I agree, I have had several people close to me have abortions because they believed it was the right choice for them. If that is the case, then have an abortion. I personally use the pill and have in the past, but I would never get an abortion, and that is what is right for me. To each his own... P.S. I don't preach to others about not getting an abortion, however, I will point someone in the direction of Planned Parenthood or student health services in order for them to be informed of methods to prevent pregnancy and the possiblity of having to get an abortion. It's not just "her body." Review the pictures from post #5. until the fetus can support its own life functions it is absolutely 'her body'. I love how people call it a fetus, instead of an unborn child. That is opinion, not fact. The child is part of the mother, and may not be able to sustain life, however, the DNA and body is forming quickly, and the heart is beginning to beat. Most human beings don't form memories until they are several years old, does that make them any less human...or because a baby is part of its mother any less of a baby? Currently, these are issues that are being debated and hemmed and hawed about due to semantics and word choice. It seems as long as you don't use the name of something, then you may remain separated from it. The same concept apply to serial killers and their victims. As far as I could tell, you were looking for opinions as to why abortion should be legal and listed a bunch of reasons, no offense, but I have heard that a thousand times, why should you post it here? I belonged to P.O.W.E.R. and even VOX for a little while and all I found was the same information that you provided and a bunch of skewed numbers...(your guestimates) Yes, there would be more people in the world, duh...If you don't flush a million or so humans down the toilet, then yes, there will be more humans in the world. Oh, but this is a thread that is very much debating the issue of abortion. If I "misrepresented" your original post, then it was an issue of sematics and word choice that somehow led me to believe that this was yet another pro-choice or pro-life debate, that started from another thread that I saw you post in. Maybe you should answer a question for me: If abortion had been legal, and my biological grandmother had been given the option of an abortion, do you think I would be here posting right now? Ummmm I have to agree...Lemme put it this way, I wouldn't be posting this right now if my biological grandmother at the ripe old age of 16 had decided to abort my mother...so does that mean that my mom was "mostly unwanted" and so should not have been given the chance at life...... I personally am pro-life, in terms of what I would do if I was stupid enough to have unprotected sex (this excludes rape and any other extenuating circumstances). In terms of what another woman should do, well that I leave up to them, and in that way I am pro-choice...But I know of a lot of couples who were unable to have children and so chose adoption. My best friend from HS is getting married in June...I guess she was a "mostly unwanted" baby, but she was given a chance at life and has a degree in ME and getting a job at Boeing. There are countless stories of babies being adopted from teen mothers or even from 20-somethings who felt they couldn't provide a happy, healthy life for a child and so gave up that child for adoption. I agree...I have seen some people who changed their minds about abortion through speaking with people from places like Planned Parenthood...Do I agree with all their practices, no, but I do agree that they are trying to educate young women on safe sex and the prevention of pregnancy before the word abortion ever has to be mentioned. AggieDave, I'm like you, pro-life (for personal reasons), but dislike the fact that "religious extremists" run around scaring people to death, or actually causing someone's death because of their point-of-view. I have lived in a university town for 12 years and unfortunately, this is one of the most heated subjects that is constantly being discussed, and protested on both sides. Drives me insane, and after a while you just want to tell both extremes to STFU... ~R+R...P.S. My mother was adopted as a baby...I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for the fact that a scared 16 year old girl had given my mom up for adoption......That tends to sway one's opinion...
