I'm not stating that the founding fathers didn't do an excellent job of trying to ensure that the government didn't endorse one religion over another. But the prevailing religion of our leaders has been Christianity...and it's principles. And it comes into play all the time. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

This is not a popularity contest. Bush has made decisions that have not set well with other countries. I don't remember the presidential oath reading "I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, so long as the rest of the world thinks it's OK. It was, of course, founded by christians, and their collective experiences shaped the original documents and the language those documents used. Language, however, is not the same as intent. Saying "bless you" when someone sneezes does not denote religious intent, any more than celebrating halloween makes you a pagan. Good point. However, just about every leader this country has drawn on their faith in Christianity to guide their decision making process. It's still the moral compass the founding fathers used for their ideas...for their knowledge of right v. wrong. For the record I'm not a religious man. They want to do lots of things...so do Dems. I don't think it's going to change. Maybe I'm wrong. I'm against abortion and pro-choice at the same time. I beleive it's murder, but I don't believe I have the right to impose my views on women. I believe the decision ultimatley lies with them, and they have to live with the consequences. I got a girl pregnant when I was 16. She had an abortion. No one knew about it. I'm torn by that sequence of events. Today I would have a 33 year old son or daughter. That didn't hit home until my children were born. But I also know it was the correct decision at the time. I'm glad I had that option. I think deep down alot of conservatives feel as I do. All of the participants, with the exception of Mr. Gore, participated in reflective interviews of their thoughts and feelings about thier performances. Hell, even J. Bill you know as well as I do that this country was founded on christian beliefs. You'd have to be blind to miss that. References towards God and christianity have gone hand in hand with every administration. I would still like a direct answer to this question: Have you stopped beating your wife yet? Yes, I realize it's a bogus question, but so is your's. In the same way that I should demonstrate that you were beating your wife in the first place before asking my question, you need to first demonstrate that the tissue attached to a rape victim's uterus is, in fact, a person. In my opinion, this cannot be proven one way or the other to the satisfaction of all, therefore a reasonable person would let others make up their own minds. Alternately, why should a rape victim have to suffer through even more physical and emotional trauma than she's already experienced? Shouldn't we try to minimize her pain to the extent practicable (but only so far as her beliefs allow)? Blues, Dave I understand everyone's concern with Palin's pro-life/no exceptions stance. Nothing her parents do make it ok to use an adolescent's private matters as political fodder. The mother may deserve it; the point is the daughter doesn't. So it's OK to use your family to promote your "family values" agenda, but when your family shows up how hollow your agenda really is, it's off limits? I think hollow ia a stretch. I am afraid of the religious right taking over this country. I laughed when I read this. You should be afraid of the religious right taking back this country. Holy crap! Let's see...In God We Trust...umm..how about When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them or perhaps "one nation, under god" It's only been in my lifetime that religion has taken a back seat in politics. I agree with you but with one exception. I think that the pregnancy is worth mentioning ONLY because of it's commentary on the effectiveness of the "abstinence only" sex education model. As opposed to the impressive effectiveness of the "sex education in schools" policy? How people choose to educate their children regarding sex is their business. There is no correct answer. Each prove equally effective or ineffective depending on your viewpoint. Either way, teens will continue to get pregnant. A huge majority of them will take the easier way out.
