  1. Well... as I've said before... when I was 18, I married an ass in North Carolina and no one there lifted an eyebrow. Owned by Remi #?
  2. http://www.spacewar.com/reports/British_Submarine_Accident_Caused_By_Oxygen_Creating_Device_999.html Okay... I'll go with this example of why the RN is unqualified to field nuclear submarines: Owned by Remi #?
  3. Minimum opening altitudes vary by license. C and D recommended minimum container openings are 2000 feet. I'm not a big fan of pushing minimums but the couple of times I have, I've been in the saddle between 1500 and 1200 feet. No "rules" broken. Not optimum safety but most certainly not the end of the world. Owned by Remi #?
  4. John Winkler had a Rickerby print on the wall of his workshop at our DZ. It was an altimeter face superimposed with the grim reaper pointing a long, wicked finger at 0. It gave me the chills when I looked at it. We had a fire a few months ago and the print was destroyed. It was one of the only things that almost brough Wink to tears in spite of losing almost all of his skydiving gear and video editing equipment. BSBD to you, Mr. Rickerby. Although I never talked to you or met you, you touched my life. Owned by Remi #?
  5. What difference does it make that this was a nuke? The accident is unrelated and the mention of the propulsion system is merely news spin. Honestly, jakee. Here in the States there are a HUGE number of military training and exercise deaths that are not reported beyond a blurb in the local newspaper and a paragraph read in the Plan of the Day. I spent my Navy career working in maintenance billets aboard tenders and shore facilties for both destroyers and submarines. I've seen my share of gaffers tape and bubble gum where it had no business. Leave the mockery for now. Have a moments of silence, if not respect, for the seamen who lost their lives regardless of the Navy they served. Owned by Remi #?
  6. BS. Most people I mention Ron Paul to have a different opinion than I do about him? Well? Is it just that people who don't agree with you are ignorant? Owned by Remi #?
  7. I got nuttin, Dave. Well... unless I really want to post an example or two of how not to pass an AFFI course. I was just curious. Owned by Remi #?
  8. Yes, Carey. You can skydive. Owned by Remi #?
  9. A blond driver gets pulled over by a blond cop.... The cop asks the driver for a license and the driver digs around for a while and finally present a small mirror. "Is this my license"?, the blond driver asks... Looking closer... the blond cop says... "Why didn't you tell me you were a police officer? Owned by Remi #?
  10. Again, your insight and experience are appreciated. What I'm understanding is that both a release from the student and a WFH from the videographer are good ideas. Owned by Remi #?

  13. Chris, I didn't mean to hammer you. I only thought when I first saw the video that it was great that the student was okay and damn... that's one hell of a close call. That kind of close call is one of the things I think instructors worry about both on the students behalf from a huge percentage and from a small percentage how it could be taken from a whuffo's point of view. A lot of people have seen the infamous Lutz video where he says (paraphrased) "they didn't tell me to expect my chute to just fly away" That's accusatory and something most of the whuffo crowd watching the video believed. Most skydivers with even minimal jump numbers watched in numb amazement as the asshat in question cut away instead of pulling and watched his instructors try like hell to save his life while his narative described how they abandonded him... In his case, he went live with his own video. In this case, it sounded to me like the student wasn't involved with posting the video. Lawyers have done wierder things than post stuff on this forum looking for bait. It seems that you didn't mean harm and I'm sorry I pounded you, okay? Owned by Remi #?

  17. Thanks, guys. Great information. Eh, Dave.... I've never actually read our waiver. Edit to ask: So hypothetically.. If I ask you or Wink to video something for me, and then I post it on youtube, I'm violating the copyright and Wink could sue me if he chose? I'm not sayin' he would... just asking. I'll also ask him directly also. Owned by Remi #?
  18. I hope I didn't imply any critisism of the instructor somewhere. And I also didn't mean to be harsh about asking about the video rights. The OP just brought the question of whether or not the student has any say in whether or not what happened is made public like this. I asked the question in the Vidiot forum and got good answers. I guess it depends on the paperwork the student fills out. Owned by Remi #?
  19. A thread in S&T brought this question to mind: If a student buys video (before a jump or after, does that make a difference?) who owns the publishing rights to that video? Can the DZ or videographer publish it if they want to? Owned by Remi #?
  20. I never said anything about lying. I said that I wondered if you had the right to post the video. You got it from "some guy" and gave it to "some other guy" to put on youtube. Did you participate in creating the video in any way or do you appear in the video? Do you own rights to the video? Owned by Remi #?
  21. I didn't mean to imply that it didn't happen or that it wasn't Hollister, I just found the OPs response strange and wondered if he had the right to post it in the first place. Owned by Remi #?
  22. You're saying that you gave a "non jumping friend" this video and that they knew what a pc was but otherwise didn't describe it well? Sorry, man... but something smells weird about that. Where did you get the video? Owned by Remi #?
  23. Possible yes, but evident no. Don't assume every reaction or problem has a precident. Some people do weird / dangerous things without a clear reason and with no prior history. Owned by Remi #?
  24. That's a pretty scary video, yes.... but I disagree with the description given by the video poster. "student holds pc and it wraps around her neck" should say instead "student wraps bridle around her neck" She didn't just hold the thing, she brought it under her body. I'm glad it worked out ok.
