  1. Clay, Phree...is it just me or does anyone else think someone has risen up to try and take the famous NippleBoy's place in the skydiving trolling hall of fame? Kris Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

*Kris looks at his Petzl climbing harness, beaners, dynamic line, and figure 8's sitting in the corner of his room* *Does some thinking* *Rubs hands together in evil glee and smiles* Thanks for the idea! Kris Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
  3. Yup, and people also fail to realize that the government of the United States isn't a democracy either. We live under a Federal Republic with democratic values. Kris Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
  4. Don't forget to pick up this fine religious lithograph as well. I reccomend a fine wood frame for this beauty. Kris Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
  5. Nope, 4. You forgot the bridle mate point on the container flap to allow for the "idiot-length" after the curve pin. Kris Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
  6. That's kind of the point. Now, on to the other person who asked why have two, there were some really great answers. Here's another tip: Use two different models (preferably different brands) if possible. If something falses / fails to trip one of them, the other should hopefully still work. Kris Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
  7. Chill Winston. From the angle of the shot it's obvious he just had the rig like that to show the PC distribution in the pocket. But you do raise a good point. Kris Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
  8. 1st Sunrise Load:4:lots We had our Christmas party at the DZ and it was very nice. So were the Red Bulls w/ Vodka. I also won one of the awards my DZ gives out each year: "The Helen Keller Spotting Award" for mine and SabreDriver's CRW attempt that failed last summer. Let's just say that it involved a many-hour overland hike to get back to civilization. This was definitely the weekend for shit to go wrong and oh-so-right on my jumps. First jump of the weekend and my slider gets stuck over my toggles. Yes, plural. Both sides. Can't move the slider up or down. I had new lower control lines put on my Stiletto and the rigger took off the 725 I had and replaced it with 1000. It was thick enough to cause trappage. I finally got it cleared at 1200. Otherwise, it would have been rear-riser flare time. Learned a new method to stow the excess and it works quite well. Got to go on my first sunrise load this morning. Mat Zog was able to actually rouse me from my stupor on the couch at 6:45 this morning. I grabbed a smoke, grabbed a diet Coke, hit the mouthwash and put on my gear. To describe it as phenomonal would be a serious understatement. Going to the Cessna I kept thinking, "I've seen sunrises. I could be in bed right now, dammit! It's 30 frickin' degrees! Can I knock Mat unconscious and get away with it?" When we were at 5000 feet those thoughts left my head as "it" happened. Suddenly, thousands of flares started to erupt on the ground below as the sky started really pinking up. It was the reflection from all of the ponds and lakes that surround the DZ. As I was cranking my jaw back into position to get it off of the floor this thin band of light started getting stronger on the horizon. Wider, brighter, warmer as the sky turned from midnight, to indigo, to cool blue. The sun then rounded out and started climbing for the sky. The visual of that will stay with me for the rest of my life. We were at altitude and I called for the door and opened it, expecting to get instant frostbite, I was shocked because we were smack in the middle of a really warm inversion layer. It had to be at least 15 degrees warmer at altitude than it was on the ground. Me, Mat and Cody launched a perfect exit for a 3-way sit and we ended up with 2 docks each on Mat. But, sadly, my luck wasn't to hold. After I released my PC my Stiletto started to snivel above my head when I heard the sound. sssssSSSSSSSSSNAP! TWANG! It sounded like a guitar string broke and I was diving towards the planet with 2 line twists. For the second time in two years I had stowed the left toggle above the keeper ring instead of below. The upper fabric toggle stow was shredded on the side where the control line was facing. I popped the other brake and undid the twists. Luckily, there was some wax-thread and the right needle at the DZ. I sewed the keeper back on 20 mins after landing. And on the next load your's truly, aka: SkyBuddha, managed to float on a freefly dive with two light-weights. Hell, I even left early and I still couldn't get down to them. The laws of physics were definitely tweaked today. All in all, a truly enjoyable weekend! Kris Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
  9. Nonsense. I've done it numerous times. You can psycho pack a canopy without the extension but the problems you run into are: 1. If you use a kill-line PC it can be a struggle getting it to stay cocked. 2. You risk possible damage to the top-skin of the canopy. When you psycho pack, the ring on the canopy that prevents the d-bag from hitting the canopy is inside the roll instead of at the grommet on the d-bag. The bridle extension will allow you to pull the bag around without distorting the tail and will make it less likely that you will grab any fabric when the d-bag is stripped off of the canopy. If I want a fast (not hard, just quicker) opening, I just fold the tail over and make a triangle. If I want a normal opening, I roll the tail once I have my Stiletto on the ground. Since the canopy is now lying on the ground tail-down and nose-up (opposite of how it is laid down for a PRO pack) I can easily grab both edges of the tail and put a few rolls into it. 10. Only if they're running HAL-9000 on the back-end, and then only if they upgrade him to Linux. Preferably something in a 2.4 kernel. Geez, I'm such a geek. Kris (Off to play with my SGI Octane before going to bed...) Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
  11. That's it...go ahead and shatter my comfortable beliefs in evolutionary science. Whew! And I thought I was the only one. I have accepted Google as my personal savior. Kris Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

