Questions about bring a new cat into the house
Nightingale replied to skymama's topic in The Bonfire
My cat will spray, but only if something happens to smell like my ex-boyfriend's dog. He HATED that dog! -
It's very difficult for someone who is depressed to see outside themselves and give you a "return". If she can get some help and get on some medication, perhaps you will see an improvement.
-
I'd much rather have my dog than diamonds, any day! Diamonds are a GIRL's best friend, not a woman's. A woman is more mature than that!

The news stories indicate she did not have reconstructive surgery at the time of her mastectomy.

Questions about bring a new cat into the house
Nightingale replied to skymama's topic in The Bonfire
We just moved, but we heard there were 3 Rottweilers here before us. The carpet looks pretty new and we changed the padding for it when we tore it up for remodeling. My cat hasn't had any issues, so hopefully the new one won't. We'll neuter him regardless, but I hope he doesn't spray, that's the last thing I need! If he sprays, pick up a bottle of "Nature's Miracle" at Petsmart (or Petco). It's an enzyme cleaner that actually gets rid of the urine smell so he won't go back there again. It works really well. It's a bit pricey, but the other brands don't work as well. Also, every cat owner should know about the Cat Genie! -
What do they look like when cut open? (if I decide to take the step over the poison ivy with blue jeans covering my legs) This is a Costa Rican mango, but it'll give you an idea.
-
They're a little bigger than pears when they're ripe. Green ones aren't ripe.
-
Mango?

Well, According to Annie Leibowitz (sp?), he's a merman!

Lily petals don't curve until the lily is fully open, so you may have gotten your photos a few days earlier in the life cycle than the ones I posted, or there's another really similar looking lily.
-
I think you've got a Philippine Lily (but I'm no botanist) It typically grows over five feet tall and has large drooping white flowers, blooming in the late summer. It can have a solitary bloom or clusters.

Is he really being exploited, or is he being enabled to make a living where he would otherwise be dependent on his family and friends to support him due to his condition? Good question. Generally any form of entertainment that gains it's profits from other's misfortune is exploitation in my book. All Dede had to do for a living is to stand there so people can be disgusted/horrified for a fee. True, due to his condition he wasn't able to accomplish much else, his children were doing much of the work around the house, including feeding him. Is watching a documentary about him any less exploitative, then? We're looking, we're shocked, and horrified, but we're being exposed to the idea that other people are not always just like us.

Questions about bring a new cat into the house

When my cat has misbehaved and knows I'm mad (for example, when he wakes me up at 2 am by biting my nose and gets locked out of my room), he takes his fur/feather mice and lines them up in front of my door as if he's caught them all by himself! -

Young male KITTEN, not adult. Introduce them on neutral territory, like your mom's house. I introduced Ani to Indy at my parents' place, and then when I got them home, they were playing together with no issues at all. When you get the new kitty, go straight to the vet for a leukemia and FIV test. You don't want him to bring anything home that could make your cat sick. You may need to separate them for a couple of days (or weeks). Eventually, they will work it out. Don't force them to have contact. If your cat wants to hide under the bed and sulk, let her. Give the kitten his own area if necessary and let them sniff each other through the door. Make sure you give the bulk of your attention to your cat and pretty much ignore the kitten for the first few weeks, because your cat needs to know that the kitten isn't taking her place. Edited to add: Help your cat get more exercise. Put her food up on the counter or a table where she has to jump up to get it, and get some interactive cat toys (the feather on the fishing pole is a good one) and play with her for an hour or so. -
What a pretty girl! Talk the quality of life issues over with your vet. There may be some things they can suggest to help improve things for her day-to-day, and they can help guide you when it's time to let her go. (((((((Hugs)))))))

History is wonderful! I'm working on an AA in history right now. Try to take as many political science classes as you can as electives. Those will also serve you well in law school.

Hehe... Never record anything on film that you wouldn't want your dad to see.

If it was one of the analog ones that you zero manually, is it possible that you bumped the dial when you were in freefall?

There's nothing wrong with requesting another instructor for your next jump, if you want to. Getting experience jumping with different instructors and getting different feedback can help you learn. As the student, you're the customer, and it's okay to ask for little things that will help you learn. I requested certain instructors on each of my student jumps, for various reasons: AFF 1-2: Shelly, because she taught my FJC and I was comfortable with her. AFF 3: Raoul, my reserve side from AFF 2. I rode the plane down on my first try at AFF 2 (see my website www.nightingalesnest.net for the story there), and he spent a lot of time helping me figure out why and going over everything with me so it wouldn't happen again. AFF 4: Raoul, because I knew him already and he gave good feedback on my level 3 jump AFF 5: Shelly AFF 6: Kai, a very experienced instructor, and my reserve side for AFF 1 AFF 7: John, who was my TM for my two tandems AFF 8: Shelly, with Raoul on video. I picked Shelly because she'd taught my FJC and it was a full-circle kind of thing. The dropzone (Perris) had no issue at all with me requesting someone specific to jump with, although I'm sure it may have messed with their scheduling. It made me more comfortable as a student and it made my learning process easier because I was comfortable with my instructors at every step.

I got a pass on AFF 1. My instructor pulled for me, but I was trying to pull for myself. I kept grabbing her altimeter instead, because it was in the way. I'd be curious to know what the student's instructor had to say about why he pulled for the student. Altitude? or another issue?

I tend to have the opposite problem. I pretty much grew up around guys (all the kids on my street were boys, and my after school activity was karate), so when I say something like "I don't care." I really mean it. It's not code for "guess what's in my head." but most guys interpret it that way because I'm female, and then we have the "where do you want to go for dinner" "I don't care" "no really, where do you want to go?" conversation.

What annual income puts you among "The Rich"?
Nightingale replied to kallend's topic in Speakers Corner
1. No, I don't have that option. I'm admitted to the bar in California and no other state. 2. No, my Cali assets don't count because they're owned by the bank, not me. 3. No, I wouldn't be taking my income with me, because if I moved elsewhere, I'd make less money. Were you forced to choose CA? Even if I didn't choose California (and it was pretty much the default, since I was born here, my family is here, and my dad paid my bar exam fees for California and would not have done so for another state), and I went and paid the ridiculous fees to take another bar exam, I wouldn't be taking my income or assets to another state, because I'd be making less money and the bank owns my home. -
