Hi Cygnus, Bingo! I spent 30 yrs working for the federal gov't in QC Programs ( along with other work ). I first came across ISO in 1978 while in Italy on a project. I thought this was a great system, finally a system that would be accepted world-wide ( we were have problems in this area ). A group of us were assigned to look into this ISO 'thing.' Our conclusions were exactly as you state: We can make garbage as long as we document the process and follow the process that we document. IMO, it is a lot of money for very little. But if your customers require it ( the US military for example) then you get it. Just my old two cents on this, JerryBaumchen

Difference between standard RSL vs Skyhook
JerryBaumchen replied to regulator's topic in Gear and Rigging
Hi GLIDE, I believe that you are understanding wrong. Do a SEARCH for more info on this, JerryBaumchen PS) The contract that a mfr must sign to license the Skyhook details out the testing that the patent holder requires. Not the FAA. -
Yes

Hi BV, Interesting & timely post. I went to the same barber for well over 25 yrs. He finally retired last Sept; he is 80 yrs old. He was the best & the conversations were even better. He put me onto a new barber. Twice now the new guy has butchered my hair; I don't think he listens. He gets one more chance and 'Sayanara Bubbo.' Damn-it, I miss my old guy, JerryBaumchen PS) Re: The new look; the bottom line is if YOU like it or not.

Hi jimmy, Your 3-ring system has no FAA certification. JerryBaumchen

Hi Shlomo, The old engineer in me finds this interesting: Their tolerances could result in the cables being equal length & being acceptable; i.e., 5 1/2" + 1/4" = 5 3/4" & 6" - 1/4" = 5 3/4" Strange to me, JerryBaumchen Edit to add: PS) I would make the tolerances: + 1/4" -0", I think most people could hold those dimensions.

Hi Baron, I agree completely! When I got divorced I became the single-parent of two teenagers. I put them both through college ( my money only ) and my son through law school ( again, my money only ). There are times when I wonder how nice of a car I could be driving or how much larger of a house I could have with that money. But it was definitely worth it. Heck, my daughter now makes more than her engineer husband. You just have to decide what is important & what is not, JerryBaumchen PS) One benefit is that I now get free legal advice.

Hi mama, I 'only' have heard this one: Can't Understand Normal Thinking OK, now where's that flamesuit, JerryBaumchen

Hi skittles, I would strongly recommend that you get this change completed. 1. It will keep your rig at a 'state of the art' condition. This will help in any future thoughts of selling it. 2. I believe that the kits are free NOW. May not be free in the future. Your choice, roll the dice & see what comes up, JerryBaumchen

Goodbye "Skydiving Magazine"?

Hey Robbie, Where in the hell you at these days? Haven't seen you in years. Gile & I get together for lunch every now and then; you should join us sometime, Jerry PS) What's this KLAWOCK garbage for a location? -
Hi Phree, I tells ya, the older ya get, the faster time goes by. My apologies to the OP, JerryBaumchen

Hi Teigen, I do not believe that the photo is of a Jav built in 1999, unless the rig has been updated. They only started doing the tucking in of the upper reserve flap a few years ago. I would suggest some caution on this purchase. Just my thoughts, JerryBaumchen
