    Paying into Social Security is not an option. If you are employed, you are forced by the government to buy that insurance. If you've been forced to contribute to a retirement fund by the government, it's more than reasonable to claim your benefits when you are eligible. If the government forced you to buy fire insurance for your house from a specific company, you are not a hypocrite for asking for your benefits if your house burns down, even if you would rather have bought the insurance elsewhere.     I'm looking forward to expert answers but I'd like to take a guess before they chime in. I'd suspect that the concern would be that having an inexperienced person alone in freefall for any length of time would pose the risk of a high speed spin regardless of how high they are.... as long as they have time to develop the spin. I assume that means they would not be able to deploy a parachute at really altitudes either because they may not have sufficient o2 for such a long ride or the air density isn't good for canopy flight. Ultimately I have no idea but it's a great question. Oh hey. Colonel Joseph Kittenger, who made that Excelsior jump, has done a couple of interviews with Skydive Radio. The most recent wasn't long ago. Not more than 2 or 3 episodes I think. He seems like a very approachable guy and I'm pretty sure he gave out his email address during the interview.     Take another look at what Bill wrote and try to apply some reading comprehension (look it up). If you still don't get it, I'd suggest you discontinue all your other research until you can manage a paragraph. They are a hell of a lot more forgiving than the high-speed "oh shit" that happens in real life. And in skydiving and kit airplanes and in scuba.     Okay, guy. I will try a simple answer. I'm not sure its the same answer PD would give because they are the experts. I can only attempt a SWAG. The weights listed are the max weights PD recommends for each canopy. Those weights do not have a linear relationship with the canopy size. They may use exactly the same pattern for smaller sizes and make minor adjustments as they get larger. Also, as canopies change sizes, line lengths change and performance changes. Performance is also non linear. Again, this is all general speculation. Dave is really giving you good advice to just chill. The PD designers know what they are doing.
