Did he issued an order to disarm all law-abiding citizens or did he issue a law to disarm all citizens? Big diference. Why is there a big difference? People who are breaking the law usually have weapons in their possession confiscated anyway, don't they? Does the mayor have the authority to take away people's guns? If he did not have the legal authority to do so, then he should be held accountable. That's not an acceptable infraction. That's about as relativistic a statement as possible. Aren't there some things that are actually right, and wrong? I think there are some things that are actually right and wrong in a black and white kinda way. So help me out here, I don't see how these can be squared (and its not like its #31 & 32 ... it the first two!) ... if the soul is just a function of our imagination, then how does it exist in #2 to be referred to by a different entity? Or are you saying that you believe the soul comes into being (where from or created by whom just not stated) at some point of brain maturation ... ? I'm saying that I really don't know what the soul is, but my belief is that it's probably a function of our brain. I've never seen any evidence for a soul that is separate from the mind....a function of the brain. Their religious doctrine should be kept OUT of our laws.... Because our varying faiths are at the core of much of what we do and who we are, it's impossible to live up to that standard completely. In MY faith.... 1. The soul is probably a function of the brain....which begins to function in some capacity at 20-28 weeks post-conception. But we really don't know. 2. All souls are of equal value in God's eyes. 3. An aborted fetus is innocent. If it has a soul and if there is a heaven, and if by chance the soul is something other than a function of the brain, then it probably goes to heaven....whatever that is. 4.????? That's just too far from MY faith. 5. The mother who has had an abortion has been through something terrible. She should not be judged by any other human. The people of the Faith support her and help her get back on her feet. 6. All sin can be forgiven There are all kinds of faith. As usually Christianity promotes close-mindedness, thought control, and encourages bigotry, all while claiming it doesn't. In my experience Christianity doesn't promote that at all, but there are definitely people of the Christian faiths that do. I think it's important for schools to teach children what there is objective evidence to support.... When it comes to reproductive health, I think it's fine for schools to teach about birth control pills, and that they do NOT protect them from STDs. If teenagers are knowledgeable, then they can at least make informed decisions and not be left to guess. Combine good knowledge with a firm foundation from home, and kids may be equipped for choosing well when it comes to making difficult decisions. -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. The schools teaching your kids does not keep you from teaching them too. There are lots of things that my child learns in school that I disagree with. But he comes home to me, and we have OUR discussions. He understands early on that many things in life aren't black and white, and that sometimes we have to use our OWN minds and let our own beliefs evolve. I have no problem with my child learning to think for himself or developing beliefs that are different from mine. He's a bright kid, and I value his having the confidence to develop that kind of autonomy. Funny how the fetus is the parent's property right up to 'delivery', but then you should have ZERO say the instant after while big brother raises your kid for you. That's just silly. There probably is some subset of the population that thinks like this, but I think it's really, really small. The only thing a comment like that achieves is to get an emotional response. There is nothing wrong with churches organizing to push their political viewpoints (or their religious viewpoints in the political arena), but rather the onus is on public schools and organizations to NOT cave to the pressure of these religious entities.... Separation of church and state doesn't require churches to keep their viewpoints within their own walls, even though sometimes I personally think it would be better.... linz -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged.
