    If you cleared the problem above your hard deck then it's my opinion that you did the right thing. I also would say that you did the right thing if you decided to cut away. It's your decision and yours alone. Some people might say that not trying to clear a problem all the way to your hard deck robs you of a little extra margin of safety but I'm not inclined to second guess anyone. Everyone has the option to choose what their own hard deck will be. I'm betting that's why you hear different opinions. When I started, I stuck with the USPA student recommendation of 2500 feet for students for a while. Now that I've had a few cutaways and have a few jumps I've lowered it to 1800 feet.     One of the factors you didn't mention is how close to the ground you were when you deployed and how close to the ground you were when you cleared the twists.     I'll burn a few more calories on my response and not care if the OP is a troll. If you want to be a tandem instructor then find a mentor who is already a TI. Ask and learn in person. Spend your next couple of hundred jumps nailing perfect exits. Learn how tandem gear works. You have a lot of time before you're qualified to use it. Spend time on the ground with people who come to your DZ wanting to do tandems. Learn why they come and what motivates them. Learn how to motivate them to come back. Learn what their fears are and learn how to help them relax without being dishonest. Learn how to be a good ambassador (I have no idea how to spell that) of the sport. Then decide whether or not you are truly willing to be 100% responsible for the lives of the students you may jump with. Owned by Remi #?

    8 jumps in 4 days sounds great. You'll learn a lot. Those usually indicate membership in various clubs or cliques within the skydiving community. As a rule of thumb as a novice you shouldn't have a canopy that's smaller than your weight in all your equipment and the canopy should not be considered "high performance". After only 8 jumps you would probably want to be even more conservative than that. Your best bet would be to have your instructors make a recommendation after they have seen you fly and land. You can also look at the recommendations of the canopy manufacturers. They generally have charts that list skill levels and maximum weights for their canopies. Owned by Remi #?
