  1. if you listen to "Shameless" by Garth Brooks, it sounds like he's saying "Shaving" instead.
  2. don't look so much at chronological age, but at where you are in life. if she's still in college and has never experienced the real world like you have, that can make a relationship very difficult. If she hasn't had the opportunity to truly be on her own, she hasn't yet had the maturing opportunities that situation provides.
  3. the Jews believe that Jesus did not meet the criteria of the Messiah...who better to know that then they?
  4. I didn't mind paying for packing class. My instructor spent about six hours with me. He deserves to be compensated.
  5. 500 feet below breakoff 500 feet below planned pull altitude 2500 feet (my hard deck)
  6. its a little easier on your ego if you just suck at one thing at a time. start with one, get good at it, and then learn the other if you want. if you're trying to learn too many things at once, its harder to get them into muscle memory and really feel comfortable. It takes longer. if you do 50 freefly jumps and 50 RW jumps, you're not going to be as good in either discipline as someone who only has 100 freefly, or 100 RW. Its a frustrating position to be in. I see it all the time with karate students who've been training in multiple arts. They've got three years under their belt, but look like they've only got one, because they've been splitting their time between two schools, instead of just picking one and getting good at it first.
  7. a lot of punks who walk around with knives have no clue how to use them. You need to react differently to a trained knife fighter than you do an ameteur who doesn't have any idea what they're doing. Had it been a trained fighter, my instructor probably would've been cut. I was taught that in a knife fight, you're probably going to get cut, so expect it... just don't let your opponent choose where to cut you.
  8. wasn't the movie already made by February of '04? the deadline for submission to Cannes is March 15, so the movie would have had to be done or almost done by that point.
  9. I can tell you how my karate instructor did it... ignore the knife the moron is tossing from hand to hand trying to intimidate you, and just hit him in the jaw instead.
  10. but... can we really prove that speakers corner exists? or that your keys exist? or is it all in your head?
  11. While getting my masters, I took several classes in secondary language acquisition. The first part of learning a language is when conversation is most important. Find a friend who speaks the language, and communicate only in that language. It'll be a lot of miming and gesturing in the beginning as they show you the words, but you'll get it. After you acquire conversational skills, then, move on to written, and a lot of that you can teach yourself... think about when you learned to read, and how much new vocabulary you picked up through books.
  12. the software stuff doesn't work well. what makes our brain absorb language is conversation and interaction. the memorization from a computer program doesn't usually stick very well. Its fine if you want to learn a phrase or two, but not if you truly want to learn a language to fluency. Take a few classes at a community college, or, if you want to learn russian, call your local russian orthodox church, and they can tell you where to go.
  13. what would also be cool is if people who didn't want their copy (as in the case of the husband and wife each getting a copy) had the option to have that copy mailed to a school or library instead.
  14. don't see why. they've got snowboarding and aviation magazines already, at least, they did when I was in school.
  15. I'd be happy to donate a subscription to my local high school.
  16. what, specifically, did he lie about?
  17. she's comparing it to Perris, which is really, really big. Elsinore feels small to me too, even though I know it really isn't. Hollister's the smallest DZ I've seen yet.
  18. I believe they've changed over the years. I also believe they're not specific enough to be a true moral code. They're pretty much a list of what not to do. I think the new testament's "love your neighbor as yourself" is a much better moral guide.
  19. Seems like Michael Moore's motivation came from policy issues with the Bush administration.
  20. Perris teaches pro-packing. It was a rain day, so I asked the school if I could do my packing class instead. Paid my fee, and had a one on one class, and the encouragement from the instructor to come back any time I had a question... I think he regretted that, after hearing "JIMMY!!! I forgot AGAIN!!!! HELP PLEASE!!!" the tenth time or so.
  21. yeah. that too... I stayed up late playing Everquest with clownburner, and then my roommate was having a family crisis (her parents are putting her in the middle of their marital issues) so I didn't get to sleep til 1 am, and I get up at 4:30 am. zzzzz.
  22. putting up with my boss til 4:15 pm when I get to go home.
