    AAaahhh...finally!

Pammi & Merrick, I am really glad that you two were able to make it out to the DZ and get a couple of jumps in. We were starting to worry that we wouldn't get to see you guys again.
  2. I live just outside of Oklahoma City so that's part of the problem, the other part is that I am the main person teaching the FJC at my home DZ (Oklahoma Skydiving Center) and I don't have my backups trained yet so it's still a little hard to get away. Hopefully after March I'll be able to get to SDD twice a month because I really need the airtime from 13K and some good freefly coaching. Don't get me wrong, I love working with students at my DZ but I love being able to do jumps with more than 4 people on them, too. I really try to get out to SDD when I know Brandon Chouinard from my home DZ is going to be there because he is always good for some kickass freefly coaching.
  3. I have always psycho-packed the Stiletto's I have jumped (the 6 year old demo and my brand new one) and they have both opened beautifully. The only mod I make is that I do not roll the tail or it will open too slowly. I quarter the slider & pull it out over the nose a bit and I do nothing to the nose other than make sure it is symmetrical. The only thing I do for the tail is exactly what is shown in the video on Precision's website: I pull the ends to the opposite side (crossing them over each other) to make a perfect triangle. Then I jus' fold her in thirds, roll it up and put it in the bag. Gentle 400-600 foot openings (real, not perceived) every time. Kris
  4. Which only proves my point that I have to get out to Skydive Dallas more than one weekend a month, if only for the kickass beer. sniff.... Ziegenbock! Sniff... I think I need a kleenex for my tears now. Kris

    frankenotter

Hey! I know someone who was the first skydiver to have sex in that plane! Hmm, where is Mike Farmer anyway? Kris (evil laughter ensues)

    Vibrating Dytters

Actually, get me a vibrating egg, one of the dytters with the LED output and about $15 worth of parts from Radio Shack and I can make you one, ladies.
  7. You wouldn't happen to be the one that I complimented on her kickass yellow & purple Mirage that she put her first jump on last weekend, would you? I think that's a case of BEER! But you did say that you brought the Bass & Newcastle. Too bad I couldn't stay to drink it. I was the big Mexican guy with the purple Mirage and purple & white freefly suit that was on the same load as your first jump with your new toy. I'm not sure if that was the hybrid dive load out of the caravan or not. Hmm, time for me to start remembering things again... Sorry, I've got this thing for purple & had to make sure you knew it. Kris
  8. Hmm, let's see what I spent in 2001: Mirage UNISYN, Stiletto, Tempo & Cypress (All new): $4150 New freefly suit: $240 Bonehead: $180 USPA renewal, BIC & JCC/ICC: $175-ish Jumps at other DZ's: $500-ish Jumps at my DZ: $0.00 (I love being staff! Sorry, had to throw that in

    Pro-Track

My Pro-Track has been going strong for over 18-months on the first set of batteries and I can count the number of weekends that I missed jumping on two hands... Luv' my Pro-Track! Kris

    where did they go?

Hola JT! Yup, how could I forget that dive? That was definitely "The Load That God Forgot". BWAHAHA! That was my 100th jump but #200 is right around the corner... Hurry up and get yer' ass back to the USA. Kris
  11. Heh. When we're short a jumper to fill the Cessna I'll let ya' know.
  12. If it makes you feel any better I had a 24" ZP Cazer with a monkey fist on my old Sabre 210. Never even hesitated, always deployed cleanly. Hell, it also softened the opening like you wouldn't believe but it did have a 32" F-111 on there before... One thing about the Cazer pilotchutes I've noticed is that they are incredibly well made. Mine put up with a lot of abuse before I sold the rig and it still looked and performed like new after 100 jumps. Kris

    HELP!!!!

You might also check to make sure that you haven't blown out a crossport. Just a thought... Kris
  14. Confirm with a rigger first (of course) but check into the non-toxic dry-erase markers. That's what I used to touch up the colored stitching on my old rig and what I used to dye the Spectra line on my power-tool flap-closer. I have even gotten that Spectra wet several times and it hasn't faded more than two shades and hasn't rubbed off onto anything else. Kris
  15. Nope, not the easiest way to do it. Like the guy earlier said, get both people out and onto the step, preferably at a bit of a diagonal. If you try to pull someone out the door there's a pretty good chance of doing some damage on the step or some serious scrapage on the side of the door (how Pammi's Mirage got shredded). If you absolutely have to launch someone from the door have them get at least one foot out and when it is time to exit they need to make sure that they pivot out of the aircraft. It will be much smoother with less chance of a mishap. Jus' my $0.02 Kris

    where did they go?

I saw Freaksis at Skydive Dallas yesterday (Saturday). She was looking good, having fun and thoroughly enjoying her demo Lotus. I would also like to give props to Freefly/Rigger John, Robert, Adam, the Zogster and the person who's name I can't remember for an absolutely SWEET hybrid dive we pulled off on Saturday. I also learned a very valuable lesson on that jump. Don't jump with the sniffles... I deployed my Stiletto and as I was reaching up to collapse the slider and throw it behind my head I realized I couldn't see out of my right eye. I took off my goggles to see what the problem was and realized that a runny nose in freefall is a really nasty thing. Just thought I would share that visual with everyone.
  17. Our DZO goes to Costa Rica several times a year on vacation to visit friends but luckily myself and the rest of the lead staff have a set of keys to the DZ and when he isn't there it's business as usual.
  18. In ours we can do 6 including the pilot. It's a wide-body with STOL kit & wing-tip extensions. The thing takes almost no space getting off the runway and I can't remember the last time I heard the stall-buzzer. Hell, I think I've almost even forgotten what the buzzer sounds like. On a JM load I'l usually have one student next to the pilot, one behind the pilot and two in the back along with me in front sitting on my knees. Kris
  19. Heh, thanks. I am actually. Still waiting for my head to de-congest but hopefully I'll be good to go for next weekend. And becaue you're such an animal lover, Pam, this pic's for you! Kris
  20. Nope. You can use the Raven 282-M. It's rated to 297 punds at sea-level. Kris
  21. Heh. Unix, the only User Hostile OS. Kris My machines run: Linux 2.4 kernel IRIX 6.4 XP
  22. When I went through my JCC/ICC the first thing the instructor told me was to watch out for the large girls with the tiny ankles. I never thought about it before but it's true as they tend to damage their ankles more. Now when I have them in my class or if I am helping gear-up students I make sure to put them on at least one canopy size larger then they need just in case. Kris

    gypsy moths

I have seen it on Ebay before, you might check there. Kris
  24. Hmm, I guess I made old hand and almost didn't notice. I swear the monkey had nothing to do with it. There was no spanking involved, especially if you are with the ASPCA, PETA or PBS. Okay, I'm loopy from the cold medicine (NyQuil, the nighttime sniffling, sneezing, runny nose, how the hell did I end up on the kitchen floor medicine). And the fact that I'm on call and my cell phone is going nuts isn't helping either. I'm done rambling. No, I'm not. Okay, now I am. Kris
  25. In all fairness, I only decided to post that one because it was a long time ago and I have heard that April's landings have gotten a hell of a lot better since then.
