Tandem to overcome fear before getting back into aff?
Nightingale replied to Daizey's topic in Safety and Training
I rode the plane down on my level 2 AFF. A couple of friends bought me a tandem to get me back in the air. I chose the JM, same guy I did my first tandem with, and I felt totally comfortable with him, plus I knew he wasn't going to let me go up there and then not skydive. If it wasn't for that tandem, I probably wouldn't have jumped again. It was the absolute BEST thing I could have done for myself at that time. -
Pondering the perils of parenthood and skydiving
Nightingale replied to FreeflyVan's topic in The Bonfire
Tell them that watching you skydive will teach your children that some risks are acceptable, and that you can't always take the "safe" road in life. Sometimes, the rewards are well worth the risk. Its your life, your family, and your choice. -
I didn't much care for his politics, but heck, if he wants to make a skydive, he should go for it!

the other load landed only a few minutes before you guys did, so maybe it was traffic from the other otter, canopies, and jumpers?

/5/1 5 jumps. I owe beer for my first tube exit (thanks, Max!) 1 absolutely awful landing, any worse and I wouldn't have walked away from it. I lost a contact lens in freefall and had no depth perception at all while trying to land. Flared about 30 feet too high, and then, realizing I was too high, brought the toggles up a bit, intending to re-flare, and the canopy dove and hit the ground. I landed hard on my knees/shins, and then rolled out the rest of the momentum. I was preparing for a PLF, but it all happened too fast and I had no idea where the ground was, plus I was downwind (couldn't see well enough to read the flag) so I was coming in pretty fast. I ended up with a sorta plf that wasn't real effective. (note to self: practice those more.) This morning, my shins are pretty much solid bruises and I'm taking lots of aleve. If I'd been flying a smaller canopy, I most probably would have seriously injured if not killed myself.

I'm sorry... I don't follow. I don't understand how you're making the connection between homosexual referring to males, and some men being sexually confused. Could you explain further, because this doesn't make any sense. It seems like you're trying to connect two different issues.
-
um... I know many hetero men who use the term "gay" when describing a homosexual male's orientation. I don't know where you're from, though. Maybe its different there. Homosexual is a category which encompasses both gays and lesbians, gay typically referring to homosexual males, and lesbian typically referring to homosexual females.

I can't wait to see "Rent" and I will the next time its out here in LA. Tickets were too expensive last time they were here. I was a poor college student... wait a sec... now I'm a poor graduate student (AND a skydiver). somehow my finances haven't improved much! LOL. I'm still gonna go see it.

Why should men be the "head of the household?" Relationships work better when decision making rests equally on both parties shoulders. One person being "head" or "in charge" doesn't make a relationship, it makes for slavery.

and... um... WHERE can I find one of these??????

I want dive loops on my reserve.
Nightingale replied to Deuce's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm a newbie, so I can't say for certain, but I do know that a seven cell lands differently than a 9 cell. Most people jump 9 cells, right? reserves are 7 cell. IIRC, the 7 cell has a steeper glide ratio. How would a steeper glide ratio affect a hook turn? wouldn't you lose altitude faster than if you were on a 9 cell? Could that make you possibly think you're turning at the right altitude but actually turn too low? I don't know. I've never done a hook turn. I'm just speculating, and hoping someone knows the answer. -
hopefully, the ACLU will be all over this one.

thanks!

Perris doesn't teach backloops til the A license check dive. I nailed them both. 360 right, 360 left, perfect backloop. 360 left, 360 right, perfect backloop. Did I get my money's worth? HECK YEAH. From my own experience, I'd say you can't do a perfect backloop if you don't have a sense of where your center of gravity is. If you know where your center is, its easy to stay stable, do a flip, and pop back into an arch. Again, from my own perspective, I'd say someone who can do a backloop understands stability and balance, which is what you're checking for anyway. Perris had me do an unstable exit on level 6 out of the skyvan. Both the unstable exit and the backloops were confidence boosters (not to mention FUN!) and the more confident someone is, the less likely they are to freak, and the more likely they'll do the right thing, ie. relax and arch.

there's no dropping sensation because you reach terminal velocity very quickly. What you think of as a dropping sensation is acceleration combined with visual cues that let your brain know you're falling.

I think for the most part, men enjoy it more, consistently. don't get me wrong, I REALLY like sex. I'm drawing my conclusion from conversations with my male friends. Basically, they've said "there's no such thing as bad sex. Sex is like pizza. Even if its not Chicago Brothers, its still pizza, which automatically makes it good. Same with sex." Personally, I've had great sex, and I've had really bad sex. I think most men don't experience "bad sex" because even if its great, its still sex. With women, we're a little more dependent on the guy listening to us when we let them know what we like and what turns us on. A guy who doesn't really care about what we like can make it a really rotten experience, whereas the guy usually gets off regardless.

Just wait for the DVD if you really want to see it and are worried about the ick factor. Then you can pause it and take a break if you need to.

10/10 You'd spot Hannibal Lecter at an Open Source conference in seconds. Your liver is safe. LOL... its all in the eyes.

Once a circumcision is done, its done. If its something your child wants, let him make his own decision when he's old enough. what its coming down to is that health benefits, if any, are exremely slight. The reason is mostly aesthetic, so bascially, when you have a baby circumcised, you're performing cosmetic surgery on a child. You wouldn't give your kid a nose job if his nose was perfectly fine at birth, would ya?
-
Jaye- They're talking about men who were circumcised later in life. These men noticed a very noticable decrease in pleasure after their circumcision.

yep. I absolutely overanalyze life. I'm a graduate student! analysis is what we do! I enjoy it very much, but there are moments when its time to tell the brain to shove it and run off and have fun.

I only care when they haven't taken the time to actually THINK about their position. Even then, I only care because in that case, they're fun to mess with. If someone has taken the time to fully consider their position before coming to a conclusion, we can have a great, fun debate, but I really don't care if I change their mind. The discussion can be entertaining, though. I have a right to my opinion, others have a right to theirs. Doesn't mean we can't have a nice, respectful chat about it, though.

bout the only paperwork my mom has to do at her school (other than grading, report cards, progress reports, and IEPs) is signing out supplies when she takes them from the cabinet.

It's not your body. It's your child's. Its an unnecessary, elective surgery. Why would you put a healthy infant under the knife and subject him to the risks of a surgery he doesn't need? Let him make his own choice when he's older if it becomes a social issue. Also, if for some reason the foreskin poses a problem, the surgery can be done later on. some more information: http://www.mothersagainstcirc.org/majority.htm
