What was your most expensive jump?????
dustin19d replied to Jethers203's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Well I cant beat that!! Most expensive other than first tandem was $120 for a recurency jump... -
So I meander out of my tent early and get on the first king air load. 6 tandem pairs, one camera, and me. Obviously Im out first. Everyone knows I'm a newbie so they wont let me spot, nor will they brief me on the uppers, or jump run direction(but I can tell looking out the window). The 5 minute light comes on, I do final checks and move to the door. The lone camera man on the load spots me then points and says "Go" . The second I jump I knew I was short. I tracked @ 45 deg from the line of flight. As soon as I hit the beach I tracked for the DZ. I made a mistake in pulling at 3500, I should have pulled higher. My options where a polo field full of horses(dont want to get trampled) or a 30ft wide streatch of beach with overhanging palm trees. The look I got from a lady on her second story balcony as I passed within 20ft was priceless. By the time I got to the nearest road there was a truck waiting for me. Then after I pack and go out to watch the next load pull I get to see a tandem pair cuttaway with a step through.(First cuttaway I've seen). Next jump, a 2 way track, we get out way too early. We exited at the same spot as the 7-way track we did the day before at 14,000. This time we exit at just under 9,000. We split up and both deploy at 3,500(mistake). We both end up in the polo field. Good thing the horses where locked up by this time. Then the last jump of the day I'm telling Dan who has 258 jumps to hurry up his pack job so we can make the last king air load.( I packed slopily in 1/3 the time) We planed on breaking off at 5000 so we could deploy early and fly around. So at 5000 I track hard for a few seconds the turn 90 deg so I can watch him deploy. We dump at the same time. I look up stow my slider, then look back at him just in time to see him chop his main. He went back into free fall for maby 3-4 seconds(FF suit was covering reserve handle) I follow his main around and watch where his free bag lands. When I finaly determined his main was headed out to sea I went back to the DZ. His main landed 100m from the beach.(all recovered) On top of that I'm as red as a lobster from this Hawaii sun. What a day!!

@ SD Hawaii because of the strong trade winds they always do a 180 deg turn VERY low. You here screams all througout the day from TM pasengers.

oh, this is also worth posting. today after a botched 4 way exit from the 182 with a trio of Marines that only had 20 some jumps each, I tracked away and had 8,500-9,000 feet to play with. I was wearing a "Tony" RW suit but decided to try my first sit. It was surprisingly easy to get into a sit but after a few seconds my feet would fly up putting me into a backflip. I tryed it a few extra times with my hands more beind me rather than to the side but the wind kept cathing my feet and throwing them up. The guys on the ground said it was the booties, so tomorrow im going to give it a try with shorts and sandals. -

Whoa.. The most damage I've done skydiving is skining my knuckles pulling on lines under canopy. But seriously *"Lesson Learned"* I'm learning a ton from guys that have ben doing RW since the 70's, plus I may just go hit up the wind tunnel in the next couple of days. -

Ahhh. another grat day.(5 jumps) Who would have thought you could spin up a Sabre 170 with to much toggle input. I myself spun it up today(3 twists) @ 800 ft. Lesson learned!!! I almost shit my pants, thank god im not flying a small eliptical! -

Reguarding the winds on a regular day. I can't say. All day today they where strong because of the storm system. Im staying on the DZ in a tent even thoug the gates close at 7pm. The theft is high on the North Shore so Id rather be locked whithin the airport. I did extensive searches about theis DZ's online and still didnt realize they had a tunnel. $40 for 3min of tunnel time. And it was never full, they where wandering around looking for people to fly in it. Both DZ's have a King Air, pluse several Cessna's.(182,208's) But you are right reguarding the closing time. If there are no more tandems they may do one more load of fun jumpers befrore shutting down. Today that took us out to 2pm, we did an all fun jumper load on the king air, then no one would go home so they sent up another.( I was there pushing both of them) But that was it. I've herd they jump until sunset only when they have a get-togeater planned. When they know up-jumpers will be there late. Good news* they open at 8am on weekdays and normaly have enough people to send up the King Air because of people on vacation that want to jump. Its 8pm hare and Im already manifested on the first load for 8am monday. Its no Eloy, but its cool... -

As a lot of you know its been 6+ months since my last jump. Well I flew into Hawaii yesterday and after a day in a hotel made it out to the DZ. The winds today where eratic and strong because we are on the tail end of a storm system. Because of this the S&TA didn't want to let me jump. But after a lot of begging and convincing him I have jumped in worse and never not stood up a landing he reluctantly alowed me to make my recurency jump. This was my first trip to altitude in a turbine(BEER), I cant believe how fast it was!! The whole trip up my instructor was saying "Dont scare me","do a couple of turns and show me you can be stable" So after a nice stable dive and some 360's Hes got the biggest smile I've ever saw. He gives me a signal to do a back flip, then a front flip, both pulled off with out a hitch. Then we both start flying around each other because where only at 9,000 with nothing else planed. Great view up here on the North Shore. So I pull, refamilerize my self with front riser turns then join the pattern. Stand up the landing right in front of manifest where my instructor greets me with a high five and a "Great Job". And to top off this awesome day I did 3 more jumps after that including my first (Beer) 7-way tracking dive where I stayed right behind the lead. Its so cool to look left and right and see people tracking togeather. On my third jump I told the guy I was jumping with to watch out for a bad off heading opening, because I packed in a hurry. Well at least I called it. My Sabre opened then spun up 3 times Great day great people, I think im going to stay here and not go back to Korea(AWOL) -

Not sure if they have a shower. Baby wipes will do fine. I have a tent to sleep in but am not bringing a sleeping bag because of lack of room. I dont care what the living conditions are, I just want to get the hell out of south Korea.

Only i n Italy can you hit another car while going .2 MPH through a Roman intersection. And only in Italy will someone fuck you. No damage to any car yet she would tell the rental company we rented the car from unless we paid her $200. Not a single mark on either car. And believe me, It was cheaper to pay the Bitch rather than face the rental company. Only in Italy can you find groups of Nigerians selling fake wallets, cell phones, and what ever they can dig up. And only in Italy can you find a lot of old bricks.... Been there done that
