  1. Congrats to Bonnar for making it to the finals. He is one of the nice guys on the show, so I've been pulling for him from the start. His wrestling skilsl paid off in the semi0final last night. He kept his composure in some pretty wild positions. He got that arm bar sunk in with like 5 seconds left in the round...that was awesome! I'm hoping we can get that fight played on the big screen at SDC this weekend. I'm setting the VCR at home to tape it, just in case.
  2. I'm not sure that you need to spend the money on tunnel time. But if i was in your shoes, i'd go for it. I've seen a lot of people struggle through AFF, and then come back from one tunnel trip and kick butt through the rest of the student jumps. Pay one of the tunnel instructors for some coaching, it'll be money well spent. Make sure they know about your previous jumps and that you are starting AFF over. I'd also let your DZ know that you are doing that, and see if they can combine a level or two somewhere down the line. I know DZs that have done that for people who spent time in the tunnel. It's worth asking...what's the worst they can say? How much tunnel time to get, that's another question. If I was in your shoes, I'd to do ten minutes on one day, then another ten the next day. If you're limited to one day, I'd do 15 minutes. Any less and i'm not sure how much you'll be able to learn. An hour in one day is way too much, even 30 minutes in a day is pushing it. Good luck, let know how it goes
  3. or go work for a pharmacy that doesn't carry them. As I read it, this new contraceptive law only applies to you if your pharmacy carries contraceptives. There is no law that says you have to carry them. The case behind this law was that a woman decided to sue the pharmacy because they refused to fill the script. She could have gone to another pharmacy a get the stuff. She chose to sue the pharmacy. The pharmacy owner should make a decision. Either sell the stuff and hire people who will fill the script, or stop selling them altogether. He messed up my choosing to sell it, but hiring a person who refused to serve them. A Jewish friend bought a restaurant. He hired his family to work there. Rather than ask them to serve pork, he took all the pork items off the menu. The pork eaters started going to a different place for dinner...and nobody got sued. Would you keep going to my friends restaurant and asking for pork chops? No, you go somewhere else. The pharmacy owners are gonna do the same thing with contraceptives. You shouldn't put up with anyone refusing to serve you a product that they sell. Complain to management and see if they fire that person. If they don't, feel free to go to a different pharmacy...you have a choice. I can't wait to see the lawyers battle this one. If you don't fill this script, you should be fired for not doing your job. But employees are gonna sue, saying they were fired because of his/her beliefs. But you were fired for refusing to do your job. This law gives the business owner some protection, so he/she can fire your ass for hassling my customers. The lawyers are gonna have fun with this one.
  4. Never done it, but there is a lot of information at http://canopypiloting.tempwebpage.com/cgi-bin/gforum/gforum.cgi?forum=16;
  5. I heard they started digging it this week. No word on when it will be ready to use. Maybe somebody else knows.
  6. My friend Eduardo DIED in 2004 doing exactly that. Please, for the love of god, don't mess around with this! It is dangerous on all canopies, but on some canopies is creates an unrecoverable malfunction.
  7. I think the baby seals would disagree with the idea of Canada as utopia http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1513243;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread
  8. Even if you site the alaska ruling...i don't see how you win that bet. In Alaska there is no such thing as rape...according to the law. The bet is whether a man can be raped by a woman. According to the law in alaska, women can't be raped...so how can a man be raped? You need to find a jurisdiction that has rape defined in a non-gender specific manner. Since you in the UK, it appear that you lose the legal arguement. http://www.wordiq.com/definition/Rape The only way to win is to convince the person that your bet did not require law or legal precedent. The dictionary definition paints a different picture of rape. http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=rape You can also look for rape counseling centers to support your claim. http://66.216.123.69/RTC/Facts+and+Quotes/Definitions/Facts+Overview.htm
  9. billiruben does a lot...but the coolest thing it does is make your urine yellow and your poop brown. http://www.rnceus.com/lf/lfbili.html
  10. the MWSL meet will be from an Otter. Too many teams training for Nationals to have it out the PAC. I hope the PAC will be there that weekend, it'd be nice for the canopy piloting competition on Sunday.
  11. freeze a can shaving cream, it takes a day or two. open the can with a can opener. You'll have a solid block frozen cream. Put that in his desk. As it thaws, it expands. Make sure to remove anything of value...it is messy! put several drops of hot sauce on the chair in his office. It dries, so there is feeling feeling of wetness when you sit down. But the stuff that makes it burn your toungue (capsaicin) will also give a burning sensation on your skin. from my experience it was not enough make you freak out call the doctor...just enough that spend all day squirming trying to make it go away.
