Hmm... not half bad for being home sick and doped up on cold medicine. What'd I mess up on?
-
Tom if that were the case (and you're lucky as hell it's not) then virtually every bill would require a Constitutional Amendment due to parsing. The very concept of "that which is not specifically prohibited, is allowed" is almost unique to the US. It is, in fact, what allows people (and Congress) to do "new" things. From what I remember from my Constitutional Law classes... The FEDERAL government (executive, legislative, judicial) has enumerated powers. Certain powers are "reserved" for them by the Constitution, and some powers are shared between them and the states. Therefore, those powers that are not specifically allowed to them under the Constitution are not theirs. An act is only permissible if the Constitution says it is. The powers that are not specifically allowed to the federal government then belong to STATE governments or the people, which sounds closer to the example you were citing.

Thinking back on my brother at 16: Nope. Knowing the kid in question: Yep.

He was a beautiful boy! (((((((((HUGS))))))))

I didn't know that! Thanks!

People who think an apostrophe means "Look out! Here comes an 'S'!" and put it after every plural. I saw a sign in the grocery store that said "Apple's". Ouch.

Nope. I do, however, tailor my resume for the position I'm applying for. For example, my legal resume doesn't include my time as a teacher (it was pre law school), but my resume for the tutor positions I take to get extra pocket money does, but doesn't include my legal internships. Resumes are supposed to be one page, so you have to tailor them for the position. What you're looking at may not have been lies, if the positions and jobs listed weren't contradictory, just different.

Camarillo is a "high kill" shelter... that was NOT the place to take that dog! Since they turned her in, they might be able to get her out again for free. It'll cost any of us at least $125 to go get her now that she's in there. Personally, I cannot take another dog on permanently, but if JT wants her, I will find some way to keep her for a month, if someone can foot the bill for a vet exam to make sure she's healthy (I have a dog at home that I don't want to get sick) and for the plane fare for her to get to whereever he is. I just have no extra cash right now. If JT doesn't want her, tell the boys to get her out, and we will start calling rescues and eventually we will find one that will have a place for her. If they leave her there, the shelter will kill her. It's puppy season, and she's sweet, but not too cute, so an adult dog in her position in a pound is probably going to die.

First off, get your boys to take her in to any vet's office. Most of them have chip scanners. Someone may be missing her. Second, start calling rescues. This is the exact situation where they'll take an animal. Rescues don't generally like taking pets where someone already has a responsibility (someone is moving and wants to give up their cat...) but they will generally try to help out and find room for somebody like this little girl who has nobody, particularly if she's as sweet and adoptable as you say.

Exactly. This thread is probably not the place for what Amber should or shouldn't have done with Tucker. She is grieving over the loss of her companion. Let's try to show a little sensitivity and save those kinds of discussions for other threads.

Cheap cat food. Ugh. My usual policy for pet food is I read the ingredients, and if I wouldn't eat it (or at least consider eating it), I dont' feed it to them either. None of this "by-product" shit. Heck, my critters eat better than I do. I'll live on ramen before I'll buy a cheaper pet food. On the up-side, when there was that melamine scare, I didn't have to worry. =)

My cat's on Natural Balance, so there's very little kitty poo smell, but pre-cat genie, it always seemed like the box smelled like cat pee no matter what litter we used. After some research, I found out that cat pee can actually eat into cheap plastic catboxes so the smell won't come out no matter how much you scrub. With CatGenie, it all drains down into the bottom that's filled with the solution, so no kitty pee smell either!

You might have gotten it twisted in the blankets, or hurt it during the day and forgotten about it, and the muscles stiffened while you slept, and your brain conjured up something to explain the pain. Hope you feel better!

So sorry for your loss. Losing a pet just sucks. I know how close you and Tucker were. (((Hugs))) I like this version of heaven... "Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown..."

Yeah... I saved my pennies for it for quite a while (but of course, NOW they have a payment plan! They didn't when I bought it...I had to get on a waiting list, but $300 to never clean a catbox again, SOLD!). It ends up saving a bundle on cat litter. The cartridges have 60 washings in them and cost $14 each (less if you buy the 3 or 5 packs), and I run it once per day for my cat (set on a timer to finish right before I get home from work, so no catbox odor!), so it costs me about $7 per month. I was spending about $40 per month on expensive odor control cat litter before. For 2-3 cats, running it twice a day is probably good, so the cost would be around $14 per month. You can buy the cartridges online or at SmartHome if there is a store near you. The litter never needs to be replaced, you just add more when it gets low, which isn't often. I've gone through one spare package of litter in two years. It officially has a two year warranty, but I've had mine for more than that, and I just had a problem with a leaky hose (my fault, I tripped over the hose which yanked on it pretty good) and they're sending me a new one free. Their customer service is phenomenal!

My cat would then tell your cats about the Cat Genie

How long would the opposite of this exist? Oh yeah, two days.
Nightingale replied to quade's topic in Speakers Corner
I don't see the point of protesting... Now, on the other hand, the billboard company is private. Nothing wrong with a private individual or group offering them more cash to replace it with something they find tolerable. If you don't want to look at it, put your money where your mouth is, just like the Jesus people did. -
College Senior Skydiver WANTS YOU! to take a 10 minute survey
Nightingale replied to gNemo's topic in The Bonfire
Please post it, Nemo! It was a good survey, and I want to read the results! -
"Dear Dropzone.com: Please tell my human to get her butt home from work and play with the dog. Thank you very much. Sincerely, Jojo"

College Senior Skydiver WANTS YOU! to take a 10 minute survey
Nightingale replied to gNemo's topic in The Bonfire
It's a pretty well thought-out survey, and it does take about ten minutes. -
Of course your kids can pray at school! They just can't make the OTHER kids pray at school.

As long as we can vote to take away the freedoms of others to peacefully live their lives with the partners of the their choice, then no, we do not live in a free country.

Most of the guys around here swear by TT Gunleather They don't list a Kel-Tec on their site, but if you give them a call anyway, they may add it to their line. They have been known to do so before when they find out there is a demand.

What do you do when your best friend...
Nightingale replied to skittles_of_SDC's topic in The Bonfire
Cut away the so-called friend. Then, wait around a few weeks/months until he's done with the girl, and help her get over him.
