And we have a new rigger in the house, too

I'll second that. Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them? -
Only if they were skydiving related. Unless, of course, you just NEED four cases of beer. Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?

Dang, that just conjured up visions of The Four Whoresmen Of The Apocalypso! (Picture the Lippenzaner Stallions and their riders decked out in Caribbean garb...) Really, the '60s and '70s didn't cause me any dain bramage, I've always been this wired, er, ah, umm, weird. Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. I was sick alot when I was a kid (chronic bronchitis) so I have a lot of 'sperience with this. Jewish penicillin (chicken soup) is very effective, the hotter it is the better. My favorite thing, however, was a 50/50 mix of 7Up and OJ over ice; it almost made getting sick something to look forward to. Really, the biggest thing is to stay hydrated, but it sure doesn't hurt if the liquids taste good. Unfortunately, the liquids should not include good stuff like beer, because the alcohol actually contributes to the dehydration. Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. PST's "Out of The Blue" DVD: Did they cancel it or what?
jceman replied to parachutist's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Lyle and Jim are in Brazil for the South American qualifier. They well be back next week. When I last spoke with them, the DVD was in duplication. Shipment should start shortly. If I hear anything to the contrary, I will post it here. Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them? -
OK. I'll bite. So you got lucky once. You didn't jump, so how did you come to owe 4 cases of beer for firsts? Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?

Given the number of times I bounced (three) and the divots in the rock-hard ground of the helicopter landing hill at Quincy that convention, I am most assuredly on bonus days since the 14th of August, 1998. That is a very good statement. Here is another way to look at it, there are way too many puppies that need homes. Toby obviously appreciated his home and now has left room for a puppy who needs you to stand in his stead. Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Just a couple comments to wrap up the weekend's activities and an update. It looks like it was a very active weekend, with a number of "interesting" skydives. I'm so glad that all seem to be ok, and send my best regards to those who were injured; may they heal quickly. AD and Matt chose to post their adventures in the Gen Skydiving forum vs the Incidents; I am not saying this was in appropriate, but neither would have been inappropriate in Incidents -- it is not only for fatals. All in all, I'm glad they both had the ability to make that choice. the Update? TLML is pretty sore, but did work yesterday and today after icing herself down Saturday night. When she go home today she said "Well, I have a bruise now!" and dropped her shorts to show me a nice 8 inch square multicolored patch just below her left hip! Let's all have another good weekend next time, but let's try to keep the adventures down a bit, ok? Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. What not to do (how the Aggie almost died)
jceman replied to AggieDave's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Not disputing you, old bean, just want to make sure that the lessons are mulled over by all, including the "victim". All lessons learned are not realized at the moment, it is only upon reflection and review that the true lessons are realized and adjustments to thinking are made. Just because a plan worked does not mean that it cannot be improved upon. Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them? -
Bear in mind that I do not shoot video and have never made any money from a video, I encourage everyone to get video of their first jump. Forget about the cost, it is immaterial, the main thing to remember is there will only ever be one first jump. If you never make another jump, you will always have video of that one. If you do continue jumping, you will have the video to go back to so you can both remember and perhaps laugh at yourself. My wife and I went straight to AFF and both got video. I can't tell you the number of times those tapes have been played. If you jump, no matter what fashion, get the dang thing on video! Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Yeah, Dave, what they said! I agree with all that is it good we are reading this straight from the horse's mouth rather than an Incident Report. I also agree that you need to carefully review your personal guidelines -- not to say that they need to be changed, but after any such close call, they need to be reviewed with your newly acquired knowledge in mind. If changes need to be made, such as decision altitude or procedures you will follow; if you feel no changes need to be made, at the very least you can be confident that they are closely reasoned. Now, with apologies to Lisa: [Grandpa_Voice]Damnit, Dave, don't do that again![/Grandpa_Voice] Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. 1 badly shaken spouse:2:0 After weeks of lousy weather, we were greeted with a fine morning and a beautiful day. Made one jump with Lynn and had a ball. Made a second and again had a ball up until landing time. We had discussed the rotors coming off the trees and where to land to avoid them; well, to make a long story short, in my attempt to avoid the rotors, I took it a bit long and just missed landing on a small hangar! Lynn was not as lucky, she was getting bounced around a bit and as she reached about 20 feet and started her final landing setup, the rotor collapsed her canopy, she dropped from about 15 feet, bounced off her left hip then her head. She is sore but otherwise fine. We're both glad I was too busy missing the obstacles to see her landing! Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Yup, it looks reel purty out there. I've been juiced, pilled, milked, fruited and pancaked; just gotta finish dz.comming and we'll be heading out to drop off the clothes and groceries, pick up the gear and spend the rest of the day at the DZ. Everyone have fun and stay safe. Ray, hope you get your canopy back today. Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?

Thank you Lisa. On the 31st, it will be two years since we lost Jan Davis (Jan Devil), and I miss her fiercely. It takes a special person to leave such indelible marks on other's lives; it seems Al was one of those special ones

Andrea, TLML and I have attended our 5th, 10th, 20th, 25th and 30th. We had a ball at all of them. Our class was about 165 strong, and at our 30 I think we had about 85 show up. Of course we have it real easy, our high school alumni association is the oldest in Wisconsin and holds their banquet on Memorial Day weekend each year, and each 5-year class holds their reunion immediately thereafter; so no matter where you are, you know when your reunion will be, just not where your class has booked. One call or email to the alumni assoc. clears that up real quick. They also try realy hard to keep track of everone and send out one or two newsletters each year. Guess we're spoiled. Absotively hit that head right on the nail, Richard. Natalie spoke her opinion and her opinion only. She showed disrespect for President Bush, she did NOT trash America and her people. Her apology was also sincere, she stated she didn't care for Mr. Bush's policies, but that she still was wrong in criticizing the President the way she did. In other words, she didn't back off on her opinion or her right to have and state it, but she did apologize not only for her disrespect for the office of the POTUS, but also apologized to Mr. Bush for insulting him in such a public forum.
