You can't honestly believe that. No, wait, the scary part is that you probably do. People can be treated like adults when they start acting like adults. Sadly, in this sport there are those who don't. Somebody can claim they're ready all day long but do you really think it's wise for someone to get their hands on an elliptical at less than 100 jumps? On a canopy wingloaded, say, 1.8:1, at less than 100 jumps? (There's a nice post in the Incident's forum about this one) People who make those choices not only endanger themselves, but the people they share the sky with. My Stiletto occasionally opens with closed end cells, but it's always symmetrical. What are you doing to the nose when you pack it? On mine, I leave the nose alone and just quarter the slider and have fantastic openings. Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

It also helps to practice, practice, practice. At my DZ, we're faced with crosswind landings a lot of the time, due to the way the experienced jumper landing area is setup. I've done so many, in so many different types of wind strengths, that I don't even worry about it any more. As for downwind landings, I've done a few as well, intentionally, so that I'd know how to handle them if I had to do one. I started with mild winds, and worked up to about a 10-12mph wind. Of course, I always have my landing area picked out by 1000' and I constantly practice flat/flare turns as well. Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

Going to a smaller canopy will probably increase the rate of turn, if it's the same type of canopy. However, when you increase wingloading, the recovery is generally longer, not shorter. Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

Uh, yeah. Hang on...Joe says it was the one that came with it; not an add-on. I'd almost guarantee you have bad video memory. Your best bet would be to disable the onboard video (if you can) and pick up a cheapie PCI video card from Best Buy or Wal Mart. -

Well said. And to think....I thought the Battlestar copy of Boomer was going to throw off her Cylon ways and become one of the good guys. Man, I didn't see that one coming at all! BSG is absolutely some of the best written TV out there. I have a friend who hates sci-fi that has even gotten hooked on it due to the way the characters interact, and the fact that the technology isn't the main star of the show like it is in Star Trek, etc... John used to jump at my old DZ and to hear him tell that story was absolutely priceless, including the bit about them driving to getaway and find a hospital to drop him off at in the process. Funny story....a buddy of mine and his father were jumping out of a casa. The buddy was by the exit, and his father was going to run out the end after a large RW group left. The group exited so he starts running. The plane pitches from the exit of the large RW group as he gets to the end and he gets smited by the ramp, lays there a second, then rolls the rest of the way out.