  12. 3m is pretty colse close to 10' but 1m is way off 5'. Unless the 'm' represents miles, then both are way off. damn typo! the gates are 1.5m and 3m
  13. Are you talking about the fact the cover reads APRIL 2004? That is pretty embarrassing.
  14. any part pf the body. If was the whole body, the Pro Swoop Tour would be filled with midgets...since they use a 5' tall entry gate. We need more midget skydivers!
  15. If I was going somewhere for a month I'd choose one of these two: Perris Valley, California - great weather, tunnel, great swoop park. There is also some neat stuff to see in San Diego. Zephyrhills is a one of several great DZs in the Orlando, Florida area. Lots of cool non-jumping things to do while you're there.
  16. officially it's 1.m and 3m...which is pretty close to 5' and 10'
  17. The maximum heart rate, from what I understand, is the fastest your heart to go. Any faster than that and you risk breaking the darn thing. I saw a show in FitTV where they tested a guy for his max heart rate. They treated it like freefall speed. How fast can you go? There is only one way to find out...go do it! They put the guy on an elliptical and told him go as fast as possible. Eventually the heart rate hits a peak, similar to terminal velocity. Terminal is a bad word to use when discussing heart rates. Terminal heart rate is 0...regardless of age or weight. they did some tests before hand, just make sure wasn't gonna have a heart attack...so i don't suggest doing this without medical supervision. His actual max heart rate was like 205. According to the calulation for a fit person his max should have been 185. That guy was a pretty hard core...so i expect him to be above average. Based on that, I'll accept the formulae on that web page to be good enough. I don't like the other calculations available on that site. According to the body equations I am 15.8% or 52% body fat, depending on which method you believe. According to my fat scale at home and the one at the gym, I'm actually about 27%.
  18. great explanation! As a side note, you should really do both types. One burns fat, which good for a fat bastard like me. The other improves heart and lung functions...and just about every other system in the body. I do 20-40 minutes of anaerobic (slow heart rate) stuff every day. On the days that do 20 minutes, I follow that up with 40 minutes of aerobic(high heart rate) work. I'm down 10% on the body fat scale...and working to see another 10. I try not to worry about body weight. I lift weights, so my body weight doesn't change...but it sure looks nicer! And it's much healthier.

  20. It's probably too cold for one this weekend.. But there will be a small, invitation only, seminar on proper dinner selections for cross country jumps. The first "dinner cruise" jump of the season will be the sushi load...complete with saki, spicy tuna rolls and spider rolls! I can't wait!!!
  21. I take pretty bad pictures too...my skin is VERY pale!
  22. I never miss the expo. Kallends' freefall drift seminar is worth listening to...as are all the presentations. I learned to fly my canopy five years ago by listening to a presentation hosted by John Leblanc from PD. Every year I learn something new. This year is special for me. Missy has asked to give a presentation...maybe two. It's not on the schedule, so you'll have to look for it when you get there. With the help of Missy Nelson we are adding VRW to the Midwest Skydiving League. There may be 2-way, 4-way and 2-way sit divisions. We are also meeting with Jim Slaton at the Expo to finalize the deal that announces me as the director of the Chicago Canopy Piloting Circuit. So we'll have something for everyone...except those crazy skysurfers and the freaky Freestylers!
  23. Apparently he was nominated for a Nobel Prize...it's on his website, so it must be true http://www.hni-online.com/
  24. For these canopy piloting events it is important that we talk about the skills require for the competition...and that means HP landings. I've got 700 jumps...would you invite me on an 8-way head down? I hope not, I have 3 sit jumps and I have NEVER been head down. The same logic applies to canopy piloting. That's why the requirements are based on the number of high performance landings...not total skydives. Get some canopy coaching this season...we'll watch for you in the 2006 competitions!
  25. We're doing our best counteract the medical advances by being the fattest, least physically active generation. Someone told me that the current crop of high school students could lower the life expectancy by 3-5 years because of the high rate of childhood obesity. One concern is whether the food supply can keep up with the demand. We've already got a lot of starving people...if we start living longer, that's only gonna get worse. If the food supply can't keep up, then we should stop trying to live longer. Beyond the food supply issue, I am all for living longer as long as it's a functional old age. If you're 90, but haven't been out of bed in ten years...is that really living? My great-grandmother lived to be 99...and she was able to drive a car and live on her own right up to the last year. That was great. My grandmother is 85. She has dimentia, she's blind from advanced glaucoma, severly diabetic, constantly on morphine for the pain of bone cancer and has been bed ridden for a 18 months. As much as I hate to see her die, the person I know as my grandmother has been gone for the last 3 years. All the medical advances are keeping her alive...but I don't think it's worth it. It's not fair to her, the family, or the medical system. We're all waiting for her to die. One of her doctors suggested that we stop giver her insulin. She'd slip into a diabetic coma and die pain free. The family is still debating it. I can relate to the Terry Schiavo case...without the press or the courts.
