So, who are the college students? I'm a grad school student What year are you? grad, with only my comprehensive exams left. What university do you attend? Loyola Marymount What is your major and how did you decide what you wanted to study? Currently finishing up a M.A. in Education. Thought I wanted to be a teacher. My B.A. is in communications with an emphasis in film and screenwriting, with a dance minor. I picked it because I enjoyed it, and most people don't really care what you got your undergrad degree in anyway. Heck, even if you're not in college anymore... how did you know what you wanted to study? I picked something I liked. Even if its just a hobby now, it kept my interest through school, which made it easier to stick with it.

What Will YOU do with YOUR tax Return?!?!!?!?!
Nightingale replied to Unstable's topic in The Bonfire
I paid my kitty's vet bill. He's fine now, so it was well worth it. -
anything so long as I can understand the words, and the drums aren't louder than the vocals.

Police in US arrest 9 year old rabbit thief!!!!
Nightingale replied to BethUK's topic in Speakers Corner
Those kids are f-ing insane. They belong in institutions, not jail cells. -
I didn't apply at Whittier. I didn't get a chance to take a look at the community, and I figured Chapman was closer anyway.

1. don't push. some people just don't want to jump. They need to do it for them, not for you. 2. Relax. Feel free to mess them on the plane. The more they relax, the more you'll relax. 3. Smile, breathe, and give them a big hug on the ground after the jump.

I just got a letter from Chapman Law School here in California, which is my second choice. So, regardless of what happens with Loyola Law (which is my first choice who I haven't heard back from yet), I am staying right here in bright, sunny, southern California! I just got finished jumping up and down and screaming on the phone to my parents, so I had to come here and share the news too!

Police in US arrest 9 year old rabbit thief!!!!
Nightingale replied to BethUK's topic in Speakers Corner
you can be justified in resenting someone if what they did to you was unjust. For example, the people in Ireland who, in the early part of this century, were thrown into Kilmainham Jail or shipped off to Botany Bay for stealing a loaf of bread. It was the law, but it was an unjust law. I think they had a right to resent the people who did that to them. There's nothing wrong with resenting the law if the law is unjust, provided that resentment is channeled into something constructive, such as actually DOING something about the unjust law. **All this is hypothetical. I don't feel we have enough info regarding the rabbit snatcher to make a call on the fairness of it all** -
lol. Again... I'm not going to do it. I was just curious. Like the birdman questions I've been asking, its filed away in the "maybe I'll try that someday very far from today" file.

where can I find rigging "odds and ends"?
Nightingale replied to Nightingale's topic in Gear and Rigging
thanks much, both of ya!!! -
what I meant was not using a camera suit, not filming other jumpers and worrying about framing and the like. just wearing a camera to record your own jumps. I've noticed a lot of the freeflyers at Elsinore have little mini-DV cameras, which is what prompted the question.

where can I find rigging "odds and ends"?
Nightingale replied to Nightingale's topic in Gear and Rigging
Basically, I'm looking to buy non-airworthy rig parts. Junk such as old three-rings, worn closing pins, and scraps of old cutaway cable (about 6-8 inches long) that are only worthy of decoration. Stuff that would otherwise get thrown out maybe. I'm looking for stuff that I can use as decoration for the teddy bear/doll rigs I've been making. I looked at the full price new 3-ring systems from para-gear, but I don't need strength of brand new ones. They only have to hold a maybe 5 lb teddy bear. I really don't know where to begin asking, so I thought someone here might know who I should talk to or give me an idea of where I should start looking, or even if this is practical at all and if I should just keep using keychain rings to approximate the hardware. -
What level should someone be before they jump with a camera? I'm not talking about being a "camera flyer", but just taking a video camera along on your own jump to record your perspective. **this is just a curious question. I'm not considering doing it at this time**

yep. bad taste. sympathies to Mr. Yankovic.

0:4:1 4 jumps yesterday 1 case of beer owed for first jump with my new jumpsuit (beer has been paid).
-
The people I've encountered on DZ.com, and then met in real life are people I'd have run into at the DZ anyway.
-
Not unless it was a cutaway rig.

What should packers take upon themselves?
Nightingale replied to Blahr's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My packer a few weeks ago flagged me down as I was walking by and said "hey, you need a new closing loop. I'm going to replace it for you, k?" I said "cool! Thanks!" and he got a bigger tip than ususal for the service. Had he not told me about it, I wouldn't have known to toss in the extra cash because he went above just packing the gear. -
Things I've learned since my accident. I hope this helps somebody.

Mine runs in mortal terror, and then scrapes up his courage to pounce on the vacuum, generally getting his tail stuck in the intake. -

what can I say...? You Rock! -
Yes, you'll get more back. Just declare it all as income on your tax forms. When I was leasing, all our commission was taxed at either 44% or 54%, I don't remember which, and I ended up with a HUGE tax refund.

cutaways..... inevitable?
Nightingale replied to sky_jumper22's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You mean Scott Lutz? Nope. It was someone who had their FJC a few weeks before me. -

cutaways..... inevitable?
Nightingale replied to sky_jumper22's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
one of my AFF instructors had over 2500 jumps, and no cutaways (at least, no cutaways as of my AFF 2 about four months ago, when I asked her). However, I also know someone who had a cutaway on their very first jump. Some malfunctions are caused by body position rather than by packing. A perfect packjob cannot guarantee a perfect opening.
