  1. Where the "thin" part of the lanyard is in the first picture here? http://www.unitedparachutetechnologies.com/PDF/Support/Rigging/09109(skyhPackIns).pdf I'm just curious and not a rigger.... but that almost looks like it's designed to break. I hope someone who knows what the hell they're talking about weighs in. Owned by Remi #?
  2. Snapped off where? At the hook itself, the Collins Lanyard loop or somewhere in the middle? Owned by Remi #?
  3. My guess is that while anyone can put anything in a profile, truthful and accurate info in a profile engenders more trust. You rarely see someone being prompted at fill in a profile when they ask a generic question. You see it when someone asks an inflammatory question. I guess it's also pretty common to ask newer people to fill in a profile so that they can be referred to someone in their vicinity if necessary. Owned by Remi #?

  5. Yes, and the name of the original OS for the PIX was Finesse. I think the company name was NTI and the device was PIX though. This a very basic, very common set of tasks. I work for a very small VAR and still I have probably 100 clients doing all those things. There had to have either been a gross misunderstanding of what was going on with the TAC or something external at an ISP that was interfering. AFA the documentation sucking. Hell yeah. It's full of holes and assumptions, granted. Owned by Remi #?
  6. Hey Dennis, thanks for the even-handed feedback. You're right, I should count to 10 more often before I post and yes, I realize that my tone in this and some other posts has been a tad snarky. There's no real excuse other than that I guess I'm less empathetic than I could be in some cases. I'll keep your advice in mind. Owned by Remi #?
  7. If I could go back with my current knowledge I would think about getting licensed a lot differently. I realize now that those first 20 jumps were just the start of a series of hundreds more and looking back, it doesn't matter if it takes 20-30 or 100. Failing a level 4 a few times is just more opportunities to get out and play. "Failing" doesn't matter. Anyone with a license and a desire to flat fly has lots of room to learn too. I think this might sound a little cliche, but I really mean it. I wish I had let that part of my learning be more fun and less frustrating. Owned by Remi #?
  8. No more or less than DOS is. There are only so many options for designing a CLI. IIRC, One of Cisco's first aquisitions was a multi-protocol router called the "ship in the night" and it's OS was the foreunner of IOS. Owned by Remi #?
  9. The ASA isn't remotely a PITA. The newer ASDM is a much better tool than Cisco's previous SDM / web interfaces (which truly sucked) for the CLI impaired types out there. And FYI, neither the PIX nor the ASA run Unix. Older PIXs ran an OS called Finese and the newer versions run a modified IOS that's Cisco proprietary and nothing at all like Unix except for the inclusion of a few optional command like the ability to grep and a VI-like editing system. 10. MTU. 576 is the default X.25 setting, but Windows doesn't always set the correct default. As far as suggesting it... I think it's a long shot, but I've seen problems similar to the one he describes that are caused by weird / non-default MTU and fragmentation settings. But hey.. I just noticed he was DSL, not dial-up. Should be 1492 instead Owned by Remi #?
  11. Are you comfy mucking around in your registry? If so I have a suggestion: Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\ Interfaces\[Adapter ID] Where Adapter ID is going to be a big hex number representing the network adapter bound to your modem. Either find or create a DWORD value named MTU. Set the value to 1492 decimal (not hex) I'm not sure if a reboot will be necessary and you won't be prompted, so you might as well reboot. If you're shaky about playing in the registry, you may want to export that key before you add or change the DWORD value Owned by Remi #?
  12. Consider the point others have made, okay. You're asking anonymous strangers about gear that might or might not save your life. And then you're whining when you get a little tough advice. The answer is there for you to find all.by.your.self. If you want to skydive as much as you say, and if it's the passion that you claim then for gods sake figure out what gear you need by doing your own research or talking to real people. You have close to 80 jumps, right? Do you have a license? Someone trained you I hope? Believe it or not, there are people out there who actually want to help without blowing a rainbow up your ass. 13. Hey... listen. Yes, this is a "skydiving" website. If you ask questions in the "skydiving" forums and get answers that piss you off, then maybe you should look at your questions and the answers you get more seriously. Here in the bonfire, you'll probably get warmer, fuzzier answers. Good luck with that. Owned by Remi #?

  15. Hmmm.. well, yeah... that's pretty impressive too. I guess we'll have to find a fourth if you can find a lesbian. I'm chuckling with delight at the general idea... Owned by Remi #?
  16. NATE.... dude...you've suddenly inspired me. Come back to AerOhio this year. We can do a 3-way (a black man, a one-armed man, and a lesbian.) I seriously challenge ANY other DZ to put one of those together for 2009. Owned by Remi #?
