ICE Wrongfully Shutters 84,000 Sites for Child Porn
labrys replied to labrys's topic in Speakers Corner
http://www.switched.com/2011/02/17/ice-accidentally-closes-84k-websites-child-porn-fears/ This probably caused irreparable damage to thousands of individuals and small business. Perhaps ICE should be more careful that the people hired to manage the technical aspects of these DNS seizures aren't grossly negligent jackasses. They should probably also consider leaving references to child pornography off of the banners until they have some actual evidence that each individual site being shuttered is actually warranted. I'm of the opinion that anyone who engages in crime that is directed specifically at children deserves the harshest possible punishment, and I also think that this type of "accidental" libel deserves harsher than normal consequences for those responsible. I'm pretty sure there are no dropzones on the island of Hawaii. Hang in here a while for other input though, maybe someone has opened one. Why not catch a puddle jumper to Oahu while you're there? It has a couple of nice DZs. Owned by Remi #?

Have you considered sending this by email to the folks on the USPA board or maybe also the AFF I/Es listed there? Good luck. I really hope she gets her chance. Owned by Remi #?

I couldn't get past the first volume of the Goodkind books. It was like reading the condensed written version of a comic book. The George RR Martin books are much more rewarding other than that George can't be bothered to actually write another book to finish it up.. The best book I've finished lately is Enders Game ( not End Game) by Orson Scott Card. That's all the pretense of implied intellect I can summon this late in the day. Owned by Remi #?

The only references to following manufacturers guidelines in the FAR that covers tandems is the proper use of the harness and the maintenance of the AAD. Like I said in my last post, there may be another FAR that mentions always following all manufacturors guidelines, but if there is, there should be no need to make specific references to harnesses and AADs in this FAR. There may be some over-riding requirement, but there isn't anything explicit in the tandem regs other than for the AAD, as far as I can see. Perhaps it's just a little too vague for the manufacturers. Or they want the restriction to apply outside the bounds of the FAA. Owned by Remi #?

I would like to discuss this as well. The same logbook you mention also has a signature block, yet here is a student with a question about whether or not a signature is required. This is a student. It's nice to be able to provide a simple technical reference to answer that question and provide some learning. If you don't agree with the requirements why not work toward becoming one of the people who set the standards rather than bringing questions about guidelines and training standards into a students mind? Before someone is licensed, they spend a number of jumps both solo and with instructors and coaches. USPA requires that all jumps, coached or not, include specific information. Some of the informatio they require includes the aircraft exited, the equipment used, exit altitude, landing accuracy, etc. You may feel that this information has no value to a student but the fact is that this information has value for the instructors and coaches who ultimately work with the student to help them get that license. That means that in the long run, those logging requirements help both students and instructors put a big picture together during training. Does that make sense now? Owned by Remi #?

Sounds like you might want to read the SIM too. Owned by Remi #?

Yes. They not only need to be signed, the log entires must include specific information. Read here at section C: http://www.uspa.org/SIM/Read/Section3/tabid/165/Default.aspx And then start at the beginning and read through to the end. Owned by Remi #?

There are a handful of dropzones that advertise 16 as their minimum age or welcome anyone 16 or older. There are a great many more dropzones that will allow 16 year olds, but usually only when they already know the 16 year old. If you're truly interested in skydiving, call around to some of your local DZs and see if they need packers and would be willing to teach you how to pack parachutes, that way you can learn about jumping, earn a little money to actually jump, and build a relationship that could get you up in the air. I think there's a middle ground. I almost never go to anything but my home DZ, but if a visitor I enjoyed jumping with said "Hey, drop by my home DZ once in a while so you can meet my friends" (not "Your DZ sucks, mine is better) and was willing to drop by my DZ once in a while, I'll do it and it's a wash for both DZs as far as business goes. of course not - you have decoder rings with radio receivers, right? My decoder ring keeps translating every message I get as "Drink More Ovaltine. Owned by Remi #?

That's very astute. We have so many online metrics to manipulate now that there is no reasonable way to trust any of them beyond the small group you can actually talk to and interact with. When I was wet behind the ears my dream was to work in a world that helped people communicate and spread access to information resources world wide. I got my wish. So I think I own responsibility for making it easier for the vitriolic to spread their message too. I didn't see that coming when I was 20.. Owned by Remi #?

You're probably right about a scew to some degree.... but I think that the percentage reflects a subset that tends to read the same blogs, go to the same news sources, listen to the same radio programs, etc. The gay population probably has a statistically similar subset of jackasses as the straight community. It just chaps my ass that the average SC poster who can rub enough brain cells together to understand that the Westboro Baptist Church and their ilk who live in a warped, hateful and corrupt world do not represent the vast majority of good people in the church.seem okay with lumping the gay community into a single entity without a second thought. Yeah, I know chicken sandwiches and the shit WBC pull are not in the same league. And I understand that many SC posters do not make assumptions and criticisms. I'm speaking to the ones who don't like it when they are stereotyped but have no problem telling "me" that they disagree with my lifestyle or find "me" immoral, distasteful, or whine. Maybe some of the people who post here will eventually come to to realization that being gay doesn't mean you're a whining, dishonest, hateful, harmful, selfish Jackass too. Fuck it. It's cold, I want to jump, I have a massive toothache. I'm grumpy.Quote Owned by Remi #?
