No fruitcakes are allowed? Does that mean I can't board the plane? For many this holiday season, I'll bet they are relieved that Aunt so-and-so can't bring the fruitycake, but Parachutes not allowed!!! F*ck them!!! Just my $ 0.02... ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Fly the friendly skies...^_^...})ii({...^_~...

What makes a skydiver a skydiver? AKA be nice to the tandems
RoadRash replied to Brian425's topic in The Bonfire
I completely agree with Brian in terms of encouragement, kind words, and most important, a smile! -
OUCH!!!!! ::cringes:: Been there, done that... ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Fly the friendly skies...^_^...})ii({...^_~...

No offense, but I don't want what would sound like a phone sex hotline talking to me in freefall. For me, I would definitely want an audible with Sean Connerys voice telling me exactly what to do Of course, when I land, I want him to say, "Thanks Money Penny." (Shaken, not stirred...007 style) I would also recommend going through Unfeathered. They also offer specials sometimes, but I think that is usually in combination of helmet and audible. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Fly the friendly skies...^_^...})ii({...^_~...

Quotehmm.... advice.... 1. get in your car. 2. drive to the dropzone. 3. sign up for a couple of coach jumps. 4. get your radios 5. get on the plane. 6. get out of the plane. I'm with Nightingale! Being on radio is only a cushion and really shouldn't be depended upon. For example: I had been injured and spent months recovering and got back into jumping and had to wear a radio. On one of my coach jumps, the signals got crossed and I landed in corn (which is perfect for timing a flare, when it is fully grow of course ) After that incident, I told my coach he would have to PAY ME to wear that thing again, he laughed and said that I did ok...Relax, think, and get back out there. Have a blast!! ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Fly the friendly skies...^_^...})ii({...^_~...

First, condolences to the family. Second, I agree with everyone else, when your time is up, well, its up and there is not much you can do about it (actually, nothing you can do about it!) I have always said that you can die doing anything and freak accidents like this just proves it. You only live once. Carpe diem and all that jazz... ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Fly the friendly skies...^_^...})ii({...^_~...

How far do YOU drive to get your skydiving fix?
RoadRash replied to schattenjaeger's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My old DZ was 1 1/2 hours, but they closed down and now my drive is 3 hours thanks to Chicago traffic! The drive is worth it though!! Love my new DZ!!! -
I like my Pro-track for freeflying, but I also have a Skytronic FX that fits perfectly in my Z1 (considering they are both made by Parasport Italia, it should.) The FX is pretty loud, but I like the Pro-tracks features and would recommend trying some out before buying. I borrowed one of my coaches for a while and that is what convinced me to buy a Pro-track. What kind of helmet do you have? I know some of my friends have had trouble hearing audibles because of padding. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Fly the friendly skies...^_^...})ii({...^_~...

RoadRash replied to Vallerina's topic in The Bonfire
Hey, is this the Val that graduated from P.U.? Sorry about your camera!!! I'm afraid I couldn't make it to the party!!! My brakes gave out......and I was left carless for the weekend. EVERYONE PLEASE FILL ME IN AND SEND ME ANY PICS!!!! PM me with any juicy stories!!!! WAHHHHHHH!!!!:-( ~Bird -
I don't want to go Freudian on you, however, I believe this has something to do with a secret wish to be pied! Or it is a forecast of impending doom!Trust me, I have had some weird skydiving/DZ related dreams and so have some of my friends. One of my friends had a dream that she landed on the ground with only an inflated PC in her hand. Odd...You betcha!

I agree with sunny, I used a good portion of my savings this past season to begin freefly coaching. I did a bunch of solos, but when you have someone in the air with you that is not only a reference point, but videoing your every move, you can change bad habits and sometimes prevent them. I have improved way faster than people with twice as many jumps because I got the coaching. Find someone who is willing to be a mentor. Hell, offer to buy their jump ticket just to jump with someone who is knowledgeable and get some tips!

Dude, have you noticed while you are groping for peoples hands that they are saying at the same time or some time during all the "secret handshake"s to have a great skydive! This is just a way for everyone on the load to wish each other great fun and good times!!! Now if you are trying to hold hands with someone on the load, well, I go for the don't ask, don't tell... Just go with it!

I did my first head up at 18 jumps and right after that I worked on a bunch of tracking dives to get more confortable getting away from my coach and others on my FF jumps. It also got me hooked on tracking dives!!

Just some words of advice: First of all, as everyone else has said, breathing is really important, but controlling your breathing is even more so. What I mean is make your breaths slow and deliberate(count in for four counts, hold, then out for four counts, like yoga). Working with cool coaches helps...When I started working with my freefly coach, he made me relax and have a blast even when I felt like I was screwing up! Also, visualization is EXTREMELY important! FOCUS ON WHAT YOU ARE ABOUT TO DO!!! I swear, that is the only way I got through AFF! Most of all, just relax, you are doing this for fun! It is completely natural to be nervous, you are hurling yourself out of a plane! ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Fly the friendly skies...^_^...})ii({...^_~...

I know of people who haven't jumped because of an injury that was far less severe. If I were you, I would take a couple of weeks off. Plus, I have seen some people get nose bleeds when they have a cold and are jumping. Remember, it is better to be safe than sorry. Heal quickly!!
-
Just like everyone is saying, practice maneuvers. Also work on fundamentals of belly flying: turns, leg turns, loops, tracking, etc. Trust me, once you start jumping with others or freeflying, they come in handy and you feel waaaaay more confident!! Good luck!! AND YOU OWE BEEEEEEER!!!!!!!!!!!^_^

My club has a yearly trip down to the wind tunnel at Pigeon Forge. In terms of what you wear, it is "normal gear" in the sense that you wear a Protec and a big ass suit that we have dubbed the "Michellin Man" look. The air is ok, but not great. Don't expect to do any major maneuvers unless you have spent a significant amount of time in there. You will probably be on your belly most of the time. I'm not too sure how the coaching is. We usually had coaching from a guy who had his rating in the club. Hope this helps!!! I went through AFF in Lake Wales!! Definitely recommend dropping by. There are some really cool people there and rowdy parties at night. Then again, I have been dying to go to Sebastian, heard it was a sight!
