About half the time I get up at 5am....get myself ready, fix Jay's lunch, fix Jay's breakfast, run his bath water, get him out of bed....and leave the house around 6am to get to work by 7. Other days, like today , I'm able to sleep in until 6 and louge around a bit.... It makes up for all the 5:00 days. Then, of course, there are the days that I just never get to go to bed....like night before last....so there's not really a wake-up time. Having the next afternoon off doesn't make up for it, but it's sure nice to have a little mid-week time off. -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. I think that these kinds of questions should shurely be thought through and put down on paper before the egg is fertilized. Maybe this situation will be an impetus for people to do that. I do agree that they both created the embryos, but I also believe that he should have the right to say he doesn't want them used by her, for whatever reason. I feel that way only because I feel that it is right. The waters are so murky in a case like this that I think the lines will be drawn based on people's biases. I doubt that there's a way around that. In her case, she's gonna just have to take her lumps, it seems. Prefaced with "I haven't read the whole thread." It does appear that many of the left condone the actions of the anarchy kiddies, the attention for the sake of attention getters, and the wild-eyed ranters and ravers. Will you argue that the left hasn't made a pretty big shift to the extreme? That doesn't seem to be true for the right... after all they DO seem to be more in touch with the values of America... so it can't really be considered extreme. I don't think it's that people on "the left" condone her behavior as much as they value the right to free speech...regardless of how detestable the message is. Actually for me its even more strange but its really not a mistery. When in my worst shape I was 220 wearing 35's, fall rate was very fast then. Now at 230 with 33's, fall rate is unussually fast. I think I would be satisfied with 31's at 215. That way my jumpsuit would be so baggy from the waist down that it would have to slow me down. , 33's, 35's, 31's....Y'all think it's tough???? There's another part of this that has really surprised me over the past 8 months (intern year so far). You mentioned people with insurance over-consuming. While that's probably true, the people who "overconsume" the most are 1)people without insurance who use the ER as their primary care physician....so they never have to pay a bill and 2) people (and these may outnumber #1) who use the ER for a work excuse. It is absolutely unbelievable. You want a day off work, so you call in sick. Go to the ER that night when it's not so busy and get your work excuse. The numbers of people who bring their well children into the ER late at night saying "he's been crying" when the child is obviously well....are there for a work excuse. Well, I'm a bitch where that's concerned. I DO give them a work excuse....for the hour that they were in the ER. And their discharge papers say under diagnosis: "Healthy." There are lots and lots of healthcare dollars spent this way. It is so commonplace and acceptable to some that I've had a few people come in and actually TELL me that they were there for a work excuse. ARGGHHHHH!!!! I recognize that this is only a small, small part of a much bigger issue. I don't know what the answer(s) are going to be. In my experience, the direction that ones life takes is directly attributable to the person's actions and character. A good person...and even a not-so-respectable person... can make a lot of mistakes without seeing too many consequences. But honest people usually possess qualities that have them feeling remorseful for their dishonest actions, so they correct their behavior. By the time you're involved in corrupt activities to this magnitude, then I don't see how in the world such a person can be referred to as "decent" or "honest" ever again. I'm guessing it has something to do with the fact that he publicly stated it would be built on Roman Catholic principles, and that if he hadn't mentioned anything about religion then most people wouldn't have taken notice. But it doesn't sound like they are dictating anyone's religion or only accepting Catholics into their town (though I don't know why any non-Catholic would want to live there). I would prefer to see these people living in their own town with their own rules. That way they shouldn't have any reason to worry about what I'm doing where I live. What if the next town only allows families with women who don't work live there....or doesn't allow women to live there who choose to leave abusive relationships (because divorce is not acceptable)....How about communities where gays are only allowed in....or how about no blacks...or no whites....or only people in this or that militia....could go on and on. The comparison to the Taliban isn't far off, imho. If people want to have their little communities built on whatever ideals are important to them, I suppose that's okay. BUT they should receive NO public funds for anything except for the funds that they, themselves, generate. Doesn't mean they don't pay taxes. Not allowing people to live in a town who don't believe a certain way.....hmm. Utopia? I don't think so. From an academic standpoint I'd like to see what happens. I had a good friend in college who grew up at a place called Meadowcreek in Fox, AR. This was a community project focused on using renewable energy resources, self-sustaining agriculture, and having minimal impact on the environment. It was a funded project, I believe. I spent a lot of time there in college, and they always had good beer. :) Homebrew. Now this wasn't a town, but a little commune-type place just outside of a little town. They obviously owned the land, and nobody lived there who didn't do as they did. I don't know exactly how a community like this compares with what's being proposed in Florida. Of course it's a different group of people with different goals, but legally I wonder what the difference is. The problem will come when the people who move in have children who grow up and want to live in their home town....but don't believe the way their parents did. There's also a difference between "possible" and "anticipated". It IS possible that evil death-monkeys will burst from your spleen, but do you anticipate it? I suppose if there were "evil death-monkeys" working their way through my splenic artery, I might anticipate that they'd bust through my spleen....in much the same way that it might be anticipated that levees not built to withstand a hurricane like Katrina might fail during such a storm. -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. Ideally, honesty is what I'd want to be and to have from the people I'm close to. But in reality most of us aren't so emotionally sound that we can always take brutal honesty well or be honest in a way that is not hurtful in itself. So, in my mind...yeah honesty is good, but I'm not always totally honest, even when I'm trying to be, and I don't always want other people to be totally honest with me. You're absolutely right. He is a reverend. Which is why I said he's a qualified poster than can strongly debate for Chrisitianity. Oh, I think there are lots of people who can debate about Christianity...obviously. I just don't think anybody knows the answer to whether non-believers are going to hell when they die. Unfortunately some people do rely on the schools for this. But it doesn't have to be an either/or situation. The schools can teach about these issues AND parents can have the same discussions at home. There are a whole lot of kids that don't get any of it at home. And the exposure that many kids get is TO drugs/alcohol/sexual promiscuity. Education in the schools will at least give these kids some knowledge and (hopefully) direction that just might help them to make better decisions for themselves. linz -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged.