    Lasik

If nothing else, get an opinion from an optometrist or opthamalogist. Some of the Lasik centers will have free exams to see if it will help, but then again, I doubt the Lasik center would qualify as un-biased. Kris Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

It's not like anyone is going to be licking your eyeball or anything.(heh) Actually, a friend of mine had this done about a month ago and went from 20/400-ish to 20/25 vision. The only real downside is that a large number of people will be somewhat night-blind for several months afterwards and will see "halo" effects during that time until the vision stabilizes fully. You will be conscious for the procedure but it's less than 5 mins per eye and they will give you lots of Valium. Kris Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

  15. When I was at Skydive Dallas last weekend I noticed that RiggerJon had made a lot of different altimeter mounts for the freefliers there. He had wedge mounts for the mud-flap and I think I even saw a couple of hip-mounts. Pretty cool stuff. Kris Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
  16. Unfortunately, no. The shots I saw were in an album passed around my old DZ. I'm glad that you got to at least meet him, though! Kris Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
  17. That was probably Bob Clark from Oklahoma. Him and his wife Judy are about the two nicest people you will ever meet in your life. He's also one of the best freefall cameramen I've seen. Some of his still pictures are absolutely breathtaking. Kris Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

Haylee, since you're at Skydive Houston, grab Brittany and ask her advice or get a coach jump from her since you're both tiny. She would have a lot better perspective on your issue since she's already "been there, done that". Kris Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
  19. It is with great sadness that I have to report that I have just PM'd Betsy to tell her to take me off of the list. We have a couple of priority projects that have come up at work and I will be spending the last week of December travelling to various locations performing site-surveys for LAN installs at new company locations. On the positive, I get a week of extra vacation for having to give up a planned vacation so I will definitely be at Mardi Gras, Rantoul, Perris Valley in May and Raeford around March / April. Have fun, don't stop the nig-noggery, and on new years, get toasted for me. Kris Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
  20. Definitely sorry to hear that you are loosing such a great office-mate. But the comment about you was spot-on and it was very cool of him to exprss it to you. Kris Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
  21. I am truly saddened that nobody has contibuted this one yet: Army of Darkness Bruce Campbell is the B-Movie master. Kris Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
  22. Yup, I forgot about that one. I always pull the tail up and then roll down. It helps keep the other fabric from getting rolled into the tail, it keeps the lines to the center, and it makes for a better tail-roll. Kris Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
  23. That may be true (never met him), but he's a dork that can pilot a canopy at the virtuoso level and I never tire of seeing his skills on video. Kris Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
  24. That actually worked for me, but without all the hand-reaching requred on the ground. Mary, it's also very important to focus on how the air "feels" on the different parts of your body as you move. Feel where the pressure is at and how it interacts with you. Another good tip: Don't try to crank out a 1-second cartwheel. Take your time, make it slow, keep your awareness of what is going on and how it feels (there's that word again) when you do it. After a few of those with no problems you'll be able to turn it into a snap transition with no sweat. Kris Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
  25. C'mon, Kristen. You know you like cute, cuddly kittens like the one on my avatar. It just eschews that "family pet" vibe, doesn't it? Kris Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
