jfields replied to Viking's topic in The Bonfire
Nope. You have to come and visit to get them. That's the rule. Viking's tequila was an exception, because I wanted to be out of puking range. -

So you're saying its more of a wag then a "swing"? [science lecture] The period of a pendulum is: T=2*pi*sqrt(length/gravitational field) So... [/science lecture] Basically, Remi "swings" faster than a hummingbird's wings or the frequency of a quartz crystal in a watch. Geek! Go back and srudy... we werent missing you Evidently, you have been studying.

Kind of like a really, really short pendulum.

Talk about ridiculous thread drift. In a thread about "Bent Prop Girls", we have nothing but pictures of guys in uniform. This is just wrong! As a former Army serviceman, I'm all in favor of women liking guys in uniform, but please, please ladies. FOCUS! Where are more pictures of the aforementioned Bent Prop girls? Or even any other girls that may just happen to be in the Bent Prop?

Just the important things, Sunshine. Now, back to school work!

Hey HH, Couldn't you just slap a javascript on one of the pages to automatically pull and log the info? The code is probably simple enough, and there are plenty of samples around. http://javascript.internet.com/user-details/

Ethics and the Mini Profile? If you Spot Bogus #'s

I'd say that if people aren't comfortable putting something down, they should just skip it. It only becomes an issue if people are looking for some form of validation on skydiving advice posts, which people without jump numbers probably generally avoid. (At least the smart ones.) The skygod wanna-be's will get called out pretty quickly. People like Slappie (since you "outed" yourself already) should feel totally welcome to post, whether they jump any more or not. Having been around for awhile, you get the idea of who is real and who is trying to just portray the skygod image. I haven't ever seen Slappie giving bad or inappropriate advice to newbies or anyone else. No need to make things an issue if the person isn't misbehaving. Jump numbers are weird. People often use them as indicators of specific experience, which they aren't. Someone who has been big into 4-way RW since they started jumping generally shouldn't be giving sitfly advice. Freefliers shouldn't be doling out advice on RW big-ways. Etc., etc. Also, people progress at different rates. I'm a sporadic jumper, so a lot of my jumps are spent getting familiar with things over and over again. I don't have the currency to progress as fast as someone that got in my jump numbers in a single year. We may have the same jump numbers, but I'm not ready to do some of the things they may be comfortable doing. Whatever. FWIW, my name links to my full online jump log. People can judge for themselves. -
The only reason I was picking on Frederick in particular is because SpeedRacer lives there. Actually, it has become quite a nice area. I've been to his place and it is very pleasant and respectable. I just had to give him a little ration of harassment, that's all.

I'm all about Montgomery County, although I did live in PG for 3 years while going to Univ. of MD. Hello, New Carrollton. I was the only white boy on the block. Now I live in Aspen Hill, main stomping ground of the serial sniper. Yahoo....

Fredneck. I mean, Frederick... Oh, whoops. I know people that live there.

Oh. Computers. I saw your name and the title of the thread, and I thought you'd be bitching about getting a shot of penicillan.

We decided to first find out whether we are having a boy or a girl He also decided that he would be an idiot to announce it in this forum.
-
Yes, I have. My wife and I are having a baby next month. If it is a boy, I'll see another one performed. Ironic, coming from a medical professional. And my children get their immunizations too. I'm looking out for their well being.

Because he violated the law by failing to yield the right of way, and caused someone to die. If the dead motorcyclist was someone from your family, I'll bet you wouldn't want the man who killed him to walk away free. Holy shit. A specific issue and situation where John and I agree. The apocalypse may now commence.

Why thank you, professor. So the American Academy of Pediatrics does think there are potential medical benefits. They are just saying that they may not be sufficient enough to make circumcision a policy decision. They acknowledge the health benefits, but don't feel they merit a political stance. Fine. Why not drop the repeated (false) assertions that there can't be any medical benefit. You are contradicting your cited sources.
-
To compare a mutilating surgery that has no demonstable benefits with immunization is absurd. No national medical association in the entire world recommends circumcision for health reasons. None. Most specifically argue against it. The health argument is false. If you have it done for "cosmetic" reasons, how is that different from getting breast implants for your daughter or liposuction for your wife without their consent? While I agree with you in many debates, I think you are being selective in what information you accept on this one. There are health benefits, though they are certainly very minor. In your blanket dismissal of them, you are showing an emotional bias, veiled as scientific fact. If you don't want to have your boys circumcised, that's fine. I think you should have that choice. But people should also be able to choose to have it done, either for religious reasons, or for the health benefits. I'm certainly not arguing for any mandate or legislation on the issue. It should be the parents right to choose.

Lisa & David, What happened sucks for everyone involved. No question about it. I'm sorry you were witness to it, but glad your family pitched in and helped. Another factual take on that type of situation: My wife was in the car with her father when they got hit by another car. It was the other person's fault. They were going way too fast and I think that alcohol was involved. My wife's father was killed. The other person got a ticket, because it was their fault. They paid the ticket, and later fought (and won) in court, that they couldn't be charged criminally because they had already been cited, admitted their guilt, waived trial and been given a judgement (fine) by paying the ticket. Nothing further could be done because of double jeopardy. It was after that incident (when my wife was 16), that Maryland started changing their policy about giving tickets after accidents with injuries. Now, they don't. It preserves the rights of the victims not to just give the guilty party a ticket and call it done. It is better for the people to have to go through a short visit to the detention facility or police station. It isn't that big of a deal, when compared to the trauma they inflicted on others, even if accidently. The police should be courteous, and do their job as gently as possible in the type of situation where it wasn't intentional and the people are sad about it (and still in shock). But they need to follow through anyway. Sometimes it just doesn't seem right, but occasions like that are the reverse of the one my wife went through, where the person that killed her father got off with just a traffic ticket. Like I said, nobody wins. Hang in there.
-
I think all the tales of trauma are a little silly. Babies cry when you give them immunizations too. Should we stop that because it isn't a warm lovey cozy feeling? There are pros and cons to circumcision. Generally, the good outweighs the bad. It shouldn't be mandatory, but there isn't anything wrong with it. I really don't understand why some of you people are getting all worked up.
