  1. Conservative, White Male, Democrat from a Mid west state. Anyone pop into mind?
  2. Would that be the resilient system that gave him a second term? Hedge your bets.
  3. That and more. We need a good, swift, kick in the ass. Trump is impenetrable. The only hope is waking up some of our Congress people and Senators and best of luck with that.
  4. Singapore owes more per person than us and can afford awesome food courts and clean streets. National debt isn't a bill divided up after dinner. It isn't great but it also isn't such an immediate thing that aggressive and indiscriminate whacking in all directions is the best solution. The idea that innocents must suffer en masse because we'd never get enough money to service the debt by fairly taxing the morbidly rich shouldn't be made unless first the morbidly rich were fairly taxed as a matter of fundamental fairness. That should be step one not putting them in charge of raping the middle class to get even richer.
  5. Well, you are right of course and it should be obvious. NATO needs to dump us as a member and send troops to Ukraine now. All members need to put down the worry beads, stop spinning the prayer wheel, and start demonstrating with action and checkbooks what all must now know to be true: the US can no longer be trusted with any nations security or secrets and we do in fact have a willing Russian asset for President.
  6. Hope in one hand and crap in the other and it was a slam dunk which would fill first in our last election. Maybe in some future where we actually had a smart 1/3 of the electorate such a tactic might make a difference but now wasn't it.
  7. Speaking of pacifism, I forgot to tell you I discovered the firing pin mechanism on my BRNO grenade launcher actually works. It turns out that when you break it open to load you need to hang it just so and the pin falls into firing position. The things you don't learn in school, right?
  8. Absolutely. That said they likely would have looked elsewhere for inspiration had they known George Washington wore yoga pants. Talk about woke!
  9. In your country a minority party can win seats and possibly more. Here, not so much. Here it's more like the leaving the bay leaf out of the spaghetti sauce as an experiment, as if the end result wasn't already widely known. Whatever my voter registration records state I am an independent voter, absolutely. In truth, most Americans haven't a clue what being a Republican means now or meant before this new conservative label which they also have know clue what it actually means. Democrats somewhat the same but less so, I'd say.
  10. That is the word. USAID, the Peace Corps, and privately funded NGO's (the ones not secreting bibles under the floor boards) and similar organizations are how to win hearts and minds. Of course, the small scale brutal slaying of local assholes who disagree with the approach is always desirable just to keep the peace.
  11. Now that we can agree on. And that is why we were dumb to fight a ground war with divisions of soldiers when airpower and small groups of dudes like you were the best solution to what was even marginally solvable.
  12. Both of which were ideas doomed from the start. The problem is, was, and will continue to be that in either country it was never going to be a festival of competing ideas winning hearts and minds and ultimately coalescing into a wonderful, western, (read Christian) and peaceful society. Nope.
  13. Of course they do but it seems to take religion to fire up a nation for selective salvation. Sadly, we know that those things can not be solved with war no matter how offended we are. Now that we are here, those things go on around the world and are prevalent in America, too. How do we choose where to send our troops and to whom to send our hopes and prayers?
  14. No. When all else fails, as it has, there's always getting gosh darn mad. In my view, the purpose of our military is to defend our interests. You appear ready to call issues of morality that offend Christian sensibilities legitimate US interests for our militaries occupation. I'd stop well short of that at somewhere near harm to US citizens and economic interests be it at home or abroad.
  15. And I used to believe people who saw Jesus on grilled cheese sandwiches had overactive imaginations. Please show me where sending our military was envisioned by the framers as a necessary response as opposed to, say, holding our breaths, simply deploring it all, or maybe imposing economic encouragements.
  16. I've thought it through, it's you who are missing the point you yourself made. 70/30 is a ridiculous success rate and even that I don't buy. Of course there is horror in the muck around the world but our constitution isn't the authority for sending our military to fix it, for the most part it's religion and it's attendant moral imperatives. We are simply in total disagreement on whether we ought to be spending our lives and treasure sending our military to fix social injustice in other countries and whether our constitution is the justifying vehicle. Peace.
  17. Jerry, As you know for 15 years we have proudly flown a spread of huge feather flags in a Rainbow above our spectator area that is visible from all roads and neighboring houses and businesses. The only thing we would change is if larger flags were available. I am super proud that all of my staff and jumpers are in full support. Joe
  18. Thank you kindly for the insight into you. People like you, in particular, confuse me. You are both learned and smart naturally but seem to have, I don't know, blind spots? You know, the same sorts of ones we shitlibs have when we are trying to understand our conservative brothers, sisters straight and gay alike. You are worth listening to, for sure, but I am often of the opinion that you think all of us who lean differently are simpletons.
  19. You might not have me pegged. Just because the US, or any nation, can assemble special forces to go in support of any insurgents anywhere or to topple an offensive government anywhere in no way means we should. I think some time back you argued about protecting female rights in Afghanistan or Iraq as a justifiably noble cause worthy of US efforts and sacrifice. It is not. Nor have been any of our miserable failures at nation building. Yes, we should send our special forces in to whack bad guys and stop horrors from continuing but only when the exit strategy is clear and not long in the future. That you would offer up Article II, Section 2, Clause 1 as the legal and constitutional basis for such actions seems more of an imposition of personal values than legal ones.
  20. Oh, so hegemony and nation building to protect the interests of citizens in other nations was a vision of the framers? Good to know. Now I can be further at peace knowing that all of the tax dollars I've paid and my employees have paid over the 40 years I was building my little business's to pay for our military to be out saving their rights went not for naught.
  21. Where is that in the constitution?
  22. Here's the entire sentence: "However, it is just words written down that don't mean a damn thing more important than those in any Dr. Zeuss book if it's adherents, and in particular our elected officials, don't willingly and selflessly conform to the ideas in it." If anything, instead of cherry picking to make an aggrandizing point, you might just think about my point: the people you have been voting for don't give a rats ass about your allegiance to a document and they are proving that out loud every absurd day now with their words and actions. So what were you actually serving to protect, the documents or what they stand for? You know, equality, unalienable rights, all religions not just Christianity and on and on.
  23. So that's it, if you haven't spent 20 years in the Rangers your voice is functionally quieter? There is more to unpack in your statement then I think you understand. No matter, thank you for your service but please understand it gives not an iota of additional weight to your political views in the civilian world. Also, do please rerun the tapes here to notice that my objections to today's so called "conservatism", and protest voting, has nothing to do with increasing my advantages and everything to do with wishing less harm on others.
  24. Hope in one hand and don't vote in the other. The problem is that too many are too slow on the uptake to see down the street much less around the corner.
