if you're trying to lose weight, that's not the way to go about it. If you severely restrict your food intake like that, your body goes into starvation mode, lowers metabolism, and tries to conserve fat stores.

I know. Your initial post mentioned last years incident as well. I couldn't find a press release on this year's yet.

from SportsIllustrated.com Habs' president apologizes for booing Posted: Friday March 21, 2003 6:07 PM Updated: Friday March 21, 2003 8:24 PM Complete Pierre Boivin Statement On behalf of the entire Montreal Canadiens organization, I would like to express my deep regret over the conduct displayed by certain fans prior to Thursday night's game against the New York Islanders. During the performance of The Star Spangled Banner, some of the fans in attendance at the Bell Centre chose to express their political beliefs by jeering the American national anthem. It is our firm belief that this kind of behaviour has no place in the context of professional sports. The Montreal Canadiens organization has always held a high respect for its neighbours and friends in the United States, and we look forward to maintaining this strong and positive relationship. We apologize to anyone who may have been offended by this incident, and would encourage all fans at the Bell Centre to conduct themselves in a manner worthy of our game and our two great nations. MONTREAL (AP) -- The president of the Montreal Canadiens apologized Friday for fans who booed the U.S. national anthem before Thursday night's game against the New York Islanders. "The Montreal Canadiens organization has always held a high respect for its neighbors and friends in the United States, and we look forward to maintaining this strong and positive relationship," Pierre Boivin said in a statement. "We apologize to anyone who may have been offended by this incident, and would encourage all fans at the Bell Centre to conduct themselves in a manner worthy of our game and our two great nations." Before the game, the sellout crowd of 21,273 was asked to "show your support and respect for two great nations" before the singing of the American and Canadian national anthems. But many fans booed throughout The Star-Spangled Banner, apparently expressing displeasure with the U.S.-led war against Iraq. "It is our firm belief that this kind of behavior has no place in the context of professional sports," Boivin said. The Islanders won the game 6-3, and afterward New York's Mark Parrish -- who's from Minnesota -- expressed disappointment with the booing. "I came to the game pretty pumped up, but once I heard that, it really got me going," he said. "So I guess I can thank them a little bit for getting me more pumped up." Gary Meagher, a league spokesman in Toronto, said the fans' behavior was disappointing but did not reflect widespread resentment. "We don't expect it's going to turn into a league-wide issue," Meagher said. "We're working with the Canadians today, working through some things to try and deal with the situation. It certainly is an isolated one at this point." Meagher said the national anthem began being played at hockey games in 1946 to show respect for players returning from World War II. At that time, usually only the home anthem was played. It wasn't until the 1960s that both anthems were played. It was 1987 before the NHL introduced a rule saying both anthems had to be performed before games involving American and Canadian teams.

salary depends on experience, education, and what kind of job you want. Rent for a nice place, 1 bd, you're looking at 800-900 a month. Gas is about two bucks a gallon. You're about an hour away from Perris.

Police in US arrest 9 year old rabbit thief!!!!

I don't know about the UK, but most of the kids here in the US who are in juvie and need psychiatric attention don't get it. My cousin is schizophrenic and couldn't even get his medication while he was in juvie. -
um.... I see a bit of resemblance to someone else we all know..... and congrats, DiverDriver and Wendy! Best wishes!!!!

Michele- you're forgetting one thing.... I suck at math. I can't even balance my damn checkbook! We all have things we're good at, and for me, math isn't one of them. so somehow, I don't think nuclear physics is gonna work... but thank you much for the compliment

My general restaurant rule is 10% if the service wasn't great, no tip if my water glass was empty for most of the meal and I couldn't flag down the waitress, but I tip 20-25% if the service was good. For sushi, I usually tip 20-25%, since the service is usually fine. I haven't run into bad service at a sushi bar yet.

hmmph. I had ONE drink, thank you very much. A midori sour. It's not my fault that the bartender basically poured an entire glass of midori and forgot the sweet & sour mix. I didn't realize it til I'd already pretty much finished the drink, and by then it was too late. I'm honestly not sure if I was actually drunk, or just buzzed enough to be slightly silly. I woke up with a bit of a headache yesterday morning, but I'm not sure if it was the midori or the getting only four hours of sleep. and James? You're dead. That was NOT something I was planning on announcing to the forum.

I was going to go to Loyola's night program, which is made for people who are working. However, I still think it'll be really, really hard.

If a worker strikes, should he lose his job?
Nightingale replied to Chizazz's topic in Speakers Corner
I lived in the dorms and was on a school meal plan. Both paid for with a student loan. I was on the school's health plan and had my health care needs taken care of on campus. I didn't have a car my freshman year. My sophomore year, I bought a car with my tutoring money. -
YMMV???? wuzzat mean?

If a worker strikes, should he lose his job?
Nightingale replied to Chizazz's topic in Speakers Corner
I financed my undergraduate (and graduate) school myself. No help from parents. They were paying for my mom's school at the time, as well as my brother's private high school. I did it through federal and private loans, as well as grants and scholarships. I worked 10 hours a week tutoring elementary kids and made $20 an hour doing it. Sure, I finished school with a boatload of loans to repay, but I also finished with the means to get a job that would enable me to repay them while maintaining a decent standard of living for myself. -

I work 40 hours a week, commute 2 hours every day (total of 50 hours per week devoted to work) and still find time to attend graduate school full time. I'm not saying its easy, but if one is motivated, it can be done -

$6,625 will cover part-time school, leaving plenty of time for work at whatever job they happen to have. -
Well, I live about ten minutes away from Chapman, so traffic is a non-issue there. However... I work ten minutes from Loyola, and since the Loyola program is part time, I would continue to work... however, I'd still have to fight the morning traffic to get to work. The questions I've been asking myself: Do I want 4.5 years of hell (loyola), or 3 (chapman)? Do I want to risk going to a law school that hasn't proven itself yet, even though the university itself has a good reputation? Is the 40% scholarship worth it? Do I want to try to work and go to school at the same time, even part time? sigh... I just don't know.

Knowing something is wrong, and understanding the consequences of that wrongness are two different things. -
I just got my scholarship letter from Chapman... They're offering me a 40% tuition scholarship!!!! I just about fainted. That's like $10,800 a year. OMG OMG OMG.... Now, I'm not sure what to do... I've been informed through secure channels (read: my uncle knows the dean of Loyola) that I'm going to get accepted to Loyola, but probably won't get a scholarship, since I fall right in the middle of what they're looking for. So.... I can go to a Tier 2 school and pay full price (around $19,000 per year for part time for four and a half years... totalling $85,500) or a Tier 3 school with a very good reputation for three years full time and pay $48,600. I'm VERY confused right now... anyone got any advice???????

Like I said in my previous post... I don't know what ought to be done. I just know the current way of doing things probably isn't right. Kids, while they may recognize that what they're doing is wrong, don't always recognize degrees of wrong. They might know what they're doing isn't right, but they may not be able to differentiate between stealing candy from a convenience store and shooting someone. -

I love school. I'm looking forward to it. I know its going to be hard, but it will be rewarding at the same time. I like classes that make me think.

right now, I've just got a BA. As of May 9, I'll also have an MA in education. And in four years... I'll have a JD too.

having taught elementary school, I would concur with that assessment. 12 year olds can't even plan ahead for next week, much less truly understand the consequences for committing a crime. there has to be a better alternative. Letting them off completely isn't a good idea, but neither is letting them rot in jail. they're just kids. -
sleep? me?? Well... um... I got about four hours... does that count?
