  1. Hi paul, Therein lies the problem I have always had with this type of 'test.' I'm an engineer who also worked in a hospital as a young G.I. Every medical tool comes in numerous sizes. The real skinny is to determine the correct weight to be used and then run the test. Anything else is just guesswork. JerryBaumchen
  2. Hi darkside, I 'think' that those type were used on some Para-Flite canopies back about late '80's - early '90's. But I could be wrong, that was some time ago, JerryBaumchen
  3. Hi sherm, Back when I was still working I used to have to go to the federal prison at Lompoc every couple of years. I always preferred to stay at Fess Parker's Red Lion in SB. It's quite nice but a little spendy. It's a nice area; and if you have some time, give Dan Poynter a call as he lives in Goleta. He can tell you about the 'old days.' JerryBaumchen
  4. Hi 69, I have always thought of the film THE ENDLESS SUMMER as being one of the all-time great films. After Steve McQueen saw it, he talked Bruce Brown into doing a similar film only about motorcycles; i.e., ON ANY SUNDAY. JerryBaumchen
  5. Hi chiquita, When I got my 42" I just hooked it up and got a poor picture. So one day I called the 800 number and they told me to input the HD channels; I was inputting the analog channels. Give it a try, made all the difference for me, JerryBaumchen I'm not much with this electronic stuff
  6. Hi Justin, Yup, it has a pouch but I have NO idea if the pouch will work for you. The owner ( not me ) says its yours if you want it. Give me call tomorrow or whenever: Cell) 503-481-4714 or Home) 503-848-7805 JerryBaumchen
  7. Hi Justin, I've got a Jack The Ripper here. Give me a jingle if you're interested: 503-848-7805 JerryBaumchen
  8. Hi howard, I'm Ok with that. On another subject: would you drop me an email so that I can get back to you? Something not related to this website. Thanks, JerryBaumchen
  9. Hi howard, Before we can determine when the first comm. center opened we should define the term 'commercial skydiving center.' AFAIK, there were people charging to train jumpers well before Orange opened it's doors. This is not to belittle what Istel & Sanborn did but it does make one wonder about the 'first' comm. center. Admittedly, when Orange opened it was waaayyy ahead of any of the others in it's facilities, training methods, etc. JerryBaumchen
  10. Hi all, When doing your Christmas cards this year, take one card and send it to this address. If everyone sends one card, think of how many cards these wonderful special people who have sacrificed so much would get. When you are making out your Christmas card list this year, please include the following: A Recovering American Soldier c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center 6900 Georgia Avenue,NW Washington,D.C. 20307-5001 JerryBaumchen
  11. Hi guppie, Call ahead and make arrangements to take a tour of Strong Enterprises. JerryBaumchen
  12. Hi Kelly, And I think it was a guy named Dan Abbott who developed the first piggyback rig, in '63-'64 time frame. Now if you only want to consider modern looking piggyback rigs; then lets give the credit, where it belongs, to Troy Loney for his Centaurus rig. JerryBaumchen
  13. Hi soviet, It seems to me that people posting are talking (typing ???) about two different things. 1. What condition are your lines in? Are they frayed, wearing out, loose fibers, etc? 2. Are the lines dimensionally correct? These two situations are not directly related to each other. You may have a lineset that is still well within the necessary tolerances for good openings & canopy flight yet still be very much in need of replacing. Conversely, you may have a lineset that still looks very good but is so far off dimensionally that you should get a replacement. I suggest that you have your rigger inspect the lineset for both conditions and then he and you can make the proper decision on what to do. Also, remember (depending on where you are located) that the winter is a very good time to get your gear in tip-top shape. Hope that this helps, JerryBaumchen
  14. Hi air, Well, since I started in '64 my thoughts are that with the passing of each decade more & more women were/are jumping. The increasing improvements in the gear might just be what is doing it. jeanie McCombs was not what I would call a 'soft & cuddly' female, JerryBaumchen
  15. Hi darkwing, +1 Besides, who's to know? JerryBaumchen
  16. Hi Andre, One more time: A rigger cannot make a reserve ripcord no matter what the material is. Only the TSO-authorization holder may make a reserve ripcord. Now, with the possibility of a Spectre-line reserve ripcord, it 'might' be possible for a rigger to replace the line under his rigging license, but as a rigger I would not do so. And I do know that there are quite a few riggers in the field currently making reserve ripcords; all of them illegal. JerryBaumchen PS) I hold a TSO-authorization for a ripcord; anyone wanting one can contact me. Shameless plug.
  17. Hi Squeak, Nope, the Voodoo is TSO C23c Category B & the Mirage is TSO C23b Low Speed Category. JerryBaumchen
  18. Hi Andre, A ripcord is a component requiring a TSO-authorization to legally make. Unless some rigger holds a TSO then they should not be making ripcords ( USA is what I am referring to ). Just my thoughts on this in the event some riggers want to go out and buy the 'goodies' to start banging out ripcords. As to the pricing of repacks; well Bill V disagrees with you but I would like to make that much. It is all about what the market will bear; at least that is what my experience has been. JerryBaumchen
  19. Hi riddler, When I read some of the writings of Thom. Jefferson I am not so sure he was not an athiest. BTW, I do consider him the most intelligent Pres. we have ever had. Just my opinion though, JerryBaumchen
  20. Hi david, A true story: Back when I was still working I ALWAYS took my birthday off. I shared the office with another guy who's birthday was the day before mine. One day as I walked into the office, the secretary said 'Happy Birthday, Jerry.' and I said that today was not my birthday, today was John's birthday. Just at that moment John walked in and I asked him ( rather loudly ), 'John, did you get your birthday present yet?' He turned beet red, lowered his head and just kept walking. JerryBaumchen
  21. Hi Kelly, I have been informed that there are, apparently, some emails going around claiming that we stole this idea from Eric Fradet. To Whoever is Doing This: Be a man and put your claims out in public so we can refute them. Otherwise, you're just a sleaze-bag without ethics! JerryBaumchen
  22. Hi skydiverek, No. This system is from the evil mind of Kelly Farrington. I have one of Eric Fradet's systems on a rig here at my home. I have also been emailing him continually for over a year on these systems. Does this answer your question? JerryBaumchen
  23. Hi format, ***preapproved manufacturer's What is this term you speak of? JerryBaumchen
