  1. Suz, Can you feel the metal in your cheek? Hint: see the responses to the other gal (or open the attachment). Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?
  2. Dave, not a tornado watch, a cyclone watch. Here in the US they are called hurricanes. They can spawn tornados, but are a different beast all together. Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?
  3. Don't look to me, man! Lynn didn't like my choices, either: Girl -- Laverne Sybil Boy -- Cleophus Aloysius. Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?
  4. Several have PMed me to move or cross this into this forum from TalkBack so date the following from last Friday: The fog moved in this morning and didn't burn off until about 1330 here in Jacksonville. We got out to the new DZ about 1400 and manifested for Skyvan load 2. When we gathered in the pre-boarding area, we got the standard brief from out S&TA stating that we would be flying a left- hand pattern and landing towards the T-hangers to the south of the LZ. Load 2 was a light load, a six-way exited first, then Lynn and I, followed by the S&TA with a returning jumper doing a recurrency jump, a high pulling solo and pair were last out. Our jump went well, got three docks on Lynn and even fruit-looped her on the second one. Deployment was normal, and then it got interesting: I saw someone well below me with a nasty looking canopy which then became two canopies. I set off to follow the cutaway main, it looked like the jumper was after his free bag. As the main went into the top of a tree, I set my pattern to land in the clear on a straight line with it. I flew my left hand pattern and as I passed the jumper (now safely on the ground), I hollered that it was in the tree, and I realized it was none other than our S&TA! He had his freebag and all his handles; I asked him what had happened and he said he had a longer than normal snivel, followed by line twists. Just as he kicked out the twists, his audible went flatline and he thought "Oh, shit!" as the CyPReS got scared ($1 to billvon). The canopies went side by side and were starting to go to a downplane when he cut away. The title quote comes from his call to Cliff Schmucker to order a new cutter. The S&TA? Glenn Bangs. 5. There really is not a whole lot more to the story. He went low, had a long snivel w/line twists, and his audible alarm went off about the same time the CyPReS got scared (remember the computer makes the decision to fire several hyndred feet before it fires - nominally about 1200 feet or so). He cut away the main because the canopies were going into a downplane configuration. The billvon reference is a usenet tradition -- if you use someone else's phrase, you own them a (cyber) dollar. On reflection, the phrase "scaring the CyPReS" may not be bill's, it may well be Winsor's, or someone else's, though it seems to be a billvonism to me. All that is really not the "interesting" aspect of this event, though. Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?

  7. In the time i have seen you here, you have always been nice to meor were it sarcasm Yes i know..hotmail..But im only online at my gf place,is it okay for awhile I seccond Dave,he should atleast have another mailadress Nice bit of snipping, Faber. I know Englis is not your first language, but you could at least read the entire comment before getting your knickers in a twist. Dave said he had problems taking seriously someone who used a frr email addy such as Hotmail or Yahoo!for their business address. Your snipping of his quote lends a completely different meaning. If it was an attemp at humor, it didn't work. Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?

  9. 1 cut away main followed(see "Another Test Case For CyPReS):5:0 A much warmer and pleasant weekend than last, though not as many tandems. Had terrific flybys from Rob both Saturday and on departure last night. This is going to be a nice DZ. Oh, on the last load of the day yesterday, Billy Z tried out the DZ's latest wrinkle as he did live air-to-ground video of the 8 way. There are a couple bugs in the system, but will be worked out shortly. Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?

  21. No, not at all. Well the line of this thread has already answered the question of who and where if you follow the forums at all. The only question left is why, the answer to this could perhaps help someone else avoid being in the same situation; I thought that is the reason for airing/discussing incidents in the first place. How the fork are we going to learn from this incident? Is what we are learning is that some people's feelings are more important than our safety? 22. AFAIK: a horseshoe is when any part of your chute is attached to you or your rig, someplace else than at your risers. Ie you got your bridle around your arm/leg, some lines got caught by your camera helmet, your pilotchute is still in its pouch but the main is already out, ... This may be a matter of semantics, but I don't think so -- what you are referring to is/was referred to by my instructors as an entanglement. We use the term horsehsoe to refer specifically to an out of sequence deployment, that is, the bag leaves the container with the pilot chute still stowed, just as Kevin states. 23. Especially in a case like this when Prof. Kallend is posilutely correct. Hell, all parties involved need not even be flying BTE to be doing relative work; I guarantee that I have to use a lot more "advanced" body positions to dock on my wife while she is sit flying than I did on the dz.com large way attempts. 24. 95 tandem students babysat:2:0 Spent the weekend at the first weekend of the PIA/Grand Opening Boogie of Jacksonville ExtremeSports. We got most of the bugs worked out of the manifest/student system by Sunday. Things should be a bit less hectic until Friday when we start up big time again. Got a bunch of tandems booked for Saturday and Sunday again. BTW, a group of tandem students Saturday got the right idea quickly -- they left the DZ after their jumps and returned with a keg 'o' beer. They have shown great potential. We all appreciated it.
