I don't think there's much doubt that some things are more addictive than alcohol. There is the issue of individuals being responsible for themselves, and there's another issue of responsibility for society at large. That, unfortunately, requires governmental interference into our personal lives sometimes. Sometimes we disagree on what constitutes an action that is harmful to another. I don't think schools should be in the business of providing children's value base. That's what parents are for. (Unfortunately for many kids the values they learn at home are pretty piss poor, and hopefully they'll get something positive from their schools.) Schools should provide children with a useful knowledge base. The reproductive system is smack dab at the center of basic biology. Hard to avoid teaching about human sexuality if we're to learn science in schools. BUT the two (teaching abstinence and providing sex ed) aren't mutually exclusive. I don't think it's a school's job to teach abstinence myself, but if they do I don't think my child will be scarred. When my grandmother learned that my college tennis partner was from Texas, she was truly worried for me....don't know what she thought was happening to my soul...lol. I really, really, really like skydiving, and I wish I could do more of it. I wish I were in a position to throw myself into it again and excel. But even more than skydiving I love being a mom. I love my job even though it takes up SOOO much time. I love my BF and the fun things we do together besides skydiving. I love bicycling. I love camping and hiking and riding my Harley. I love going on night walks....and last night night bicycle rides around town. I love playing backyard baseball with my son or shooting pool with him before guitar lessons. Most of those things I can do with my son, which is a bonus and often moves other activities up on my priority list....and unfortunately skydiving down. And then sometimes the house does have to be cleaned.... Even though I don't jump all that much, I still consider skydiving a very important part of my life. I don't understand what's so disturbing about what he's saying. He's stating the obvious. Maybe he's going a step further and suggesting that something good might come out of a pandemic? Still nothing to get your panties in a wad over. I think statements like "Humans are no better than bacteria" probably gets some folks upset. I do think it's a ridiculous statement, even if there is a little darkish humor in it. If he were advocating taking steps to cause a pandemic or, as another poster suggested, ceasing to treat illness, then I'd see something worth arguing over.
