I want to flex my 3 rings seeing how I am coming up on 30 days and I havent been able to find the teflon cleaner at stores. I do have a can of WD40....is that ok to use? or is the Teflon stuff a lot better to use? Low timers do listen. I am one of them. I just recently bought all my own gear and when I was thinking of buying it I consulted Riddler, DiabloPilot, DJan, Skratch, and hand fulls of other people. I would call up gear companies just to talk to the sales person and hear what they had to say about each and every little thing. I was told by a few who have seen me land and fly that I would be happy with a 190 and I would be just fine. What did I buy? A 210. The reason? Enough people, experienced jumpers spoke to me in regards to canopy schools, and skills. I am taking a canopy course here with in the next 2 weeks just to learn more. When I did get my gear I went to see Derek and Kelli and they showed me a lot about my new stuff. The good and the bad, what to look at , and what to keep an eye on. That knowledge is irreplaceable and I will always be grateful. There ARE low time jumpers who do listen. So please.....all you experienced jumpers TALK to us, and teach us...because without you a lot of us might not make it. If all else fails I am going to get my camelback and grab Dereks 60 and jump that......... Just to warn you. Premees often want to sleep in bed with daddy or mommy. I know my premee rig wanted too. Nothing like laying in bed at 3:30am doing handle checks, or PRCP's. Derek is right on man. No need to be rushing things. Get your first rig jump and learn. You may be into swooping and freefly but I have yet to see a DZ with gear suitable for these applications. Freefly is one thing, but swooping is a different game. I have seen 1000+ jump guys bite it bad on a swoop. You know the risks, but dont be dumb about it. If you knew what you were talking about then you wouldnt have asked the question. Does a firefighter ask how to give CPR? haha...peas or mud, what if you get both? I landed in the peas and my canopy landed in some of the worn out grassy dirt area. I let it dry then I blew it off with my mouth, and flaked it......now I am going to pack it up. Thanks for the help guys and girls. Oh odd question....we had a gentleman cutaway this past weekend and his main landed in a lake and sunk. It was retreaved but if a cloth towel and some water is no that good what about a lake filled with god knows what? Where does he go from there? Really? Its one of those compressed air cans with the little brush on the end for cleaning key boards of computers. I figured that would be a good idea seeing how we use it on 35mm films and other highly scratchable items. Thanks for the help....any other ideas or help? I have a Hornet 210 Main and I made a bunch of jumps this past weekend. The last jump I landed in the peas but my canopy landed in a section where the grass was really thin and it got some mud on the top skin, and a weee bit on the bottom skin up by the nose. What is the best way to clean it off? I figured I would let it completely dry then take a can of compressed air to it. Then with a damp terry cloth towel pad the area, and then it air dry before packing it up. Is that ok? Or is there a better way to do something like this? Packing for myself. Riddler taught me how and I made my first jump on my own stuff, and own pack job at jump #12. I checked and rechecked, grabbed, went through EP's about 50 times before that jump. It opened fine but has some line twists.....which I caused. Tip:When you pitch dont look over your shoulder and watch the lines come out, bag open, and chute come out. Bad things tend to happen. Most people do get turned off from obnoxious skydiver comments......maybe he was just heavily trashed, which in that case....he is still a skydiver. I agree with you that if a person makes a skydive they are a skydiver, but this individual seemed to not even care about the sport anymore, and only used his past jumping history to score with the ladies.
