I think I might move to Canada. You folks seem to have your priorities straight. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

Please explain what particular problem prompted this SCIENCE investigation? www.newsweek.com/event-horizon-telescope-black-hole-image-583461 The "problem" is we don't know enough about black holes. Do we need to know more about black holes? Other than a search for knowledge I'm not sure. We certainly aren't suggesting we change our economic engine model to account for black holes. So now you're backpedaling and saying that "search for knowledge" is a problem. R i g h t. I would have thought a perfesser with your edumacation might grasp the written word a little mo' betta. I never said the search for knowledge was a problem. I said I'm not sure if we need to be doing that. See...the words not sure. I know these 2 words are like a foreign language to most liberals like you sir who are unwaveringly sure of everything you say and do, never entertaining the possibility that you might be wrong, and are unafraid to cram it down people's throats. I'll look at this one later but now your source is a West Virginia mining engineer from his 2006 website? Hmmmm...... "Monte Hieb is the author of several popular web pages skeptical of Anthropogenic Global Warming, serving as a evangelist for the viewpoint (he does not state his qualification in climatology or a related science). He is an employee at the West Virginia Office of Miner’s Health, Safety, and Training." West Virginia mining engineer he's a freaking coal miner! I know you like to dismiss people who are in the fossil fuels business but doesn't it make sense if your livelihood is under attack you might want to try and fight back just a little? AND your view is hopelessly wrong. You really believe in a 340,000,000,000 dollar industry there is no competition for government funding? That the possibility of massaged data to insure grant money isn't a possibility? Here's a list of the Federally Funded Research & Development Centers. What other government program with that budget is squeaky clean? I think you need to step away from the chalkboard and look around. A good point. But I don't hear anyone talking about transition. I hear talk of changing the outcome. And we're talking about making changes based on information dating back to the 1800's? A small slice of the millions of years of earth history. And there has been some good work done. I can't have spray deodorant. A small price to pay to reduce the ozone hole. But we sit and fret about so much that we think is in our control when in reality it isn't. Humans love to think they're in control. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

The smoking comparison is a poor one. If I smoke two packs a day there's no guarantee that it will kill me. We already have the evidence that shows smoking is causing damage. Unless I'm missing something the question isn't whether the earth is warming...it is. The question is what's causing it. Hardly the same situation. What science has settled that man is the cause? Not that a bunch of scientists concur. We don't elect leaders by the popular vote either. And in my view scientists need there to be a problem so someone will pay them to investigate. I did. So are you saying that NOAA is not a trustworthy source for information? Or is it just not trustworthy when it doesn't agree with your religion? And are you OK with the "dice roll" analogy? In every article I read I see a lot of use of the words possibly or might be, things of that nature. I thought the science was settled. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

So it is a religion. There are 2 stories. God is real. God isn't real. And your response is neither is to be believed. Yet you believe in this theory of man made global warming. What day do you worship? There's even prayers... https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS720US720&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=global+warming+prayer Please don't dent the planet. All of it true. Of course if you had the first, the 2nd or 3rd aren't necessary. We've had pretty much 8 years of attempting to appease radical Islam. It doesn't work. Lobbing cruise missiles from afar doesn't work very well either. Boots on the ground don't work without a goal and an exit strategy and I don't think anyone here is advocating for getting a third front started. As an aside, why are we still in Afghanistan? " GET IN THE HOLE !!!!!!!!!!! " ..... HE is the SCREAMER that drives me crazy. Right after a putt is tapped, some DUDE has to SCREAM it. You never hear the ladies yelling get it the hole. Thanks girls.

Your hero Bill Clinton didn't either. Ah, the old "two wrongs make a right" argument. I'm sure you were just beside yourself when Slick Willy lobbed tomahawks without asking permission. And what did you think when Clinton fired some cruise missiles? Did you think "Great, this will show all the world's bad guys that there's a strong new sheriff in town!" Really? I thought it was a good start. Unfortunately Bill lacked the intestinal fortitude to finish the job. Imagine how different the world might be today had he taken down Bin Laden when given the chance...on multiple occasions. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

Your over-simplification is astounding. The effect of this was worldwide. It gives notice to Putin, to Jong-Un, and all the state sponsors of terrorism. There's a new sheriff in town. I know you don't agree with this assessment. I've always believed that projecting weakness invites attack. But that is exactly what you did. Project weakness. You lobbed a bunch of missiles, after warning the Russians and were unable to hit anything of consequence. Bombing runs were flown a few hours later from the airport hit. Have you considered the possibility that the runways were left usable to see if Assad would tone down his use? It doesn't look like he did. I guess we'll have to build more cruise missiles. We took out a bunch of aircraft. I'm sure that hurts the effort. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

I'm going to assume that you are a younger person. We "more experienced" types have seen the media morph from reporting the news to using the news as a tool to get ratings. I'll give you one example...Weather Channel. Back in the day The Weather Channel was just a channel where you could see the forecast. It served it's purpose well. It was all I ever wanted or needed it to be. But that doesn't sell commercials. Take a look at the screen capture. "Disaster '17" (For some reason I can't upload the screen capture but you get the idea) That's a real eye-catcher and to the uninitiated a scary prognosis. No longer sufficient to just report the forecast TWC has become the Weather Sensationalize Channel. And this example can be seen everywhere. Why? Because there's no money in unbiased reporting of the facts. I understand that you don't feel threatened by the prospect of a Nuclear War. People in my generation and older grew up with the constant reminder of the possibility. Now, it's hardly even talked about. I don't understand why. It's still the threat it was before, and in some cases I say the threat is even higher now. There's some much noise and so much competition for your attention that you have difficulty analyzing a perceived threat versus a real one. If you are truly worried about a global apocalypse think about how warm it would get if the more than 4,000 operational nukes were detonated. Followed by some serious global cooling. I'm 41 and have a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Military Institute, grew up in various parts of the world having been a Navy Brat, but most of my life I was in/near Washington D.C. I spent my youth well aware that the forward positions in which we lived in Europe were first strike zones since my father was a repair officer for nuke subs (mostly fast attack), I wrote several paper while at VMI on nuclear weaponry under the guidance of officers in the Submarine Navy. Take that for what it is. Edit: Conclusion: Global Thermonuclear is good for the environment. Shall we play a game? OK...you are more than qualified. Yet you don't see the threat? Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne
