Since midnight I got a young girl the rest of the way through DKA, out of ICU, and into a private room on her home medication made multiple trips to CCU where my patient in heart failure, liver failure, kidney failure, and with pancreatitis and pneumonia has been trying to succumb, but hasn't yet and seems to be doing better finally (ummm...he came in this way. I didn't do it to him). Talked to that guy's family throughout the night. Stopped one guy's pain with drugs . I'm his favorite doctor now. Spent the wee hours of the morning with a Guillain-Barre patient and his family discussing treatment options, and only relieving his pain minimally so as not to further compromise his respiratory status. Helped another man poop. I might be his favorite doctor now too.... Took care of a couple more of my patients, but didn't really do much for them. Took care of a little boy with a sprained ankle in the ER and of a young woman who was afraid she was having a heart attack. Now I'm post-call, and for the next 45 minutes it's all about ME!!!!! Then I'll go pick my little boy up from school....and it'll be all about him until bedtime. linz -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. I jumped a Raven II for my first 75 jumps or so. Good thing too, because even though I started off strong, I sure screwed up a time or two too. I wouldn't recommend anything so obsolete and gargantuan as what I had, but it's really nice to have your bones unbroken and joints intact. I wear some kind of strange fiber mixture....whatever scrubs are made of ....nearly every day. It's kinda fun to think of myself as a threat to public health....lol. You can find all that is wrong and fight to get rid of it. You can find all that is right and try to strengthen it. I think at any given time we have some of both. I would have instituted that policy by snatching the phone off her head and crushing it under my foot while wearing a "have you completely taken leave of your senses?" expression on my face lol....temper, temper....let's not let it flare....heh. I think if I just had a home phone and no cell phone, I'd probably answer it more....like we did in the old days. So if she were to speak about Women's issues at a NOW meeting, would that also be pathetic? Or would it be pathetic if she reminded women that it wasn't that long ago that we weren't allowed to vote....or of a time when we "belonged" to our husbands? What about if a person speaks at the VA about Veterans' loss of medical benefits as a result of a previous administration's policies. Is that playing some card or another??? Playing the race card. If she speaks publicly about an issue that is important to her, why is it playing the "race card?" If a person is a proponent of Women's issues and speak about that, then are they playing the "gender card?" What about religious issues....or gay rights? Playing the "queer card?" When I buy used gear, I always wait until I can get it cheap. What's the deal with people expecting to get what they paid when they sell their new gear????? Yes. To what you said. I think it's silly to think that a 3 year old is going to think...."Oh, I could be injured if I run after my ball." It's just not part of a young child's thought processes, no matter how many times it's explained, if her ball rolls out into the street. Maybe there are a few really bright children for whom that might work. But a swat on the bottom, used sparingly, will remind your child that you are particularly serious about the lesson at hand. Sparingly is important, though.... I mostly think that the "shouldn't spank your children" movement is a pendulum swing in the opposite direction, and is no more right than the "children should be seen and not heard" movement from the 50's. I got to the gym whenever I can, but otherwise I BICYCLE! Gotta put in a plug for my little boy. My 8 y/o has been wanting to ride with me. The other day I took him on a 15 mile bike ride along some pretty stiff hills. He never complained once....except when we were just around the corner from the house he said (in jest of course...lol), "Mom. I'm tired. We're gonna have to turn around and go back." Now he wants a road bike. Trek, Orbea, and Felt have some nice junior sized road bikes.
