I'm unhappy about the Skyhook ad in the October Parachutist

Jan already said it, but I'd like to repeat it. This is EXACTLY why it rubbed me wrong... the ad includes a reserve handle pull under a standard RSL. Why? Because that's our trained procedure. Why? Because amongst many other reasons, that RSL shackle may be or have been disconnected. What you got out of that ad was that if you cutaway with a Skyhook under an open canopy, your reserve will deploy. The implication is clear to me anyway. Your Skyhook will not forgive a disconnected shackle any more than a standard RSL will. The ad implies otherwise. Owned by Remi #? -

I agree with your thoughts to some extent but my original point stands: Why did they include pulling silver as a non-Skyhook necessity and why didn't they include it as a Skyhook necessity. I'm not looking at this in an attempt to pick apart all possible faults with the company or the device. I intend to buy one when I buy my next rig. I have a problem with the implications of the ad. My problem with the ad is specific and black and white to me, but maybe not to others. I'm not thinking about what possible legal consequences there are or who's resonsibility it is to make sure someone follows correct EPs, I'm looking at at the specific implications of the ad and voicing my opinion about it. I think it's a shame that some of the posters here can't seem to voice a dissenting opinion, which I would gladly listen to and thoughtfully consider, without calling anyone who has a different opinion an idiot or a loser or a jackass or a moron. This isn't even close to my intent. I have a lot of respect for the Skyhook. Implying that I posted my concern as some sort of lark or that I'm just trying to incite a mob is a gross misunderstanding of my intentions and an insult. I feel that I have a legitimate opinion and that this forum is a legitimate place to discuss it. Owned by Remi #? -

I see it this way I guess: ALWAYS stick to your standard EPs, but in case you have an RSL of any type... that device will probably beat you to it, still go for silver though, cause that's your EP.. Owned by Remi #? -

Okay... I understand that. I'm amused by ads that imply that if I by this handcam hot chicks will suddenly swarm around me, or that if I buy that rig I'll suddenly be infused with the RW skills of a seasoned Arizona Airspeed team member. I'm NOT amused by ads selling safety gear that even remotely imply a change in EPs. If the ad had omitted a reserve pull on BOTH sets of gear I would have moved along without a second thought. What rubs me the wrong way if that the ad specifically includes a reserve pull for non-Skyhook RSLs and doesn't include it for Skyhook. Owned by Remi #? -

My point was that I was annoyed by advertisemnt that conflicted with proper procedure. Your post supports that observation. Edit to add: Let me make this analogy: I'm going to design a new canopy. then I'm going to take out an ad in Parachutist and say something like this: Your old canopy... flare when you land My new canopy... just smile and land Any jackass would know I really meant you still had to flare my canopy too? AND they would read the manual BEFORE they bought my canopy so that they would know I was just being "cute" when I implied there was no need to flare. Owned by Remi #? -

Or the same highly respected and experienced jumper who uses a Cypres 2 that's advertised as great for "Pond Swooping"? then goes in under a downplane after the Cypres fires because he exceeded it's limits? Owned by Remi #? -

So.. if I wanted to take out an ad for standard RSLs in Parachutist it would be fine if I implied there was no need to follow a cutaway with a reserve pull because you would know I meant otherwise? Owned by Remi #? -

Back to my original point then... if it's so obvious why was it included in the non-Skyhook procedure? Owned by Remi #? -

I don't follow your train of thought.... there's nothing a standard RSL or Skyhook can do to help with a total mal. Owned by Remi #? -

What do you call paying for that full page ad if not advocation? Why include it in the non-Skyhook procedure if it's implied that one will follow full EP's regardless of having an RSL or not? Owned by Remi #? -

I've been paying acute attention to any thread I can find discussing the Skyhook and everything I've seen or heard makes me think it's a great innovation. I admire the effort and time taken to develop it. That said: There's a full page ad for Skyhook on page 46 of the Oct Parachutist that rubs me wrong. It compares EP's with and without Skyhook. On the left half of the page is the "Non-Skyhook Cutaway Procedure" 1. Cutaway 2. Get Stable or Not 3. Pull Reserve Handle 4. Reserve Deploying On the right half of the page: The Skyhook procedure 1. Cutaway 2. Smile I'm annoyed that the Skyhook procedure omits pulling the reserve handle. Owned by Remi #? -

I work for a company that provides service for them. I also have one. Functionally, it's outstanding but mechanically it leaves a lot to be desired. It tends to lock up and require a soft reset when I lose signal (a very common problem with our clients who use them also). There was a firmware update to correct that problem but it didn't work well at all. My biggest (and weirdest) complaint is the design of the touch screen. When it's in phone mode and I'm listening to my voicemail my ear sometimes touches the screen at the "2" key and deletes my messages . You might have to see one to understand that. I find the camera almost useless. Mine usually produces dim and fuzzy images. If I had a better quality phone with the same features I'd love it Owned by Remi #?

Chkdsk should be able to find and flag bad sectors. Try formatting and then chkdsk before restoring the stuff from DVD. NTFS and XP shouldn't have issues with 1600 subfolders. Owned by Remi #?

Got any idea what file system the HDD is using? That changes the number of subfolders it can handle Owned by Remi #?
