I'm expecting a hurricane tomorrow.

Mikkey, I tend toward gun control more than most posters in this forum. I agree with you on the stats, and think that a less armed society would indeed be a more peaceful and safer one. The pro-gun lobby seems to base their argument on a lot of fallacious points. If people stop nitpicking details about particular laws (many of which are indeed flawed), and look at the big picture of our firearms policy, they would see that it clearly isn't working. Our crime rate just does not support the assertion that guns in the hands of average citizens reduces crime. There ought to be some form of compromise between the mess we have now and a European-style system that is probably at odds with some of the core values of this country. The problem is that there is an ardent and vocal minority that has no interest in compromise. I find it both short-sighted and selfish, but that is the stance they take. They tend to see it as a "slippery slope" argument, regardless of the fact that their stance is putting their lives and the lives of everyone else in jeopardy.

I agree. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But people can only tell me that mine isn't valid once they have died, been judged, and come back to tell me about it. I'll take my chances with my disbelief.
-
Great. Just great. Another freakin' hazmat superfund site that will only be cleaned at the cost of millions of taxpayer dollars.
-
Nope. I was having a friendly conversation with an Airborne chaplain one day when I was in the Army. He asked me if I prayed before I jumped. I replied, "No. God didn't pack my main or reserve". There you have it.

Same with mine. Yet you lump all people who aren't in favor of unlimited gun ownership is mis-informed anti-gunners. I was just illustrating the inaccuracies of such an approach. I'm more anti-crime than anti-gun, but in this country, the two have been linked for a long time. There are plenty of gun laws that make no sense, but also plenty of flaws in the logic of the general pro-gun lobby. Note that I didn't say you, I just said in general. However, this is an issue that has been beaten around the forums a nauseating number of times. I'll just leave it that we probably disagree...

>>Why does the general public need assault weapons?

Minor issues with that one. Okay. Now you are on to something. Religion is all about looking cool. I mean, look at cardinals and the pope. Their outfits are the shit! Sounds like a plan. You actually live right down the road from me. So do I hear call for a "Hurricane Isabel & Religion Making Party" Thursday night? We could drink some hurricanes and figure out who the disciples will be, and how they will honor us. (If I'm in at the start, I at least want something named after me too.)

You are a wise man, FliegendeWolf, a very wise man.

Correction noted. Didn't get to the profile. Sorry about that. Is your Alphabits religion accepting converts? Are the meetings short, or does the cereal get soggy in milk? This kind of stuff is important, you know!
-
Because the Bible leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
-
Actually, it is about on par with stating absolutes about God. You have your opinion of the world, based on a book. His is based on Alphabits cereal. Both are equally sensible. But his tastes better with milk.
-
Your opinion. I believe it is fictional. "The Little Engine That Could" is a great book that tells a great tale of triumph over adversity, with great lessons on honesty and perseverance. It is a fictional children's book, a modern day fable. The Bible is longer, with more amazing tales to hold the reader's attention, some sex and violence thrown in, but essentially a fictional work loosely based on a few events of questionably authenticity. It has lots of good lessons and morals, but it is the same, a fable.
-
No, it does not. Nor on the particular fiction literature in which they choose to believe or disbelieve.
-
No, because it doesn't fit and isn't even truth. That is the frustrating part.
-
In either case, it is not our country. And why do we care when it is one dictator and cronies versus another dictator? Why single on out for special treatment. How long has Castro been in charge of Cuba? What about the treatment of the North Koreans? Somali's? South Africans before the end of apartheid? Why did we not care then? I won't say it is all oil, but something is fishy about it. We have no right to arbitrarily and unilaterally decide the fate of another country. How would you feel if other people decided to do just that to us?

Regretfully changing topics from your "rhinocerous legs...battleship hips and thunder thighs" , are there night jumps on multiple nights, or just new year's eve? -
Well, now that we've finally gotten that out of the way....

No. You just need to read it.
