hmm... I've never managed to crash a mac, but i get the BSOD every so often on my PC. the other thing to look at with a PC is sure, you can upgrade it, but will you? you're buying a new one right now. why not just upgrade the old one? because it's a royal PITA? A lot of people buy PCs and intend to upgrade them when they need it, but don't.

having something definite would be nice. It would shut up all the groups that say "I'm right and you're wrong and you're all going to hell/valhalla/the underworld/etc" because then we would know who is right.

but comparing mac ram/speed and pc ram/speed isn't a good comparison, because the MacOS is much more efficient. My laptop has got more ram and a faster processor than Clownburner's laptop, but his runs noticeably faster.

reinstall the software and drivers for your CD burner.

get a mac. my computers have been PCs all my life. I started using Clownburner's mac, and I love it. My next computer will be a mac. It does everything my PC does, but it does it better, faster, and without crashing.

sorry if I wasn't clear... was talking about the salmon used in philly rolls.

LOL. no. I just felt like complaining about it.

a shotgun is probably a better bet. doesn't require nearly as much aiming if you're scared and shaking. security wise, get a lock that bolts into the door jam and flips over the edge of the door. The cheaper ones are called "flip locks" and cost about $2. There is a pic of a pricier one attached. If you print the pic and show it to your local hardware store guy, they'll know what it is. here's a link to a cheap one. http://www.securityworld.com/locks/pivotfliplock.html Make sure you bolt the lock in. Some people use 6" carriage bolts or wood screws, which are probably good. Don't get the kind of lock that bolts into the jam and the door. Apartment doors are weak, and the door itself probably isn't strong enough to hold the screws for that part of the lock in if someone gives it a good shove. Do NOT use a chain lock. I can kick my way through those (and have! I told my friend's mom when they installed one that the chain lock wouldn't hold, when the subject came up. she didn't believe me. I asked her if she wanted me to kick the door, and sure enough, the lock broke right off and the door opened) I'm an average sized woman without a lot of weight to put behind a kick, and if I can kick through a chain lock, a guy who's bigger than me definitely can. Also note your hinges. If the hinges are exposed to the exterior of the apartment, you have a problem. Burglars can simply pop out the hinges and remove the door, even when it is locked tight! This, a burglar’s dream, and some carpenter’s mistake. If this is the case, reinstall the hinges so they are exposed to the inside. I'm assuming you don't have any windows that are accessible, being on the second floor. If you do, get window locks. Think about getting an alarm. Some places won't install alarms in apartments without management permission, so call around and eventually someone will. There's something comforting when you get home to hear that *beeeep* and know that nobody's been inside. a "protected by smith and wesson" sticker on your door is a nice addition as well.

I just got my finals schedule. I have a torts final on December 1. which really sucks. having a final on your birthday is icky! at least it's early in the morning, so I'll have the rest of the day free, but after a final, I usually just want to go sleep. my next final isn't for another week. sigh.

remember... sushi salmon isn't raw, it's smoked, so you're still not eating raw fish. oh... try unagi. It's eel, which sounds gross, but it's cooked, and has a really soft, flaky texture, kinda like sole, and softer than halibut. It comes hot, with it's own special sauce, eel sauce, which is kinda similar to teriyaki, but not quite. Every time I've taken a sushi virgin out for sushi, eel is the first thing we order. course, I don't tell them what it is. just "try this. it's yummy and it's cooked!" after that, they're usually willing to try more stuff, because the eel is super yummy, so they want to see what the rest of it tastes like. you'll probably also like shrimp sushi. not the sweet shrimp, but the regular shrimp. the regular shrimp is cooked, just like cocktail shrimp, and served on rice usually with a little wasabi. if you don't like wasabi, just ask them to leave it off. spider rolls are also really good. it's cooked softshell crab rolled up like a california roll. If you're feeling slightly adventurous, try baked mussels. the mussels are baked in the shell with this yummy kinda cheesy tasting sauce. everyone I've gotten to try them, no matter how suspiciously they looked at them has said something to the effect of "OMG that's good!"

I'm so sorry. ((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))) I hope she continues to remain pain free and knows you're with her. On her birthday, put her favorite picture of the two of you in your jumpsuit pocket, and go for a solo skydive at sunset. You know she'll be with you.

ugh... human resources. the thing with lawyers, even though they're pretty universally hated, when you need one, especially if you're being sued or charged with a crime or divorcing, you're awful glad to have one. Nobody's ever grateful for the HR people. They just create problems and red tape.

try eating tuna rolls, or a philly roll. philly roll is salmon and cream cheese (kinda like cream cheese and lox) wrapped in rice. Since a roll tends to be more rice than fish, it's easier to focus on the flavor rather than the texture til you get used to it.

I'd love to own an alternative fuel vehicle, but it's not practical at this point in time, as you can't buy the fuel at the local service station, so you couldn't go too far from your known fuel supply, unless you've got a solar car or something.

what michele said... neuter but don't declaw. if scratching is an issue, you can put softclaws on him, which are little vinyl claw caps that glue onto the claws. the cats can still engage in their normal scratching behavior, but don't do any damage. You can find the softclaws at a large pet store like petsmart or petco, and your vet's office. Bengals are great kitties... but make sure you have lots of toys for them to play with, because they are very active, and active kitties without enough toys will make toys out of things that shouldn't be toys.

in that kind of situation, the company has little choice but to write you up. Otherwise, the other employee could sue them for permitting harassment to go on in the workplace. It's not the HR guy's fault.

in some jurisdictions, there are laws stating that one cannot consent to their own assault, so the contract may not be legal.

when I was in high school, we studied various religions in world history class. When we were studying the area where Judaism sprung up, we studied the religion and culture of the region as well, including the Jewish creation myth, Ditto with India, China, the US, Hawaii, Greece and Rome, Egypt, etc... The Jewish/Christian creation myth was put right where it belonged...in the midst of other theories with exactly the same amount of proof. Creationism's basis is in religion and the history of the people, not in science. Students were exposed to the Jewish/Christian creation myth, along with a good chunk of other creation myths, as well as the theory of evolution (in science class), which, as I said above, was definitely not presented as a fact, but in its appropriate scientific context.

dude, as cool as skydiving is, it isn't worth giving up the people you love. If you're thinking about it, think long and hard about both the relationship and the place jumping should have in your life. You need to get some perspective. Jumping out of planes is a great part of life, but it shouldn't be your entire life.

Is it better to ask permission or seek forgiveness?
Nightingale replied to boinky's topic in The Bonfire
I think the first date might be too soon to discuss STDs... you're just getting to know the person. I think it's kinda jumping the gun to assume you're going to be sleeping with them. What if you just go out two or three times, and realize it isn't going to work out? I think if someone has an STD, they definitely need to tell their SO, but the first date probably isn't the right time. course, right when they're falling into bed isn't stellar timing either, but somewhere in the middle would be good. -
oh. she's kinda before my time, I guess. I know who she is, tho.

depends on the secret, but for most things: I wouldn't say anything too revealing right up front. go out for a while and hang out and see if you really enjoy each other's company. then, tell them if you find yourself getting really attached. if it's a really big, important secret (STD, divorce, still married, have kids, etc), make sure you tell them before you have sex, so they can make an educated decision about whether they want to be with you, knowing all the big facts. -
