Agreed. This thread seems like a huge overreaction / complication of what IMO is a very simple thing. If the pilot hasn't indicated an okay to exit, whether it's a green light, a shout, a disco ball, or a freaking cow bell then it's NOT okay to exit. If it turns out that the pilot forgot to drop a dime in the exit approval apparatus then that's the pilot's fault. Go around. If the pilot HAS illuminated the "go have fun" light it's STILL up to each person in the door to look around before exiting. We all make mistakes but damn, it's not all that complicated on the surface. Owned by Remi #?

Sorry, eh? If you saw me you'd think (and be correct) that I was one of the gayest people you had ever met, yet I've had 2 kids. I've done my part, dude. I haven't endangered the continuance of the human race any more than I've threatened the sanctity of marriage. Owned by Remi #?

Hey Dave, I think you've made a great point and you've no need to look for analogies. He's either going to think it through or blunder on. You've given good, solid advise either way. Owned by Remi #?

I'm with the "post pictures" crowd... Even though I paid to have a cutaway system and a cameye installed, my FF2 arrived with neither assembly able to function. I had to work with my rigger to get all of the pieces sorted out. The cameye was there but not routed or installed. I paid 40 dollars to have the thing tossed into the box with my helmet. The cutaway was there but none of the hardware to attach the chincup to the the helmet was included, which made the cutaway ...and edit... the chincup and therefore the entire helmet pretty seriously useless. I spent about 2 weeks getting past the European vs North American definition of "missing hardware" before 2KC fixed the problems. And another edit. On one hand it's petty to claim that a helmet is useless when one can get a few dollars worth of bolts and nylon at Home Depot and make it work... But still... it's also pretty pathetic to pay 700 dollars for a helmet and have it arrive unusable. Now.. mind ya. I love my FF2 and think it's an awesome helmet. It just took a lot of grief to get it right considering that it's twice the cost of most other helmets. Owned by Remi #?

Um well.... there are a lot of "retired military" folks around here. What exactly makes you different? There a quite a few active and retired military static line and free fall instructors here. Shout out your name and military training. Maybe include an MOS or rating. That might help the locals give you gear advice. Owned by Remi #?

As Dave said, you don't sound unusually big. Maybe you should look around for a DZ that owns student gear that will fit you. Why do you want to train on the same gear you will use? Specifically your reason for wanting this. Is it something you read, something someone told you or just something you've decided all by yourself without a specific reason? It's really, really rare for modern students in the US to buy their own gear. There's a reason for that. Why do you think you're an exception? I'm not trying to grill you, I'm wondering what your thought process is. A good DZ will be using student gear that works the same as common sport gear. Call a few DZs and find out what they're using and why. If you have questions about their answers post them here for feedback. Owned by Remi #?

It's more common to wait to purchase gear after you've completed training. The people who provide your training should also be able to help you select equipment that's appropriate for you when the time comes. Owned by Remi #?

It's not a discount, it's a shared cost. I've paid for an hour and then found others willing to share the cost, I've also paid for 15 minutes and had the tunnel split the hour between me and other people who had purchased less than an hour. Any tunnel that caters to experienced jumpers should be able to provide you with some sort of rate chart based on how much time you want to purchase. For example: http://www.skyventurenh.com/prices.html Owned by Remi #?

Write or call. AFAIK, all the Skyventure tunnels offer experienced skydiver rates. Owned by Remi #?

Then they are advertising "whuffo" introductory flights and not experienced akydiver rates. What tunnel are you referring to? Owned by Remi #?
-
If a tunnel charged say, 600 dollars an hour, 6 people could each pay some portion of that and then split up the time as they saw fit doing solos, 2-ways, 3-ways or whatever they wanted. Owned by Remi #?

Well.... If I'd already worn both of my hands down to bloody stumps trying to get a canopy out under my control I'd be pleased to have my Cypres save my life. Otherwise not so happy about it. Owned by Remi #?

Based on what you've posted I guess you mean legal liability and not personal liability. We accept risk amd danger as skydivers. We hope that students understand risk and danger as we train them, right? So what's more important to you? Legal and personal liability will always be there. Do you care more about one over the other? Owned by Remi #?

Hey Chuck... I feel as though you think I'm challenging you here and I want to make it clear that I'm not. I know it's difficult to express intent with printed word sometimes. I've had students struggle a bit with heading control while trying to learn things like center point turns and then stay rock solid during deployment. I've seen students master turns and heading control during freefall and then spaz out during deployment. By the time I've seen them, all of them have demonstrated heading control at deployment time. They wouldn't get to me if they hadn't. That most certainly does NOT mean that they won't toss me a wildcard regardless. I've seen a guy who deployed on heading 10 jumps in a row sail off into a combination of spin and barrel roll at pull time. That was CLEARLY a repeat. I wanted your feedback on what the grey area was. I guess I didn't express myself very well. Owned by Remi #?
